Re: Federal Judge: Enough With the Stupid Names
What's sad is how many people have commented on that site, taking it as a serious news item.

Re: Federal Judge: Enough With the Stupid Names
Okay - true story.
My wife used to work in staffing and had many of these types of names come across her desk on job applications. A woman of African-American descent hands her an application with the first name "C'mon". My wife, a middle class caucasian woman - looked at the applicant quizzically and said (pronouncing the name in accordance with accepted english phonetics) "uhhh, 'Come on'?" .... The woman heaves a heavy, aggrieved sigh (complete with eye-roll and neck movement) and with LARGE amounts of attitude looks at her and says "simone". As a friend of ours says: Sorry - those letters in that order DO NOT make those sounds. |

I know it's not real. A federal judge can't tell you what to name your children. |

Some of these names really are pretty ridiculous sometimes. I called a restaurant the other day to make a reservation, and the woman who answered the phone said "thank you for calling ___, this is Ikea, how may I help you?" IKEA?? Why would her parents do that to her? |
