Re: Bob Sanders Cut; Redskins Have Needs Everywhere Including Free Safety
Sanders knock was he always excelled at that position in spite of his smallish size. And that small frame probably explains a lot about the injuries and missed games.
Had another guy on the CowboysBoard bring this up. Just say no. He is on the wrong side of 30, has been oft injured, and is too small for a 3-4 safety. Can you imagine a guy his size in a 3-4 in the NFC East having to go head to head with Brandon Jacobs twice a season? Methinks NOT! |

According to who? What, do we have too many Bloods on the roster currently? lol Get out of town. |
Re: Bob Sanders Cut; Redskins Have Needs Everywhere Including Free Safety
I knew this thread will be made after I saw the news about Sanders.. He is absolutely beast when healthy.. I would not mind if we offer him a contract with small guarantees, however we must not make game plans around him because he cannot stay healthy, evidently.

Re: Bob Sanders Cut; Redskins Have Needs Everywhere Including Free Safety
I really don't think we're so close to contention that adding (even a healthy) Bob Sanders would make us a playoff team, but he's a smart player who would be a good fit here. He'd be a good signing, but then get someone young with future starting potential to back him up on the depth chart (NOT Kareem Moore). The expectation is that Bob Sanders' backup is going to play a crap-ton of snaps. That's why it has to be someone young, if not someone ready for the role.
Sanders isn't going to get more than a one year guarantee from any team, so why shouldn't the Redskins be the team that gives him that one year?
Given Bruce Allen's knack of signing players to low risk contracts, I say why not. I do want the Redskins to address this issue, although I think Barnes did a good job later in the season as a FS. Maybe we can bring Sanders to tutor Barnes as our FS of the future. |
Re: Bob Sanders Cut; Redskins Have Needs Everywhere Including Free Safety
Vet min's a funny joke and everything but it's true. Signing these kind of guys on the cheap (if possible) is how you pay off in the NFL.
We've proven that signing guys coming off great seasons is not the way to go, it's the equivalent of buying a stock high and selling low. Let him sit out there as a free agent for a while, address needs through the draft, then get some free agents once we have a CBA, and then add Sanders on the cheap if he's still available. You can't count on him for much so I think we still fill the safety position need. Then add Sanders for depth. If somebody else gets him before us and pays a lot, oh well not our problem. But the Eagles got Vick by waiting and waiting. Wait, see if you can get him cheap, keep it low risk, and there's nothing but upside reward. |

I mean Sanders' health problems are pretty bad, but you're right. Let's wait and see, and maybe he can land with us for cheap. |
Re: Bob Sanders Cut; Redskins Have Needs Everywhere Including Free Safety
I'm not even talking vet min, but I'm talking multi-year, zero signing bonus, 2011 salary is 100% guaranteed upon signing. That way, after the 2011 season, he's cost free to release if he contributed nothing/was injured. And if he was a productive player this year, you have a free safety of the present under contract with the team through 2013 or 2014. Thats a winning deal for the club.

Re: Bob Sanders Cut; Redskins Have Needs Everywhere Including Free Safety
I think he would be a great pick up to play the starting role on a rotation with Macho Harris. He could help Harris's development into a legit starter to play alongside Landry.

Re: Bob Sanders Cut; Redskins Have Needs Everywhere Including Free Safety
9 games in 3 years. Amazing talent but no thanks. Let's find another way to address the FS position.

Re: Bob Sanders Cut; Redskins Have Needs Everywhere Including Free Safety
A) He's not a FS
B) He gets injured all the time No thanks, unless you can guarantee me that he'll stay healthy and can play FS |

Me too... I didn't even look at it from that angle. I work in law enforcement lol... |
Re: Bob Sanders Cut; Redskins Have Needs Everywhere Including Free Safety
You mean having .1 of a person is going to address a need?
|
Re: Bob Sanders Cut; Redskins Have Needs Everywhere Including Free Safety
I don't think anybody is saying that the signing of Bob Sanders should at all preclude us from simultaneously picking up another safety.
