Re: F. . . The NFL draft.
No draft when the CBA expires? I haven't heard of that, you have a link?
I believe the earliest there would be no draft is 2012 |
Re: F. . . The NFL draft.
i also would prefer the draft to occur on the weekend, i cant get all boozed up on a thursday evening, with work to follow that friday! as others have already said, after a season like this, draft day is one of the highlights for me.
on a more productive note, i wonder if this will change the way teams draft. with this three day scenario, they will have much more time to evaluate their boards, etc. what do you all think? |
Re: F. . . The NFL draft.
Over the past few years I have found myself watching the draft less and less, mainly because on a Saturday afternoon I can find a million other things to do vs. watching TV. However on a Thurs. or Fri night, that's prime TV time. I'll watch even more with this new setup.
Same here....its called "primetime" for a reason. Im cised for the change. |
Re: F. . . The NFL draft.
SmootSmack -- Missed your posting earlier. What prompted the thread was TMC and myself deciding we should get together and watch the draft on Saturday...

Re: F. . . The NFL draft.
I'll probably get to see more of it since it's on a Thursday night instead of a weekend. It's fine with me.

Re: F. . . The NFL draft.
What's the point of a Redskins fan watching the draft? You know Vinny & Danny are going to pick WRs, TE, and QBS.
|
Re: F. . . The NFL draft.
Exactly, the nfl & espn know the ratings are high enough that it can compete on prime time tv, and generate more viewers than on a saturday for reasons which you note above.
Thank the NFL for this move |

So in that case would all college players essentially become free agents - able to sign with any team they liked? would there even be limits on how many years of college a player had play before becoming eligible to play in the NFL? No draft sounds like complete and utter chaos to me. |

I must say last year's draft was very exciting - trading down and picking up 3 2nd round picks. it was like a fans dream come true.... then we picked all WRs and TEs. |

You were watching less because we had no picks. :) |

I don't know about eligibility but it would basically be like free agency. Teams would just bid and outbid on college players |

Add that to this years and you'll see what I'm talking about. I don't see any OTs or Gs that are worth a damn? |
Re: F. . . The NFL draft.
I'm going to miss laying around on Sunday watching the "nobodies" get drafted. On a positive note, at least I don't need to wake up early but personally if they want to move the first round to primetime then they should move the second round with it.

Re: F. . . The NFL draft.
I'll definitely watch more since its on A Thursday night. I watched a lot of the draft last year, since it was on my wedding day. My groomsmen and I were enjoying it. But that really is one of the few times I have actually watched it. I normally tune in for our pick and I'm done.

Wait what? How did you manage to watch it on your wedding day? Did the minister/priest/rabbi/secular ceremony coordinator announce the picks? "Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of man and woman in holy matrimony. And with the 7th pick in the NFL draft the Raiders select Darrius Heyward-Bey, wide reciever, Maryland." |
