Sometimes kids get away from you, last week my daughter snuck upstairs and decided to put on $30 worth of my wife's makeup. Pretty innocuous, but we were like damn, if she can get away from us to do that, what else can happen. It prompted a full day of childproofing. I think the lesson is with little kids, don't own a hot tub or a pool, unless you have a foolproof way of locking them out of it. They're drawn to fun stuff like this.

They tend not to rule negligence on something like this unless there was something appalling going on. The legal system understands that kids get into stuff.

I have a 4 yr old son & 10 month old daughter. Without them Lord knows where i would be they keep me level-headed and so peaceful. I couldn't imagine losing them they are what i live for. I hope he doesn't blame himself for this it's very easy to do. God Bless the Cunningham family & give them strength to overcome this tragedy.

Wow, when I hear stories like this my heart just sinks knowing the lost of such an innocent life and what the family must be going through.

Kids can sneak away (not really trying to sneak away) and things can happen before you know they are gone. Me and my daughter where going out side last week but I had to get something and I thought my wife was putting on her shoes. Next thing I know my wife is running out the door and returns with our daughter. I didn't even know she could open the door and its a good thing my wife heard our daughter calling for me. Thats is the first time that has ever happened but what if she did not call for me and instead wondered out into the street. We now keep the door locked but its just a matter of time for her to figure out how to unlock the dead bolt.

My kids are the joy of my life. Just thinking of this feels like a punch in the gut with a sledgehammer. Prayers to the family.

When you have children, particularly small children, life is a constant balance of joy and terror with a fine line dividing them.

I second all the stories of kids getting into stuff, getting out of secure places, or just plain getting into trouble even when supervised. As a parent, you just can't child-proof the world. It takes just a moment - even with things you think are routinely okay.

About a week ago my son (7) was going down the steps - long, narrowish stairwell, hard wooden steps, does it every morning. That morning he is in front of me, chatting away, joking with me, and missteps on the top step. He is three feet away, just out of reach and, as if in a bad dream, I watch him tumble (literally) down the steps in slow motion, banging his head, going at crazy angles before coming to a rest at the bottom. He came out of it scared, shaken up but with only a couple bruises. Scared the living crap out of me!

The death of child is about the most traumatic thing that can happen to a couple. For their sake, I hope Randle and his wife find the strength to deal with this together.

Man that's really sad, you ALWAYS have to watch kids not matter what, especially around pools and in the kitchen.

I remember during Thanksgiving one of my cousins children was playing around the stove and there was a big grease pan up top cooling off. He had wrapped something around the handle, forget what, and it just about poured all over him. Thankfully my Aunt yelled and I jumped up, otherwise it could have been a bad situation.

Tragic. I cannot imagine the grief of losing a young child in such a manner. Last week, a mother lost her child when the boy left her side while they were doing chores in their garden. He was found drown in the sea, next to their house - about 8 minutes later.[B]That's why I never leave my kids unsupervised, at all times.[/B]

I can see this tragedy happening to me, no matter how vigilant you are it only takes a moment for an accident to happen. I've had my shares of near misses, of which I would have severely regretted had it eventuated.[/I]

I was that kid in the pool once, if not for my cousin's quick actions I doubt I'd be here to post this. And it's not like I was alone. The whole family was with me, but all it takes is a couple of seconds of no one looking and tragedy can happen

Absolutely horrible. I can't even begin to imagine the feeling. I always fear losing a little brother for some strange reason and have no clue what it would be like to do that, much less a child. I imagine that my will to continue wouldn't be very strong at the time.
