I don't think he'll disappoint in particular, but he might get hurt if the o-line doesn't protect him. Sure he'll run, but eventually that catches up to him.
I don't think it's even remotely fair to compare McNabb to Vick. McNabb was already aging, banged up, and past his prime when he arrived here.
Vick is still a young man that is playing like a young man and is just starting to hit his stride as a pro, if he continues at the pace he did last year. Vick is easily worth the money if he can keep performing like he did last year. I doubt he disappoints. I see the negative firestorm around the net. Haters are gonna come out of the woodwork now. Factor away Vick's time in Prison, and you have the same situation as Peyton Manning; a 100 million dollar contract. Not trying to open the Michael Vick Prison debate again, but i seriously think thats the only reason why people are bitching about his contract now....If he would have never went to prison, would people think he is worth the money? I think so.
For the last time, 31 is not young. |

especially for an undersized guy who likes to get out and run, and has a porous offensive line. We shall see. I like redemption stories. BUT I still have apprehensions about his game. |

Good for MV.

Manning/Brady et al have made their teams perennial contenders, and their loss would devastate their teams. Vick is a role player, who got a very lucky break to go to a very stable situation and one that possibly let's him excel. My point in my quote was that the normally frugal iggles have really splurged this year and I hope it leads them into the type of cap quandry that we have been in the last few years. |

One good season, not even a full season, gets you $100 million? Crazy.

Sitting out two years does make you comparably young. Plus outside of Chris Johnson no one worth a damn will be faster than him. |
Re: Mike Vick & Eagles agree 6yrs/$100 mil, $40 mil guaranteed
It's a deal that Vick "earned" in the NFL sense although everyone knows it's too much money. The Eagles didn't really have a choice but to make the deal but in the end they'll regret the contract in 3 years (depending on structure obvi). Congrats to MV for delivering after all the crap in his life. Glad it wasn't us though long term.

Man.. So if Beck has a Above Average year this year, do we give him an extension like this? Of course not for this amount, but you get what i'm saying.

Re: Mike Vick & Eagles agree 6yrs/$100 mil, $40 mil guaranteed
Well Vick was a proven NFL commodity before he went to jail. Yes I know all of his flaws, and I know he was not always great. That being said, he was one of the most electrifying players in the NFL for 5 or 6 years. He brought the Falcons to the NFC Championship game. He was and still is a freak talent. The Eagles were going to pay the guy insane money this year with the franchise tag so they figured they would get this done.
Beck will never get a contract like this. |
Re: Mike Vick & Eagles agree 6yrs/$100 mil, $40 mil guaranteed
Michael Vick (up until last year) could never win a game with just his arm. That's the kind of QB that's needed in the NFL, which is exactly why I believe guys like Vince Young, Cam Newtwon, Tim Tebow and many other run oriented college QBs won't succeed in the NFL. The scrambling will win you some games, and makes nice for selling jerseys and ESPN highlights, but it's not going to get you to the big show.
I personally don't think MV is going to last the full year. I believe their OL is still problematic and he still has a propensity to run a bit. |

No. Vick carried that team on his shoulders. Vick is a dynamic player that if he can stay healthy will do very well. That is a big if. His playing style of running and holding onto the ball as long as he does can get him killed if he is not careful. But he is not a role player. He is not a conventional pocket passer and that is why he is misunderstood by the so called experts. |
Re: Mike Vick & Eagles agree 6yrs/$100 mil, $40 mil guaranteed
Along the lines of this signing and Vick's ability/likelihood of staying healthy...why is the iggles o-line giving up so many sacks? I thought they invested in two big-time tackles over the last couple of seasons? I mean Philly is an organization I expect to make sense, and it makes no sense to pay insane money to a QB when you haven't put the pieces in place to protect him...
...that said I think a healthy Vick is worth every penny of the contract. |
