Re: Plenty of blame to go around, time to lay some smack down!
Just wanted to defend Doughty a bit, and this seems like the best place...
My take on the Johnson TD was that we ran an aggressive play, rushing 6 men, and the success hinged on QB pressure. We knew that Doughty can't cover AJ, but we were counting on getting to the QB before the play developed. We were able to pressure Schaub, but he made a defender miss and stepped up to make an excellent pass. We gambled and lost. I would have called the same play -- I like aggressive defense on 4th and 10 -- it just didn't work out because Schaub is a great QB. |
Phillip Buchanon, good job in leaving the NFL's best receiver on an island against our 2nd string Free Safety. Oh and be sure to thank Doughty for taking all the blame.
Casey Rabach, please tell the coaches that you are not that good anymore so they can replace you. They seem to think you are a great player for some reason. Jammal Brown (again) WTF were you thinking?!?!
not that i'm defending him, but if he was supposed to pass him off to the safety then i don't see how he did anything wrong. he could have been checking back to watch the underneath routes that may have given them a first. however, he was pretty far down field to stop that, and at some point he has to make a football play and get his hand in there. |
Re: Plenty of blame to go around, time to lay some smack down!
Haslett- for calling an all out blitz on a critical 3rd and 15. Blitzing too much.
Larry Johnson - for running like the tip toe burglar. On the opposite side, game ball to Dirty 30. The guy is playing well. |
Re: Plenty of blame to go around, time to lay some smack down!
Why are we always giving wide receivers a ten yard cushion off the line?

I thought that was more about Pass blocking and his impersonation of Alex Barron. I thought he was solid on the right side. |

I agree to a certain point. One of the things that drives me crazy in a zone cover defense is you need to be very careful when handing off a receiver in the critical 4 to 10 second mark of a pass play. Most smart QB's on a pass play will not hold onto a ball any more than that amount of time and most will deliver the pass in that window. Why release a receiver in that time span to cover an empty zone? I would rather you stay on a receiver than break off to an empty zone. Plus I would rather a reciever be open underneath than let one loose deep. DB's have to be smart enough and use their own discretion form time to time in a zone. Don't be a robot, use your brain and think. |

Freelance we don't need that remember that's what Lavar use to do and that got him kicked of the team.
And that's Heyer's fault?
All I was referring to was Heyer's holding call. I didn't say anything about where he lined up. |
Re: Plenty of blame to go around, time to lay some smack down!
I really don't see where Buchanon played his coverage wrong. Doughty was in position, so what did he do wrong??

Re: Plenty of blame to go around, time to lay some smack down!
That run by LJ was simply pathetic. Where is Betts when you need him?
Carlos Rogers...you got your pick and I guess you took the rest of the day off. Walter pissed all over you. Jim Haslett...Did you forget how to adjust while in the UFL? Watching Schaub run that booleg 30 times got old. Blache would've never let that happen! |

Re: Plenty of blame to go around, time to lay some smack down!
1) Doughty + Buchannon on *that* play.
2) F.Davis whiffing on FG block! 3) Run blocking - no holes, Portis - no runs. No time off the freaking clock to protect a 17 point lead. 4) Entire pass defense for giving up 300 yards to two receivers after finally getting 27 points from the offense. Really? 5) Devin Thomas for nothing. 6) NFL for allowing "icing" the kicker by calling a timeout AFTER the play happens. 7) McNabb for airing it out twice when we needed 3-4 yards. -- once at end to Moss, where running it could have made it a 46-47 yard FG -- once in 4th quarter to Galloway, when we just needed a 1st down 8) Myself -- for actually believing we had finally put it all together. Still, I think this was one of the first recent losses that I felt somewhat okay afterwards. Because compared to our 9-7 losses where we really sucked, this one - I felt like we actually played well. |
Re: Plenty of blame to go around, time to lay some smack down!
Did we have any Pass Interference penalties? If not, I consider that a problem with them torching us for 500 yards........

Re: Plenty of blame to go around, time to lay some smack down!
Clinton Portis: You scored 2 touchdowns, but as Matty alluded to Jamaal Brown's jump offsides call, if Portis didn't trip over his own feet on 2nd down and get the first down or get in the endzone again then its over we win. I don't know if you guys remember the play before the offsides but Portis had a nice lane and just had to keep his feet under him to have been able to get the first down. AND a faster back would have scored on the play. There was plenty of room over there for him to get to the EZ.
