I wouldn't say Portis is a team cancer at all...I would say though that he reportedly doesn't really speak to any of his teammates but Moss. He basically just keeps to himself. He's not a team leader but I don't know about team cancer.
In my opinion, in being what he is, he should at least put forth some effort into trying to seem like he cares. Maybe he was the un-named party in that D-Hall interview.

I think maybe him keeping to himself has sent a message that if the vets on this team aren't that into it, why should we be? It's a Raiders' attitude.
Yeah but they know how to draft players. We do not.
We're not terrible at drafting players, but our overall personnel management is pretty weak when compared to the NYG. Plus Coughlin is a lot more experienced and hard-nosed than Zorn.

Maybe Portis should have gotten in Sellers face and told him to step it up rather than go behind his back to a coach and ask for his benching. Regardless, Sellers has been a disappointment for sure thus far. He got his Pro-Bowl and his extension. Maybe he's taking his foot off the gas so to speak. I hope not.

Good point.

Why is it always Portis who seems to be at the center of most of the player/locker room contorversy? If it's not one thing it's another. From his remarks about Mike Vick to his deal with Brian Mitchell, and now Mike Sellers. There's going to be an end to this I hope.

Definitely agree. That's what he should have done. Team leader would do that. I mean all around the league you see guys getting right in teammates' faces, and they are more respected because of it.

Things will change when we draft Jonathan Dwyer

I forgot to even mention spats with Jim Zorn as well as John Riggins. He's really going to leave a ton of friends behind when he does leave town.

Yup. But Portis is more of a diva and a mouth than a leader or a tough guy. I don't ever remember seeing him fired up on the sideline or trying to pump up his teammates. And not every player has to be that guy, but coaches and management have asked him more than once to take a leadership role, and he hasn't answered the call. That's disappointing. Sure, he stuck around DC and worked out at Redskins Park in the offseason, but changing your weight-lifting venue doesn't make you a leader.

If this team wants to start winning we can't be having all these distractions going on, like this, hiring sherman lewis, greg blache not wanting to talk to the media, players not coming together or being on the same page, firing zorn talk...we're just a circus of diaster right now.

Portis blows....not
He's definitely lost a step it seems but that could just be a product of pretty bad run blocking...

I agree Portis should have gone to Sellers in person , but CP would have likely got his ass kicked if he had gotten in Sellers " face " .... just saying . Not a big deal IMO , when you're not winning people get angry and vent through talking .

Same thing that I'm thinking. They're supposed to be core Redskin guys. They're supposed to hold the team together during times like these; not fight each other! This sucks!

It's funny that Portis is mad about Sellers not getting a block. Yoder missed a block too. They both left points on the field.

Here is what Portis said originally about that 4th down play

I'm not sure I would put Strahan in that category. Certainly, he had problems with Coughlin, but he was, unlike the other two, on the field when the Giants won the Super Bowl.

If we all recall, the bickering on the Giants, and the very poor atmosphere in the locker room, reached a fever pitch after week 2 of 2007, and some reasonably believed that a loss against the Redskins in week 3 would spell the end for Coughlin. After that unfortunate comeback of theirs, the bickering lessened significantly, and they actually began--Strahan and Coughlin included--to form a pretty decent bond as the season went on, leading all the way up to the Super Bowl victory.

Yes, I agree that spats between players are common, but that doesn't mean they are necessarily good things. Winning is always the best cure, but if the team loses against one of their winless opponents, and struggles even more when the competition becomes a little more fierce, I think this spat demonstrates that things could get ugly.
