Re: Poll: Which of your pre-camp concerns has been most resolved?
I agree. The O-line really concerns me. 3 of the 5 are getting up there in age, the RT is unproven, a few are coming off surgeries, and they are injury prone.
Zorn even admitted he pulled back the reins on the offense last year because he was scared for Jason's life (not a direct quote, but you get it) as a result of the banged up line. If these guys can't stay healthy, we're in deep ish.
The only thing that bothers me about this line of thinking is that you can sometimes get the opposing defense to pull back on a fierce rush by throwing it deep once in awhile. And there are still methods to get the ball downfield when your O-line is hurting by doing roll-outs. Oh well. Zorn seems to be reinvigorated and clearly is attempting to get big chunks of yards through the air at this point. That's a good thing. But since it's virtually impossible to keep our front five completely healthy for 16 games, you just wonder if we'll be in the same position come November or December. |
Re: Poll: Which of your pre-camp concerns has been most resolved?
The WR problem appears to be resolved except with the ranking outisde of Moss. I would go at thise point with: Moss #1 Kelly#2 Mitchell#3 Thomas#4 ARE#5.

Antwaan Randle El #5? That's a little harsh. I think the young receivers are looking better but I'm not convinced they are ready to go up against the NFC East. Here is my ranking of the receivers: 1. Santana Moss 2. Marques Mitchell 3. Antwaan Randle El 4. Devin Thomas 5. Malcolm Kelly (Could be #2 if he knew how to run a fade route) |

2. Marko Mitchell

Re: Poll: Which of your pre-camp concerns has been most resolved?
It sounds counterintuitive, but I went w/o line depth, since the question is "most resolved" so the question is relative. By depth, I assume 2nd stringers, and those guys seem like legit 2nd team guys; bridges, montgomery, rinehart. As a unit they might not be that good, but I think each one of them will be fine filling in w/the starters if needed.
That said, O line is still the biggest question facing this team. They've improved the line relatively, but I don't know how good the starters can be. I expect them to have serious problems on 9/13 & in a handful of games JC will be scrambling for his life. |
I think we're all pretty universal in saying that Heyer has the RT job sewn up but is everyone comfortable with him for 16 games?
I had faith in Heyer @ RT from the start, and i think he provides good depth for Samuels@ LT.
It's been tough to gauge the OL depth because M. Williams has been injured most of camp causing Bridges to play out of position and not really giving us a true look at players in their true positions.
The depth is more of a concern. Rhinehart has played as much with the starting OL as Randy Thomas. And i think has shown that he can contribute at RG/LG. Heyer can play at LT, Will Montgomery has looked good at Center. Mike Williams has been hurt and Bridges has looked spotty, although to be fair he has played out of position. Depth at RT and G are a concern.
We've seen bad Jason (1-7, 4 completions in 2 games) and good Jason (overall vs. NE) so far in the preseason. How's your comfort level with him?
I think JC is gonna have a good season. How good is up to OL, WRs and playcalling.
I for one have been impressed with what I've seen out of Thomas & Kelly and with the addition of Mitchell I am good with our WR corps going into the season. For the first time in YEARS I am actually excited about our group.
Devin and Malcolm are the X factors this year. Their contribution and playmaking will determine how explosive the offense can become. |
Re: Poll: Which of your pre-camp concerns has been most resolved?
Went with WR in large part due to what I've seen from Devin Thomas. He put on some muscles, seems faster and his rout running has improved a lot from last year. Kelly has improved but I'm still not sold he has it all down and together yet. I feel comfortable with Fred Davis' development too. He's going to take a lot of pressure off of Cooley from the looks of it. Two TE sets will really be fearsome in our offense.

My concerns will not be resolved until half way through the season.

The offensive line might be stronger than I thought it would be at the beginning of the preseason.
