Re: Roethlisberger accused of Sexual Assault
True dat. Why wait a year later and not call the police in the first place? Maybe because there's no evidence to begin with?
I blame her lawyer as much as I blame her. He probably got blinded by dollar signs when he heard Big Ben's name and convinced her to give this a shot. |

Could be. I put most lawyers, (not all), one step above whales**t on the societal contribution list. |

Re: Roethlisberger accused of Sexual Assault
This could be totally made up, it could be totally true, or somewhere in between. Either way, it could be pretty damaging to Big Ben's image:

Re: Roethlisberger accused of Sexual Assault
Not going to do it. I absolutely refuse to click on a PFT link. Shame on you GMScud. JK. I'm seriously not clicking on that link though.

Re: Roethlisberger accused of Sexual Assault
I must say, given how much of a good public image that Big Ben has (and the whole "oh she's out for money" thing) it will be difficult for this woman to have a case. I would call this 99.9% terrible advice from her lawyer.

I know, I know, it's a PFT link. But Florio obtained a copy of the actual filed complaint, and he just goes over the details of it in this link. It's not his usual wild speculation and rumor mongering. |

That's cool, but I am still not clicking on that link. |

Re: Roethlisberger accused of Sexual Assault
That links says that she was in the psych ward because of a relationship that didn't exist. Some crazy nonsense about her sleeping with some other married dude and the wife created some fake soldier, emailing her all of the time. When the wife posing as the soldier stopped emailing, she had to see the shrink. Sounds like a pretty damn crazy woman to me.

Re: Roethlisberger accused of Sexual Assault
In my opinion, it's pretty reckless to automatically conclude this woman is a lying, greedy [expletive]. Is there a chance she is lyign and just trying to get money and/or revenge? Yes. Is there a chance she is telling the truth? Yes.
I've known at least one woman who was sexually assaulted who went back and forth about contacting police. It was a very emotional experience for her and I understand why she didn't immediately go to police. Again, I'm not saying she is telling the truth, I am just saying we shouldn't pass judgment based on an article or two we read in the press. |

But why is she filing a civil suit? Why isn't this dumb loser going to the cops? She just wants money. |

Whereas in criminal court the prosecution must prove guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, in civil trials you usually only have to prove your case by a preponderance of the evidence (i.e., the evidence weighs in your favor). So, a rape victim might very reasonably conclude that she does not want to go through an emotional trial if the prosecution is likely to lose, but she can hit him where it hurts (i.e., the wallet). Again, I don't know her or her motivations. I just don't think people should automatically assume that a woman who claims to have been raped and sues is some greedy whore. Is that unreasonable? |
