Re: Eagles Acquire Jason Peters

The Iggles traded the 28th pick, the one they acquired when they gave their first rounder to Carolina last year, and additional picks for Peters. Think about it. They could have kept their pick last year and used it on Jeff Otah. They would have been better off player-for-player as well as draft picks.

No, the Iggles don't have a great front office. It's just easy and acceptable to bash the Skins.

Exactly. He already got a new multi-million contract going into last season. But it wasn't good enough because he wanted to be the highest paid player on the Bills' offensive line. That's one of the biggest reasons we got Dockery, because the Bills were trying to back into making him the highest paid. But it didn't work.
Well you articulated what I meant to say.. They were in position to do this because of their draft day trade last year to pick up the extra pick. Peters is a pro bowl tackle on the right side of 30. That's a good move for what they gave up. They also signed arguably one of the best tackles on the FA market to play the other side. They got younger, more athletic and stronger at 2 key OL positions. You could make the argument they overpaid but now they are still sitting on a 1st round pick and one less hole to fill.
I agree. Philly put themselves in position to over pay cause they had the extra #1 from last years draft. I like this move and Philly's FO knows what they're doing.

Good! That means we didn't. Price was way too high!

Does this mean they are aware of a certain Mr. Haynesworth improving or D-Line...hence their apparent desperation to improve their O-Line?

No. They had already let Thomas and Runyan, their starting OT's last year, walk off before we signed AH.

I think the Eagles had to make this move so good for them. However, there are factors which mitigate against such a positive take on this. One is Stacy Andrews' injury history. Another is the $10 mil. that Peters is seeking - that's a big cap hit. Another is the uncertainty about Peters - will he be the beast version of 2007 or the creaky version of 2008 or somewhere in between?

The Bills' O-line sure is taking some hits this offseason.

The thing that worries me is that the Skins may now not get a shot at a decent OT in the draft...perhaps we will finally get a DE after all these years.

I think Jon Runyan is still on the free agent market. The Redskins could not afford to trade for Jason Peters cause we are still catching up from previous years of misused draft picks like .... Jason Taylor 2nd, Brandon Lloyd 3rd, TJ Ducket 3rd, Mark Brunell 2nd. We are always looking for a quick get to the Super Bowl plan instead of using the draft to upgrade the team. If we had 2 first round picks and we were under the cap maybe we could have thought about trading for Peters for a postion of need.

That is quite possible. Depends on what the Bills want to do. An alternative way of looking at it is that Philly no longer might trade up with the Jags to take an OT. It may work out ok.

Re: Eagles Acquire Jason Peters

Actually, I don't see anything wrong with this move. The Eagles have tons of picks to play around with and to give up only a late 1st rounder and a fourth (plus a 6th next year) isn't a lot when you're talking about adding a PRO BOWL LT.
They still have picks to fill holes (Dawkins, RB, LB, DB, and WR...still).
If we had 8 picks and a decent cap situation, I'd have no problem pulling the trigger on a deal like this. Peter's is a NFL ready tackle and will most likely better than any other tackle they could draft at the 28th spot. Yeah they could've drafted Otah last year and kept this year's pick but that's hindsight.
We have four measly picks, so trading two of them doesn't make sense, even for a player of Peters caliber - we have way too many holes to fill. And as far as Peters giving up 11 sacks last year, he might have trouble with the Giants and Cowboys but I'm sure he'll shut us out seeing how we have no real threat to rush the passer.
As much as I hate the Eagles and their fans, I think it was a good move.

Re: Eagles Acquire Jason Peters

Assuming that Peters continues to play at the level he has the last several seasons, this is a fine move. The contract, while large, is money well spent on such an important position. They do as good a job managing the cap as anybody so I don't agree that there is any sort of future risk of cap overload. And the cost in draftpicks is nothing they can't afford either, given the surfeit that they had going into this draft.

So while there is a legitimate risk of Peters not living up to his billing or growing complacent in wealth, these are risks that are manageable, and ultimately worth taking for the chance to secure a young truly elite LT.

A rookie that can be drafted and turned into a Pro Bowler Vs. A current Pro Bowler

Seems like an easy argument, but Peters has shown how much of a headache he can be when he does not get his way. If I were the Eagles, I would have held on to that pick. What sucks for us is now we pretty much know that the Bills are going after an OT and they pick before us. Looks like we will be after a DE or OLB unless we either trade up, or get lucky.

Well the Redskins did have to pounder going after Jason Peters cause we in the pass gave picks away for older vets to fill a need. Thats why we only have 5 picks now. How or why would we try to trade up knowing we would need to give up more picks this year or next. This thinking has put us chasing picks every year. Lets just suck it up and keep our 13th pick or if we get a chance to aquire 2 lower 1st round picks then pull the trigger. More picks doesn't necessary mean better players if you can't evaluate talent. I do believe it does have some luck envolved with drafting the right guys especially in the 5th,6th, and 7th rounds.
