If we get Washington that could spell the end for Thrash. Washington does the same exact things only younger and cheaper. Thrash dropped a good number of passes last year also. I was watching the Eagles and Giants games from last year recently and he dropped big 3rd down throws in both games. Catches that should have been made to convert and move the chains. I know he's a cult hero and all but he's not really a viable option anymore.
I really hope that Thrash doesn't make the team. The fact that he was a starting receiver for us last year was embarrassing.

I actually think Hackett has the better shot to be a contributor in 2009. Not sure how he is on special teams, but the combination of his size and experience with Zorn/WCO sets up a nice hedge in case the struggles continue for Kelly and Thomas. He could turn into a solid possession receiver for us potentially.

Last year around this time I was all for signing Hackett, as were a bunch of folks here.

Thrash has been a solid Redskin special teamer/ great locker room guy (backup #4 WR for spot duty) having him at the #3 WR spot was a failure, I agree.

Thrash is coming of surgery this off season. I do not see him making the team this season in any capacity.
both are nice signings.....Washington will hopefully replace Thrash. Hackett cant really replace Thrash because he doesn't play special teams. He is nice insurance though if we have an injury to the top 4 WR's, esp. with Kelly having another surgery. Even though Hackett can't stay healthy either, at least he can help the youngins learn the system if nothing else....
Washington is also a special teams specialist. two years ago in New England they couldn't stop him on Punts and Kick off returns. He isn't the reciever he was in college but he adds good depth.

D.J. Hackett is a good third down guy and worth a look.
we should trade Moss, get a 2nd or 3rd for him next year, and let all the young and up coming WR, play now, the best way is to find out which one, really wants to be #1
I am so tired of comments like this. There are some people on this board that repeatedly say trade Portis, Moss, ARE, and everybody over 26 on the freaking roster. It's the same as what people say about Snyder, you're treating this like a fantasy team. For some of you I honestly think your dream team would have everybody 25 or younger. It's just plain stupid. That team would lose games and that's what the franchise would learn how to be ... losers. There's a reason why these young guys don't play. They're not ready and they're not good enough and they don't deserve to play in that case because it makes the team worse and hurts the locker room. Guys just don't magically develop from year to year by getting thrown into games. They do it in practice every day and they need veterans to teach them what it takes to be an NFL player every day. You need vetetans to teach you what it takes to win and create a tradition and expectation of winning. And you may not really know what I'm talking about unless you've been on a team where the team where the players have more responsibility than the coach for what happens with the team, so like a high school team doesn't really count since it's not really made of grown men.

Probably a good idea to go six deep in terms of WRs with receiving potential during mini camp. You can always cut down in July/August if need be.

I agree. I would add that there is an easier way of getting the young WR's to play besides trading Moss: Zorn simply says, "Devin, get out there!" No trade necessary.

Why in the world would any skins fan want us to trade Moss? He had a down year last year but he is by FAR the best WR on our roster. If the OL gives JC some time our offense has alot of weapons. Watch Fred Davis this year. Everyone who dogged the pick last year will eat those words.

No DJ Hackett Signing Imminent

The Redskins offered Hackett a contract following his tryout this weekend, and wanted him to join the team starting Monday for the first of 4 OTA sessions this week. Hackett was interested in signing but a personal matter will preclude him from being here this week and so any potential signing is on hold, according to a league source.

The Skins resume OTAs in June and could have a full compliment of receivers back healhty by then. Talks between the team and Hackett could resume at that point - the Skins are only really offering one-year, vet minimum deal at this time, anyway - and the Redskins also expect to hear back from WR Kelley Washington in a week or so, after offering him a deal as well after his tryout. Washington is expected to participate in Baltimore's upcoming mini-camp and make a decision on a new team following that.

I think it would be a great idea to add both of these guys to the roster because you need a good mix of youth and vets. I think I'd rather see Washington stick on the opening day roster just because of his special team ability. The reality of the situation is if we have to count on Hackett or Washington for anything more than to be the 3rd reciever at best then we are probably in trouble.

When Hackett is healthy, he's pretty good #3 receiver.. I don't know much about Washington, but from what I have seen, he might not be that bad..

Regardless of who we sign, both are cheaper and arguably more talented #3's than Thrash. I'd tend to lean towards signing Washington because he can fill the void at Sepcial Teams, and he's more durable than Hackett.
