Yeah, I am not good at the provider switch game. But have learned quite a bit over the last couple years. Negotiate the terms of your contract for a shorter period than they say it will be for signing up for or upgrading any service. And call when your contract is about to expire. I have until Nov so I don't have much leverage but come Oct, they will be getting the "what have you done for me lately" call.

Definitely call them up! I have three months free of the movie channels and will be calling them up to cancel them. I don't really watching them THAT much anyway, but the last time I did that, they did give me another three months free for them.

If you can't have a dish (not a good signal, apartment building won't allow it, etc), this is beneficial. And it targets cord-cutters. Those aren't usually sports fans, but this protects against that to an extent.

OK, so you don't need the dish for this content, but you do still have to pay for the NFL Sunday Ticket. I'm not sure how successful this would be if it is targeting the cord-cutters, since their #1 objective is to get their entertainment for free. Now, if they were offering this for just the $50, I would have jumped on this and not hooked back up to DirecTV.

Shoot, if I could have the Ticket for $50, I'd happily switch to Directv.

SS, since you are into internet sports marketing, I have to give a shout for all of us who simply cannot afford Sunday Ticket. Even if I could afford it, it would be kind of a waste, since you can't watch all of EVERY game.

Instead it would be great if there were an a la carte model where I could pay to stream the games that I want. If I ended up paying $80 a year on the a la carte model, I'd go for it. And that is $80 a year that providers would have, whereas now they get nothing from me because $335 is just too expensive.

I realize that there are real knots in this suggestion, such as Directv's contract. But $80 a year from many consumers may end up financially outweighing $335 a year from fewer consumers.

I'm sure that you've approached all of this before because internet marketing is what you do. I just wanted to take the opportunity to cast a vote for the little guy.

yeah but who wants to watch the game the next day, i can't even let it record for a while so i can fast foprward the commercials. i need it live, or as close to live as possible.

and i completely agree with lotus, if there were an a la carte service to get just the games you actually wanted to see that would be way more attractive than the deal the have going now, knida of like ordering ppv

I think the a la carte is a great idea too but I am also positive someone at DTV has crunched those numbers and it is more profitably for DTV to sell it in whole year packages.

You can cry it is $335 but obviously the market can bear it thus why they charge that much. I can cry a new Lexus cost $75k but that doesn't make it criminal or wrong I just simply can't afford that car, much like you can't afford $335 for the Ticket.

For the record I won't waste $335 on the Ticket but then again I live in the DC market and see ever game I know it is different for others.

I also agree with Lotus. I would be willing to pay the NFL $80 - $100 a year to watch my team play and either have this through DirecTV, Dish, Cable, or the PS3 deal. In fact, I hate the idea that cable and satellite companies force you to choose between packages. I realize the costs they have in regards to keeping certain stations, but honestly, I wished the consumer had the choice to build their own packages. I don't need half the channels that are on my package, but there are channels on other DirecTV packages that I want but don't want to upgrade to get them. Honestly, I'd probably just have a handful of channels and I would be satisfied.

In a perfect world, I'd have the local channels in HD, ESPN, ESPN 2, Comcast Sports Network, TBS, TNT, USA, NFL Network, And FX. That's roughly about 11 channels that I'd watch out of the 200+ that I have currently.

$335 for 17 weeks of football = about $20 a week. For me it's a no-brainer as an out of town fan, and also someone who loves to kick back and flip through all the games and basically spends most of Sundays watching football.

I think we'll eventually see more options become available.

Yes, and I subscribe to that service. But it is a day late. If you want game drama, you must be an ostrich and hear/see no news for a day after the games are over. You must avoid every co-worker on Monday so that you know nothing before you can get home and see the game. You must avoid the Warpath. Not only is such pretty impossible, it takes away all the fun.

There is no substitute for seeing the game live.
