if we are financially tied to him regardless if he is with us or not, i think we may as well keep him. his legs will be fairly fresh compared to past seasons, and he is still our best option, or one of them.
PA-LEASE

1- This year is uncapped. If we are to get rid of the "Mortgaging Our Future" thought process Cerrato brought with him then now is the time to do it. I'd rather we payed him off and let him go. Why keep an injury prone, lazy ass RB on the squad when you have Shanahan who can just about make any RB a star with his system at a cheeper price? Who would be younger and healthier.

2- His legs may be fresh but what about his foot? Plus he's more easily prone for concussions now that he's already had one.

3- As I stated before, In Shanahans system he can turn a 7th round RB into a star.

4- At this point Portis, Betts, and Rock all need to go since they are 30 or close to it. We need younger healthier RB's. Ganther has proven to be a similar style of back as the others so I'd keep him and see what Shanahan can do with him. We picked up Alridge again most likely cause Shanahan loves him. Maybe pick a RB up in later rounds.

I won't be surprised to see him back, but it would definitely be under Shanahan's terms as far as him practicing regularly and being in top condition.
Am I right in saying that if he was cut during the uncapped year we'd be clear so to speak (and by that Snyder would payout his entire SB during that year but it would clear off the books and not cost against the cap in future years)?

If that's the case, cut Randle El, Randy Thomas, Smoot, Collins, Betts and Portis.

Do we have to pay Samuels if he retires?
More likely than not we will enter the 2010 season as an un-capped year. It is also likely there won't ever be a salry capp again in the future, so in Portis's case it's six in one hand and a half dozen in the other. His contract has no capp ramifications because there won't be one.

Not really excited about any of our RB's...Portis included...that's a hole that can't really be addressed this draft as we have MANY other needs.

Portis is garbage. He's washed up. I dont know why some people still give him so much of a break...he has done everything in his power to implode the team, alienate his fellow players, and just generally be a nuisance.

Mark my words, there is absolutley no way that Portis agrees to Shanahan's terms. He is a guy who does not like to practice, work out, or attend any kind of extra meetings. He's a flabby slob on the field. Horrible conditioning. He is a gutless snake who talks crap about people behind their backs, because he's too much of a chicken shit to confront them, obviously because he knows his punk ass would get beat down.

Look at what he did to Sellars, and Jason Campbell. Both of that stuff was behind their back. A guy like him will never change his stripes. And if he stays here, somebody is eventually going to give him what he has coming to him....
i don't think allen or shanny care what snyder says about portis. whether portis stays or goes will not be snyders decission.
Even Mr. Snyder has come to the realization that Portis's incendiary behavior has alienated many throughout the Redskins community. The antics he has put on display are not condusive to team building, he's going to have to change some things in order to remain a Redskin and I honestly don't think he can do it.

What Problem with Portis?

I really don't get where you guys are getting your stats and ideas. This season, he went out with a cuncussion, but nobody who came in after him had similar stats. LAST season, he began the season with a half decent line and was at a 1800yard season pace, once we lost the best of our line, he STILL managed to get 1400 yards. Now, I personally don't consider getting 1400 with a crappy line as "Losing a step" when at his best, he only ended his highest season with 100 more yards.

Also, when he "Threw his teamates under the bus" he was only telling the truth! When starting back at our own 2 or 3 yardline our coach Zorn, moronicaly, called a slow developing sweep to the right. Sellars was CP's blocker and both of them were in the endzone. Sellars had two choices of people to block. He blocked the wrong one and Portis was saftied. He had nowhere to go and the rest of the line provided no support. His only chance at avoiding a safety would be Sellars making the right block. Sellars made similar blocking errors all game and CP was the one being punished, beat up, and battered because of them. If this was the only game that sellars showed his skills deminishing, then i'd say, "Bad Portis"... but he cost us several games. He also ended what could've been Cambells first big game win against the then undefeated saints by fumbling to end the drive in overtime.
