SS it's not fair you limited me to just five. There's more. j/k
Finally someone else has the great Unitas. If he lived in this era he would be seriously tearing it up.

My bad, Never seen him play in real life, just clips. I guess I would have to substitute him with Steve Young or Roger Staubach.

I'll have to agree on your list, with the exception of having Franco Harris instead Gale Sayers and that is only due to Gale's amount of year's played. I would also rank Payton ahead of Smith. Payton has to be my favorite running back, the guy played defense on offense (he was like a LB, he hit you and made a hole). I hated Drew Pearson cause that bastard killed us many times.

A vast majority here never saw him play.

I didn't put Brady on my list because of the cheating. I always wonder (before they got caught) how much of his success had to do with the cheating.

I wanted to include Eric Dickerson, Earl Campbell and Franco Harris, being limited to five I couldn't. I just listed my five r/b's in no particular order. Funny you mention Drew Pearson, that's why I included him because he was truly a thorn im my side for a long time.

I'll also agree with you on Sayers because his career was so short, but what an electrifying runner he was for the short time he played.

5. T.O.

Cool thread. I believe Montana was the greatest football player of all time, and clearly my top QB. In the Emmitt / Barry debate, I'm probably in the minority, but I would take Emmitt every time since Barry often put his offense in a lot of 3-and-outs by losing 5 yards on first down dancing for the home run, whereas Emmitt would turn a 1 yard play into 3-4 yards by running much more decisively. Payton was probably a better blocker and receiver than both, so I give him the nod as the best RB that I saw. Rice is peerless at WR.
Since I am from the Detroit area I love Barry, but you are right. IF I was a GM or HC, I would pick Emmitt. Barry would get those 20 yard runs, but only after 2-3 runs that netted negative yardage. Guy tap danced too often and back then the Lions' line wasn't so bad.

I have always been reluctant to try and deal with the GOAT. There has been so many different era's of the game it's virtually impossible to try and make any kind of determination as to who is the GOAT at any position. Since it became an American game, there has been many great players and I'm just content to leave it at that.

The saddest name on that list is the "juice", what a talent that guy was. I loved him as a kid and hate him as a grown up. Too bad he turned out to be a murderer.
