Yeah, Peter King listed us, detroit, and san diego as possible places for him if he didn't re-sign

Re: LT for Portis?
I have a few straight up deals that popped through my head:

Ladian Tomlinson for Clinton Portis?

Brandon Marshall and Chris Kuper for Santana Moss and Carlos Rogers (throw in Randel El if we have to)?

Kerry Rhodes for LaRon Landry?

Do you think any of these will happen or should happen?
LT for CP: Will it happen? No. Would I take the deal if the Chargers made the offer? You bet I would...

Marshall and Kuper for Moss and Rogers: Will it happen? No. Would I take the deal if the Broncos made the offer? You bet I would... And if the Broncos would also take ARE off the Skins' hands, I'd send the team and the coaching staffs several cold kegs of beer to celebrate the end of a long day of training camp next summer.

Rhodes for Landry: Will it happen? Highly unlikely. Would I take the deal if the Jets made the offer? Probably - - unless Haslett is commited to putting Landry back at SS in his new defense. In that case I would turn down the offer.

Maybe, but they do want him back.

Very few UFAs that are attractive candidates are going to be available for teams (i.e. Dansby). All the good ones will likely be tagged by their teams (i.e. 49ers' Franklin, Pats' Wilfork).

LT for Portis! YAY!! Wait, now or 3 years ago?

This is hilarious! I don't know what you guys are smokin. LT has more 'mileage' on him than CP, is older, and is consistantly dead when the playoffs come around. I mean, if CP is no spring chicken, LT probably owes Moses from a card game. I'm just sayin, asside from Portis' mouth, every issue against CP can be used against LT. By RB standards they are both old (LT is older), Both have mutiple seasons of 300+ carries (LT has more), they both are injury prone (LT is less likely to play through), both have ran, caught, and thrown TD passes, and both cost a nice chunk of change and are worth every dime IF HEALTHY. LT has superior stats in almost every category... keep in mind that he had the benifit of being in a great offense, better QB, better o-line, and better HBs to share his load. On the other side.

2 or 3 years ago, i probably wouldn't complain about this idea, but i would rather have an unproven young back we may build on, than a proven older back that probably can help us get a playoff berth, but won't play in them.

That beef was squashed when Moses pulled a gun on him in the locker room thousands of years ago.

My favorite part of this thread is when the OP asks "do you think any of these will happen...?"

I agree with this fully, and this same logic is why CP should not be the primary back next season for us. If the team made the playoffs somehow next year, CP would likely be too hurt/banged up, to have a serious role in them....

this thread is a case of the grass is greener on the other side. I'd like to see what our players can do when they are coached up here, not somewhere else.

Not smoking anything at this end. LaDanian Tomlinson has always been a better RB than Clinton Portis - - and even in these sutumn days of their careers, he is still better. Neither is a feature back anymore who will carry the ball 300 times in a season; nevertheless, LT is better.

Oh, and one more thing. LT is not a pain-in-the-ass diva who causes locker room problems.

The question was whether or not you would make the even up trade of Portis for Tomlinson. If I am the Redskins, my answer is "You Betcha!!"

I'm not gonna go as far as to say that CP is better than LT. But i WILL say that it is an unfair comparison. LT was in a FAR better offense. It's like saying Emmit Smith was better than Barry Sanders. Looking back at stats alone, yeah, Emmit broke records, but don't ignore his insane o-line and HOF teamates. Any of Barry's teamates in the HOF!? Heck no! If Emmit was a Lion, he woundn't have lasted more than 3 seasons. If Barry was a Cowboy, (i would've wet my pants twice a year) and he would've gotten back to back 2,500 yard seasons. If Portis was a Charger, he may not have had the exact same SEASON stats, but he definalty would have more post season stats being that LT is always warming a bench in the layoffs. LT can make a great offense even better, but Portis can give a bad offense a fighting chance.

Re: LT for Portis?

Portis for LT, no way. Nothing against CP and LT, but why trade age and mileage for age and mileage? LT has had a stellar career. But unfortunately "what you have done" is way different then "what can you do for the length of that new contract". Thats all that matters to GM's. LT was great, but will he still produce for 4 to 6 more years, which might be the length of a contract.

And I do not wish Brandon Marshall on anyone. He's got skills, but what a major league pain in the butt he is. Not worth the trouble as they are finding out in Denver.

You can throw that old cliche "change of scenery" or "fresh new start" around all you want. But dip a turd in solid gold, and at the end of the day it is still a turd.
