It doesn't take much to be called a cancer nowadays. This is what most of you guys hear when you read this: Portis: I want a pay raise in the offseason, despite me being injured 2 consecutive years and having not much value to the team anymore. This is what you guys should hear when you read this: Portis: Sure, I want a pay raise. Will I ask for one or hold out until I get one? No, because there's a big probability I will be cut in the offseason unless I take a pay cut. |
Nothing to get crazy about.
Pretty much what most of us would say; who doesn't want more $$?
Agreed, I don't understand why so many so-called fans are so quick to jump down a players throat on trivial issues such as this. |
Re: Clinton Portis wants a pay raise???
Nothing wrong with asking for a pay raise, doesn't mean your worth it or gonna get it.
The fact is in the case of Portis this is more than likely a moot point I don't see him in Redskin future plans, I think his time in DC is over. |
Re: Clinton Portis wants a pay raise???
There's no way Portis actually thinks he's deserving of a raise. I'm convinced he was only being sarcastic. He hasn't lost sight of statue on the team.

"Portis pockets' are fine" Portis

I guess a better phrasing would have been 'risking a cancer in the locker room'. Sure, I think if Portis is on the team and continuously going to the press, like he has been known to do in the past, saying that he deserves a raise, it could become a bad situation. better to have as many guys on the same page as possible unless he keeps quiet. |

PPL use this term way too much |
Re: Clinton Portis wants a pay raise???
From a post on skins insider & from what some have said here, Portis will make 6-8 mil in 2011 but none of it guaranteed right? i.e. he can be cut w/no cap ramifications.
If that's correct it would appear that he's likely to be cut, based on salary alone. I think it would be sad if both he & mgmt. didn't work towards a contract that both could live with. He's not gonna make big $ elsewhere so he might as well try & stay. He changed his ways & could be a big contributor to the team as a 3rd down back & vet leader. Would seem sad for him to leave now & go elsewhere to do the same thing for less than what the skins would be willing to pay him, but that's probably more likely to happen. |
Re: Clinton Portis wants a pay raise???
Gotta love his sense of humor. He's going to be lucky to be on a team next year. I really hope we move in another direction. Time to move on. I'd like to see a homerun hitter. Someone like Noel Devine as a guy that can get 8-10 carries and be a 3rd down back.

Re: Clinton Portis wants a pay raise???
This is why I love Portis and hate stupid fans. Who doesn't want a raise?
He isn't stupid, he knows he isn't getting one. |
Re: Clinton Portis wants a pay raise???
Portis has my respect for the stats he accumulated here and what he brought on the field, before his downfall. I never liked his attitude or his tendency to throw everyone under the bus, but when he was healthy, he was a baller.
He is at the end of his career. While only 30, he has suffered major injuries each of the last few seasons, and no matter how he says it was just a "fluke", the reality is that his body has broken down. He is no longer an elite runner, doesnt have the breakaway speed anymore, and can't shed tackles. I dont think he will be here next year, but i think whatever team that signs him will give him something like an incentive based, 1 year contract as a backup/ 3rd down back, to see what he still has left. Unfortunatley for CP, that isn't very much. |
Re: Clinton Portis wants a pay raise???
I'm afraid the only raise he'll be getting will be in the form of a passenger jet taking off, as it departs Reagan National. Thanks for the memories Clinton, but you're officially, unofficially done in the NFL. It's really a shame he couldn't stay healthier but them's the breaks.

Re: Clinton Portis wants a pay raise???
I don't see a problem with him asking. I would.

Just suppose... The Skins offer to have you back as a part-time back at some kind of reduced salary. Some other team - - for the sake of argument let's say the Patriots - - offer you 90% of what the Skins are willing to pay you and you will have the same part-time duties there - - - PLUS a much better shot at the playoffs and a Super Bowl appearance. You are Clinton Portis. What offer do you take? Translation: Is about winning or is it about $$$? |
