I'm glad to hear this, these rookies are not going to produce unless they get play time.
Well let's hope he can stay healthy and this is real attitude change and not just a momentary uptick. With his speed and size he has the physical tools to be a better option than ARE straight away. It is going to take focus and determination for him to channel that into something though so he has to stay at it for good. But early signs are indeed encouraging. This would be a serious boon if it worked out like we think it can.
I read last year that he knew he had alot to learn and was working hard to get up to the NFL speed. I don't think that his attitude changed over night rather then he learned last year he cannot just show up to camp and become a starter from day one.

The title is a little misleading. He's not the starter yet. It's looking like SO FAR he might be on track. I hope he is but he hasn't won a job yet.

Thank you.

The key word is "expect" to start.
Barring injury or regression, they said, expect Thomas to be the starting Z receiver, or flanker, opposite top wideout Santana Moss, the X receiver, or split end.

Dude, no offense but before you tell me to learn to read, please look up the word "expect" and see if that means the same as "sure thing."

Alright peeps, no offense but let's not get caught up in technicalities. There's a reason why we drafted these guys last year. Given the offseason they had as rookies, I can see why they didn't see the field that much. That said, if they've grown up and the coaching staff is seeing something in them, then let DT start. Get him experienced, throw him to the fire, and let him earn his paycheck. I'm glad this is happening, because now it is time for these guys to put up or shut up, and what better way than giving them playing time.

Re: Devin Thomas to Start Opposite Santana Moss

This, of course, is inevitable since our primary set is 3 WRs, and Randle El is more valuable in the slot...James Thrash isn't exactly the frontrunner at Z anymore.

It's either Thomas or Kelly, and unless both fail so obviously, no one is really in the discussion besides them.

No big surprise, the talk all offseason regarding DT has been positive and has only continued into training camp.

Good to hear how he's changed his approach and seems to be "getting it" as far as what it takes to be a good player in this league.

Lets face it , if we cant run , our passing game will suffer . If we run the ball , give JC time , our WR's should be fine . Looks like Heyer and Rinehart have worked well together today , as well as M Kelly making some more nice grabs .....Training Camp Practice Report: Aug. 3 .
]??? Didn't you just re-iterate what Lotus said. He has not been named the #2, but that is the expectation that he will, or put another way, he is on track to be named it.

Whatever, if it is based on performance than that IS a good sign.
You have a better chance when you are expected to start as oppose to being on track to start :)

Re: Devin Thomas to Start Opposite Santana Moss

This is encouraging news no doubt but it should be expected IMO. Thomas has sick physical ability and talent and he was a potential 1st rounder who fell into our lap. The expectation throughout the franchise and fanbase should be that Devin starts and is a legit threat opposite Tana.

And...if Devin is legit the offense has a chance to effing fly this year Skins fans. I'm still real pessimistic about Kelly, the next guy I want to hear about is Davis cuz that opens things up even more.

Man things are getting really exciting...

Either way, good news because we all know ARE is more of a slot guy anyways. Id like to see Kelly step up also but at this point one of the other youngsters may pass him up.
