Rush should be in no question, but it doesn't diminish what the Beasties have done.

I think Rush are a truely underappreciated band and their influence is undeniable. Progressive rock in general is usually underappreciated in general. Even broader, Musicianship in rock music these days is too often overlooked. Talent wise, Rush is on the upper echelon...but they really didnt breakthru or have the influence Beastie did. They didnt shift the music culture like the Beastie did. Beasties, first rap album to hit the number 1 on the Billboard. They are pivitol in bringing hip-hop culture to mainstream America, out of the city to the suburbs and even rural states. First major white rappers. Also extremely creative, Pauls Boutique, Check your Head, Ill Communication...that stuff had never been done b4. They are originators. Rush were part of a movement.

So why as Rush been snubbed this long anyway? Definitely doesn't seem right. While I'm not a big fan you can't deny they are insane musicians and have an impressive catalog along with a very loyal following.

Could be several things, I think its the lack of respect for the "progressive" rock band, the fact they were kinda a quiet band without a lot of pop appeal, known better for a "classic rock band" because of a couple song than really any knowledge of their enitire catologe. Plus they tended to influence alot of the metal, hard rock scene of the 80s where music critics tend not to be too fond of....or that they are canadian...who knows, its ridiculous

They should because of this:

Well for the folks who vote acts in, they certainly have to be aware of Rush and their accomplishments and influence. Really no excuse that I can see for them being snubbed for this long. Especially considering that Bon Jovi has been nominated. Not to take anything away from them, they've been a great pop act for a very long time, but c'mon.

At this point, if I was Geddy Lee and the R&R HOF called and wanted me to be available for an induction ceremony next year I'd tell them to stick it up their ass.
Rush has been uberly famous since the early 70's and doesnt need any award from a hack outfit like the HOF.

The Beastie could rock it out too on some serious jams...this one came up on the ipod today and just had to go back and take a look on youtube:

Especially nice they pay a little homage to Pink Floyd live at Pompeii Echos style

Re: Bon Jovi and Beastie Boys Make List for Rock Hall of Fame

There are plenty of rock acts that should be in the Hall of Fame, yet pop acts are getting in? There should be a separate HOF for pop acts in my opinion. I will give it to the Beastie Boys though. They did induce a certain amount of rock into their music and I really liked them. Certainly Bon Jovi deserves it. It is a nothing short of a crime that Rush is not in, as well as some other acts such as Journey.
