Just an FYI, we have over 8 mil in cap space.

I do not think an often injured player is someone we should be looking at. He had a season ending injury last year, and we have had enough of that.

All the haters on Jansen...I am one of the few that thinks he might be able to make a solid comeback this year after a year of strengthening and conditioning his injured parts. Jansen was a GREAT tackle until injuries just derailed his career. I think we might be a little shocked how much better he will be. Then again, I could be wrong. Still, want to see if he can regain his form.

I think the exorcist ankle was the nail in the coffin. I hope he comes back strong too but the rumors are that he would be on the street if it wasn't for his cap number.

I am sure I have done it, but how can you put these two points in the same reply. Your logic says we have had enough injured players, so no Levi (ok, I understand that); but Jansen can make a solid comeback since he was a great Tackle(Levi was not shabby either) until injuries derailed him.

Your basic flow then is don't get the oft injured tackle, lets count on the oft injured tackle.

We obviously are doing the Golden Corral of RT's so we might as well have a serving of Levi on our plate if we can sign him appropriately.

Agreed. He costs more to cut than keep, so he'll make the 53 man, but IMO it will be as a backup center/guard.

This is what I meant when I said finding a sutiable stop gap at RT was easier than finding a rush end. Adequate to plus OLmen come around somewhat regularly. it's why i like the Orakpo drafting and wasn't terribly disappointedwe didn't take Oher. A guy like Jones has to be looked at for us. But I don't think he brings a lot more than what we already have. If he costs us a dime more than any of the other guys i say no.

I'd be surprised if he's not on the Skins radar. Vet min only given his injury history.

Well healthy he is automatically an upgrade at RT over last year. health is the issue. If we have Bridges/Jones/Heyer/Williams competing that'd be a hell of a battle in camp. No way we really go into camp with that entire crew. There aren't enough reps to get a good look at any of them.

I really doubt vet min gets him in camp. But he is a proven starter, and worth getting into camp. As much as I love the idea of Mike Williams on the goal line, he hasn't played a down in several years. This guy was a starter, and he faced the Balt/Pitt Defenses regularly. That means something in terms of facing DWare, or Usi, or the rest of the NFC East.

Well this is funny cuz i just posted today on the Bridges thread saying how surprising it is Levi hadn't been cut...

We need to sign him IMO, period. I know it will cost a pretty penny...probably take a good chunk of our cap space left on the year. Right now our RT prospects are mediocre (Jansen/Heyer) to longshot (Bridges/Williams). It's another recipe for disaster along the o-line position. Maybe most importantly we don't have anyone near talented enough to fill the void at LT if Samuels still struggles w/ injury. If the FO is serious about giving JC and the offense an opportunity to be great this year Levi Jones is the man...everything else is sort of half-assing it.

We have zero financial commitment to Williams, Bridges and Heyer, so the fact that theyre here doesnt automatically preclude that we sign Jones. That said, I agree with cobracai that the FO is probably "happy" with the guys they already have competing. Jones is a major injury concern and would cost more all by himself than would Williams, Bridges, and Heyer combined.

At this point, i'm pretty sure Williams or Heyer will be our starting RT and the other one will be a backup. My main fear is that because we can't afford to cut Jansen, we're going to have to put the other Williams (former MD center) on the practice squad where he'll be snatched up by another team. And if Rabach goes down... Jansen plays center. And i dont think any of us want to see that.

Great point, and one of our biggest worries. If Samuels goes down it is going to be a rough year, and he probably will, so if LJ is able to act as a backup that way, it is worth the extra cash to get him in, assuming he passes his physical LOL

We need to get him in at a reasonable price whether it's a vet min or a 1yr deal w/ incentives nothing more. We have leverage on him to sign here, because he's almost 30, injured, and just got cut. He'd be competing against an unproven (Heyer) and oft-injured aging (Jansen), which he can beat out. Here would be my projected starting O-line come Opening Day.

LT Samuels
LG Dockery
C Rabach
RG Thomas
RT L. Jones
Bridges would backup Thomas at RG

Don't know where you're getting that $8 million from. It seems like that's a bit high. I think I saw around $5 million before the draft from another source and if you count Barnes and Orakpo's contracts that would probably take us down to about $2 million. Also if we had $8 million in cap space I'm sure we would be making more moves than just signing people for the vet min.
Anyways I doubt we'll bring him in. Everybody seems okay with the competition between the guys we got now.

I agree w/BigHairArist. & TheGoat, we will have roster issues due to the infeasibility of cutting Jansen & others, and Samuels is at the point of his career where he'll get nicked & slow down.

While it may hurt spec. teams it might be worth it to keep an extra O linemen over an extra LB or WR on the active roster. E. Williams might make it as a guard/center, allowing the team some flexibility there.
