I'll be getting Halo 2 for Xmas. We also have Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords coming out the first week of December

oh yeah, KOTOR was pretty good... even if it was ungodly easy....
I don't have XBOX yet, but I was going through the game store the other day and noticed that the price for 'Knights of the Old Republic' had gone down considerably. If there's a big price drop in a game just a few months after its release, does that mean the game is bad or didn't do very well? I noticed the same thing for the 'Terminator' games for PS2.

That Guy, can't you adjust the difficulty level?

One more thing, did you guys play 'Jedi Academy' ? How was that? So far, my favorite Star Wars game was 'Bounty Hunter' for PS2 -- I hope there's a sequel for that one.

That Guy 11-18-2004 10:15 AM

beem, you can adjust the difficulty, but its D&D based rules, so if you know what you're doing you can do serious damage... its a good game, there are a couple endings... i liked it. (btw, the PC version has a shop that spawns some insane items in it... making the PC version much easier than the xbox version).

Beemnseven, the first Knights Of The Old Republic has been out for more than a year, so that's why it's price has dropped

Wow. I didn't realize it had been that long. Looks like I'll have to ask Santa for an XBox, since it doesn't appear PS2 will carry any of those games.

Do you prefer XBox over PS2? It looks like every game you can play on PS2 is available on XBox, but not every game on XBox is available on PS2 -- like Halo, and a few other Star Wars games.

Plus, PS3 is supposedly coming out next year. You just can't win can you?

That Guy 11-18-2004 04:02 PM

no, you never win ;)... if you're big into online play, the X-Box is the way to go... the rpg titles aren't close to what ps2 has, but X-Box has some killer exclusives like halo, mech assault, etc...

I don't have a PS2 (my brother does). I just don't care for a lot of the games that are out on the PS2, not really into those Japanese style RPGs and stuff. While the PS2 does have more games, I just prefer the types that are available on the Xbox. It really depends on what type of games you like. Although to be honest, I'm more of a PC Gamer. Some types are better suited for the PC, while others are better suited for consoles

The only way to win is to buy multiple systems.

I've got the gamecube and the PS2. I'd love to get the xbox for halo, but I can't justify getting another system for 1 game.

I hear ya, Matty. But Halo is soooo freakin good, plus, my cousin has it, and now my brother got it as an early Christmas present. Eventually, when I get high speed internet access, I'll have XBox too so I can join in on the fun. To me, that would be worth getting a new system by itself. And, there's Knights of the Old Republic I and II that's not available on PS2.

I've recently come to the realization that I'm officially a Star Wars gaming dork.

But hey, at least I'm not in denial, right? :embarrass

Knights of the Old Republic is really that good huh?

Another thing that's holding me back from getting another system is the new generation systems are due out in late '05 and early '06, at least that's what the latest online rumors say.

Well, I don't know exactly how good, 'Knights...' is, but like I said, I'm a Star Wars dork, so I'll get it anyway.

Again, I know where you're coming from regarding next generation systems. I was in Game Stop the other night and the guy working there mentioned PS3 and XBox-2. He said they both could come out 2006 or late '05. Hopefully the games will be backward compatible like the PS1 games were.

MTK 11-19-2004 02:08 PM

The latest I heard was the next XBOX is due in late '05, with the new PS3 and Nintendo to follow in early '06.

Reportedly there's going to be two versions of the PS3, one version will be a home entertainment system like the special edition PSX that will have a DVD/CD burner, DVR and a bunch of other stuff. That will start at at least $500 and will be big with the techies. Then there will be a stripped down version for just games and DVD's that will start at around $300.

Hopefully Nintendo will wise up and get online with their next system. That is really what held the cube back. It's a shame too because it's a very nice system. I think the graphics are better on the cube compared to the PS2, it's faster too, the load times on the PS2 can be ridiculous.

All 3 systems should be at E3 2005.

PS2 = 200mhz, crappy gfx... gamecube = 550mhz (ibm powerpc), ati gfx...
xbox = 733mhz (celeron with aluminum connectors), geforce 2.5

Can view the trailer there. I still have to beat KOTOR I as a Dark Jedi, I beat it as a "good guy"

The only thing I didn't like about the first was that "Yoda" dude didn't talk "Yodaese". He talked normally, and not all backwards and stuff

That Guy 11-20-2004 11:01 PM

KOTOR is just proof that good voice acting can really make a game... chronicles of riddick is the same way (but a FPS instead).
