Re: Congratulations to Gregg Williams
And to think that we(the redskins former/current front office) thought that Jim Zorn would be a better Head Coach than Gregg Williams. I'm glad for him Prioleau and Brunell, as well as Sharper, Vilma, Brees, Will Smith, Colston, Jahri Evans, and all the other good vets/former good vets who didn't have a ring before.
Well this still doesn't really mean Williams would have been the right choice for head coach, some people are just better suited to be great coordinators. Either way, good for him. |
Re: Congratulations to Gregg Williams
I think GW deserves another shot at HC somewhere. I don't know how you could say he doesn't deserve another shot. Many, many coaches get 2nd shots.
The guy is hardcore and his players love him. His defenses are generrally very good no matter how much talent he's got. |

Re: Congratulations to Gregg Williams
I think what it comes down to is Snyder/Vinny felt that Zorn would be a coach that could be steered and manipulated, or at the very least a coach that wasn't going to tell them where to shove their advice.
Double-G was definitely neither of those options. :)
Snyder never wanted a coach that would push back - that wouldn't have been any fun. It will be interesting to see how the FO operates during free agency and the draft. It will go a long way toward predicting our future success. If Snyder is doing much of the FA wooing as opposed to Allen/Shanahan, then I think that would indicate that Snyder's fingers are still all over the FO, a very bad thing. |
Re: Congratulations to Gregg Williams
^^ Wow. From congrats to Gregg Williams to bash Dan Snyder in one easy lesson. Snyder wants, and has always wanted, a winning coach. "Push back"? Shanahan won't push back, he'll simply run the show and, if DS tries to push, Shannie will pull a Marty. Regardless, don't we have a bunch of "I hate DS" threads already running?
Kudos to Gregg, Brunell and Zimmer. Good guys all. |
Re: Congratulations to Gregg Williams
I was rooting for the Colts, but seeing Gregg and even Brunell win is great.
*Technically Chase Daniel never made the team. |

Eh, sorry to be Debbie Downer but I don't get the Grilliams love.. I mean I am happy for the Saints and the region that they won but let's not act like we were doing the same things (10 defensive TD, leading the league in turnovers) when he was here. Not to diminish his accomplishments but I don't understand the longing and affection for a guy who was up and down in his tenure here.
Great post Skinny!!! I've wondering since yesterday what Gregg's next move will be. Personally I think he should stay in NO another year or two and wait for a great opportunity to become HC somewhere w/ a good offensive scheme.
And like Tripp said w/ Williams the Saints are a perennial SB contender. The dude needs to watch is caloric intake closer but NO is a great fit.
During the Super Bowl pre-game, I heard that Drew Brees played a big part in GW's decision to go to NO. He knew he was a good offense away from having a legit chance at a ring. I've always liked GW, and I'm happy he's got his ring. |

i said the same thing in another thread, i could really care less either way if he got his ring or not he isn't with us anymore so go screw. the only type of guy i would be happy for is a chris samuels type a guy who kicked ass for us day in and day out for his whole career but never got a ring, if he were to be a coach on a team and get a ring i would be genuinely happy for him, but g williams ahh whatever |

So I suppose you'd think the same about Sean Taylor...he isn't with us anymore so go screw??? Williams was pretty beat up about the whole tragedy two years ago so to see him come from those extreme depths to the high of Super Bowl Champion is great for him and I'm glad to see it. He went as far as taking upon himself to honor Taylor with a ten man alignment to start the Buffalo game. I have no problem saluting a move that like and also no problem saluting this personal achievement from adversity. It also must be moving for him to see Sharper have such a standout season under his tutelage. Williams has come a long way and if that is something you can't respect or reflect upon then let me be the first to tell you...go screw. |

Williams defense here in DC was one of the few things that ran consistently well. Our offense and Special Teams was more the problem during Gibbs II. Greg Williams is a highly respected defensive coordinator in the NFL and his defense was not the problem.. Sean Payton did not take $250k pay cut to get Williams for nothing. Another reason why some Redskins fans like Williams is he was basically shown the door here after his interview with Ceratto and Snyder. I as many of the Redskins wanted Williams and the remaining Gibbs coaching staff to take over for Gibbs... not bring in Zorn and his staff. |
Re: Congratulations to Gregg Williams
I thought it was funny to hear Tom Jackson talk about how the Saints took the long ball away from the Colts by playing the safety 20-25 yards off the line. He said he'd never seen a safety play that far back before. I guess he didn't see how Williams played Sean Taylor when he was here.
