Well they can do that and sign Chester Taylor. Of course this depends on what they want to do with Cartwright, Ganther, and Betts.

Re: Chester Taylor anyone?

I wouldn't mind Chester Taylor on a short deal. He has been used sparringly so probably has a good amount left in the tank. Shanahan has also gone the veteran route on RB's before so it would not be out of character for them to target Taylor. I would prefer a draft pick RB over a free agent but with only like 5 picks most holes are going to need to be filled with free agents.

That's kind of my thinking too. Younger guys like LenDale White, Ronnie Brown, Laurence Maroney, and Jerious Norwood are going to likely be available and probably worth more of a look.

Why not check him out? Don't know what Betts will bring this year, if we're going to move Betts or Portis then I think that Taylor should definitely be brought in. I'd take Taylor over Betts no doubt. However I wouldn't make him my primary target in FA for RB.

I would like to check out Laurence Maroney...he seemed to get in the Belicheck doghouse imediately and never got out. They spread carries out so much that he was barely used it seems. He could have a lot of gas left in the tank. When he finally got a chance because of injuries this year he ran pretty well...but he also had some fumble issues. I love his upside though based on what we could probably sign him for.

I think all these guys except Maroney are going to be RFAs though? It'd be great if they aren't tendered, but I would imagine someone like Ronnie Brown to be tendered or even re-signed to a longer deal with Miami.

I'd be happy with any of these guys, but as long as they don't cost us picks.

Reggie Bush Anyone?

Is Jerry interested in Bush?

Reggie Bush | Saints | Interested: Cowboys?, Redskins?, Lions?, Titans?, Seahawks?, 49ers? Top Email

Options for Saints
Try to re-work Reggie's deal -- possibly by tacking additional years onto it -- thereby lessening the hit in 2010.
Find a trade partner, although would anyone give up a worthy package in exchange for Bush at his currently-promised salary?
Pay that man his money.
Source: Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune
The Reggie Bush scenario continues to be captivating. It would appear that Bush is more valuable to Sean Payton and the Saints than he would be for some other teams; on the other hand, is he really worth his full-contracted rate of $8 million for 2010?Peter King has opined that the team will pay him his full $8 million instead of running the risk of losing him.

If Bush somehow hits the market, the teams that could go after him include the Seahawks, 49ers, Titans and Lions. What about a trade? Some teams might scoff at the $8 million contracted salary, but the NFL's version of the Red Sox and Yankees would not. Based on owner Daniel Snyder's free-spending habits, we would be remiss to not include the Redskins in this trade group, and although he doesn't spend to the same degree as Snyder, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has proven to be a man that won't shy away based solely on a player's salary demands. Both teams could use the massive upgrade in the return game, and the Skins would appreciate the help in the backfield.

As for the Seahawks, NFC West blogger Mike Sando doesn't think Bush's lofty price tag will keep them away:

ZOMG Oh no's not a playmaker for the Cowboys. How will we ever stop his east west running style!!!?!?!??

Main difference is that Betts is coming off MAJOR knee surgery and Taylor is not...

Re: Chester Taylor anyone?
I wouldn't be against going after Taylor. Betts is probably done here coming off major knee surgery and Portis isn't a workhorse #1 anymore. At the very least Taylor would be a nice addition to compliment Portis and be the 3rd down back.
I agree, I put my bid in for Taylor in the LT for Portis thread. If we decide to keep Portis and he's committed to doing the right thing, he and Taylor together could prove to be a formidable short term combination. It would not prove to be the ultimate solution at RB, and we could look to get a younger RB somewhere in the draft.

Chester + Clinton (part-time role) would be a great combo.

Re: Chester Taylor anyone?

Chester Taylor has always been a complementary back, he has very very low mileage on him, where as Betts has started a lot more than Taylor, and has had more injuries (knee) than taylor.

I'd take Taylor, but not over spend something like a 3 year $10 million deal

Portis, Alridge and a drafted or undrafted Rookie as a three headed monster! HAIL!

Good point on Betts coming off major surgery, and Taylor not. I retract my earlier statement that Taylor isn't a better option than Betts

It would be a nice 3 headed monster Portis, Aldridge & Taylor.
