In the event no one else is keeping tabs, Portis has now averaged a pretty pedestrian 2.6 yards per carry since his scintillating 64-yard scamper the first time he touched the ball in a Redskins uniform. This is a guy who averaged 5.5 yards in two seasons with the Denver offense.
I think I beat this point to death at the ire of you guys here

This aint the AFC West

But I forgot, the West has all those great runners

Yeah I don't know what we're thinking. After two games it's obvious Portis is a flop and Gibbs can't win. Pasta is right.

CrazyCanuck 09-20-2004 05:36 PM

Pasta's a f@$@#n loser. I hope Wilbon doesn't get involved in a spitting match with him.

Amazing how things get misconstrued...I didnt say he would flop

I just said he wouldnt bee as wildly successful as your guys thought...more carries, a lower YPC and lower rushing yards

1375 yards sounds about right..and a lower 4 YPC

Gibbs is gonna wear his arse out

SkinsRock 09-20-2004 06:06 PM

Portis has 217 rushing yards in two games. That translates to over 1700 yards over 16 games. Not saying he'll do it, but the potential for something similar is definitely there...
Speaking of that, as pathetic as our offense has been, both Coles and Gardner have 127 yards, which means both are on a pace to break 1000 yards receiving....

Another thing... In almost any game, you can take away 1 big play, and it changes the whole course of the game, and maybe even the season, not to mention individual stats. Giving stats minus one big play is completely and utterly pointless. F@#$ Lenny P...

Gmanc711 09-20-2004 06:39 PM

I hate this ... well, if you take away the 64 yard run garbage. Fine , lets take out the Adam Venatri Feild Goal in the Superbowl two years ago. Then, lets remove the music city miracle and the immaculate reception from time. You cant take things away, Portis ran 64 yards and you cant take it out and say this is his real average.

I am curious what would happen if Joe Gibbs failed. I know a lot of you follow him like a sheep and refuse to question his, in my opinion, dismal offense. What happens if he fails? Does he get criticized on every level like Spurrier. Or do we let him slip away after 5 years and never speak of it again?

I hope this isn't the case, but thinking hypothetically it could be interesting to watch.

His offense looked horrible. It seems like he get's a TD and feels comfortable with that lead. Granted his players made a lot of mistakes, but we were still in it to the end where I feel the play-calling was questionable. Just my opinion.

MTK 09-20-2004 07:11 PM

Theismann said it took him a year to get the hang of this offense. We're in week 2 of Gibbs' first season back, I'm not at all surprised that the offense is struggling. If this was week 10 I'd be concerned, give it time guys, it will work, and Gibbs will not fail.

There's no comparing Gibbs and Spurrier. Gibbs has won at this level, he's a Hall of Fame coach, he has 3 Super Bowl rings, nuff said.

Daseal 09-20-2004 09:04 PM

Matty, I'm not saying he will fail, but I'm speaking hypothetically. You've proclaimed time and time again that he won't. WHAT IF he does?

SmootSmack 09-20-2004 09:07 PM

Define "fail"

RedskinRat 09-20-2004 09:14 PM

He won't be under .500

Theismann also said it won't be till week 4 or 5 until the offense really starts to gell.

Riggins practically said the same thing, He said the defense will have to carry the offense for the first half of season (which is true so far). It takes time for everyone to get their timing down on Gibbs offense.

F-Pasta Belly. Where was he when Gibbs won all those super bowls? This guy doesn't know $hit about Gibbs.

This guy really sucks. I could eat a box of alphabets and sh*t out a article that is better than that one. What a cheap shot.
