Redskins Make Contract Offer to Daniels
Jason Reid reports: The Washington Redskins made a contract offer to veteran defesive lineman Phillip Daniels, who wants to return to the team. i guess he will be back. hopefully they arent paying him anything
Daniels is finished. This is troubling if he gets signed because he will start now that Taylor is gone. His production wasn't too entralling before he suffered the season ending injury last year. I don't really expect him to bounce back and become a factor this year. I hope there is another solution to our DE spot. |
Re: Defensive line arrangement
Waiting for the obligatory "I like Orakpo" comment even though the guy isn't making it out of the top 10 and he is basically a younger Andre Carter.

Re: Defensive line arrangement
If we stay pat with the FA's that we have right now, what line position do you think will be addressed with our first pick in the draft? OT or DE?
For our sake I hope it's OT because we are coming off of a year where our defense ranked 4th in yards overall. Let them deal with deprivation because they are the most suited to handle it. Our 13th pick overall should be OT. Our team is not that deep in depth so we don't have the luxury of being able to pick the best athlete. Our draft choice has to be narrowed down to OT. |

Haha you're so right... we met as well sit around and talk about how good we'll be w/ Curry in the lineup. |

OMG We are getting CURRY OMG WE ARE GOING TO THE SB!!!! cool that was fun. I love watching the draft and seeing what teams are doing. It always is intriguing. |
Re: Defensive line arrangement
I wonder if there will be a Brady Quinn this year... Sanchez could be that guy but I didn't necessarily mean a QB.
... btw I don't think this will happen to A. Smith. |
Re: Defensive line arrangement
I wouldn't be surprised to see some cases of just that, where Haynesworth, Griffin, and Gholston/Montgomery on the line at the same time.
One of the bigger disappointments of last year was Gholston beating out Montgomery in the depth chart, after Monty had a much better year the season before. Clearly we have an issue at one DE spot. Daniels is ancient even though he's going to be paid very modestly. I hope that C Wilson can have a big year. I'd hate for him to wander off to another team and find a niche like Evans, Clemons, and Kalu have done in the past. |

Tyson Jackson would be the perfect fit at DE, if we trade down in the 20's OT Jamon Meredith in the 2nd |
Re: Defensive line arrangement
We need a DE that can get some heat on the QB . If Ac goes down , we will have no pass rush . I know Al H. is an awesome talent , but you can't have 1 DT to get to the QB . Are front 4 could be championship caliber with a DE that teams have to account for, not to mention , it would take some of the pounding of constant dbl teaming of A.H. Hopefully we can also find a T .

There's nobody (available) who fits the bill. Orakpo isn't falling to us and we'd be a bit silly to take a DE w/ our first pick anyway considering our predicament at OT and OLB. Honestly I think Blache might have enough to work w/ after we re-sign Daniels. AC can go all three downs and while we want the most from his pass-rush he's strong enough to play LDE here and there. So downs where we want maximum pass rush ability Carter switches to LDE and Wilson comes in at RDE. |
Re: Defensive line arrangement
When have you seen either one of them collapse the pocket to pressure the quarterback? Yea they can stop the run but they don't do anything on passing downs.
that's also part of the scheme unfortunately, when you play for the run you've given the blocker an advantage on a passing down and don't as quick of a burst |
Re: Defensive line arrangement
Wilson has impressed when he has gotten the chance and its not even that much. He only plays about two snaps a game. But, when he does play those two snaps he does pretty well. I say throw Wilson in there. Make him a starter. Lets see if he's got it or not. Daniels can back him up and rotate in there when Wilson needs a break.

Re: Defensive line arrangement
We need a guy like Daniels to complete the "running down" package. The guy may be ancient, but he can hold his ground and keep contain. I'd put Haynesworth and Montgomery inside and Carter and Daniels on the ends. Last year Montgomery was commanding a double team most of the time (even more than Griffith). You can't double him and Haynesworth and expect to keep Carter off your QB. I'd love to see the blitzing lanes if those two guys can start dominating at the line.
I'd like to hear from Gtripp on who he would rather see next to Haynesworth, Monty or Griff based on the tape he was looking at last year. |
Re: Defensive line arrangement
"Tyson Jackson would be the perfect fit at DE, if we trade down in the 20's
OT Jamon Meredith in the 2nd" I'd have to agree with this statement...since there is alot of depth at OL, DE, & LB in the draft then trade down, pick up the best DE/LB available in the first, pick up the best available OL prospect in the 2nd and draft the best DE/LB prospect in the 3rd (which ever position wasn't picked in the first)! Putting Gholston or Monte on the edge isn't needed if we pick up a younger faster version of Daniels in the draft (Tyson Jackson) and Jamon Meredith is a sleeper in the second. The man is a beast and can compete for the right tackle spot! |
