Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
also from the article:
* He seemed highly skeptical of the prospect of keeping six wideouts. "I wouldn't think that," he said. "Right now I would say I don't think we would end up with six, just because we have a lot of other things. What you want to do is keep your 25 best players that give you a chance to win on Sundays. And the thing with the guys that are gonna be say the 23rd, 24th, 25th guys on offense or defense, they've got to be outstanding on special teams. And that's gonna be the thing. Those guys that are the 5th receiver, the 4th, 5th running back, they all have to be able to help on special teams."
That seems to be a strong statement. And one that doesn't help Mason's case, and almost seems like Marko is #4 and DT is fighting for # 5 with his ST play. Saturday will be interesting. |
For one of the few times I agree with Vinny. I want Alridge on this team badly. He is the type of change of pace back they need. Betts is just a less talented version of Portis in my mind. Alridge can really bring something we don't have I think.
I agree. If it's speed they want, Alridge is the man. I really think he could be a great addition to this offense. Hopefully he can stay healthy. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
I too am high on Alridge. We need that 'take it to the house' speed and only Anthony (possibly Dorsey as well) has that out of the 5 tailbacks we have.

Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
From what we have seen from the guys that VC has drafted over the last couple of years at WR I don't think Marshall is at all a need for this team. We have got some good WR at this point.

Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Rock counts as ST.

Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Ok, you are probably right. if the 5 includes Sellers, which it would have to, then I would think, given the critical comments on Mason's special teams play and lack of blocking, that Aldridge may very well have won a job. Vinny also said there are12 spots up for grabs. Maybe the Aldridge/Mason battle is on Thursday night.

Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
I like Alridge. But Dorsey has a lot of speed, too, and is healthier.

Rock plays ST, but for the 53 count, ST gets 3 spots: Kicker Punter LongSnapper The return men have to actually fit other spots on the roster, that is if you go with Vinny's 25/25/3 split. |

I prefer Alridge but I could live with Dorsey also. As long as they don't pick Mason. I am just not as high on Mason as a lot of skins fans are. He has floated around for a couple years now gaining a lot of yards against backup and non NFL players. I see him as more of a pure backup to Portis/Betts and not a change of pace RB. |

I think Alridge has to fight the injury question, but we kept MK on all last year. I really hope they keep one of the 2, and of course, I hope it is the "right" one. |

Health is the biggest question. Hey, I just realized your username-instead of repping your fandom of MW-can rep your fandom of the 53 man roster |

Mason doesn't add any value. He runs with decisiveness and decent elusiveness, but not moreso than Portis and Betts. He's not faster than Portis or Betts, he's not more powerful than Portis or Betts, he can't run block like Sellers, he's not a better pass protector than Portis or Betts, he's not a better receiver than Portis or Betts, and he's not a better special teamer than Rock is. He adds nothing to your roster. Decent player but that's why he has no shot. Alridge at least can offer a major upgrade in terms of breakaway speed over Portis and Betts. Portis Betts Sellers Rock and if there's a 5th: Alridge |

Yeah, I don't really get why so many people don't think Mason is worth a roster spot. A lot of people use the "he's playing against 2nd and 3rd string guys" argument, and yet a lot of those same people are in love with Marko Mitchell. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Dorsey, but very unlikely. My assumption is you are looking at Portis, Betts, Cartwright, Mason, and Aldridge. 5 running backs seem alot to me, especially if Mason does not play special teams.
I think "running back" in the sense that Vinny used, includes Sellers. So he's one of the four/five.
