No surprise to me either...
HOWEVER... I know I'll catch some flak for this one, but I also feel that "Big Ben" was also one of the most overrated players in the game. It's easy to say this about anyone, but looking at his supporting cast and how many yards Bettis ran for nearly each game, it's tough to not be at least half-decent on a team like that. Don't get me wrong, he's a great quarterback, but I wouldn't necessarily think he is the second coming of Terry Bradshaw as so many Steelers fans think he is. In my opinion, the games I did watch him play in, his passes were fairly inaccurate, especially when pressure is in his face. Then again, I could be talking about the game when he played the Redskins and how easy would anyone have it with our beast defense throwing blitzes at them. Too bad someone else couldn't have bested "Big Ben" in the voting, but in the end I feel like it was out of lack of competition to give it to him, rather than him actually earning it.
To some extent I agree actually. I mean, he's a fine QB and I think he'll have a long, solid career. But if you look closely at his season he wasn't as good toward the end as he was in the beginning when defenses didn't have him figured out. Still, I don't think any rookie came close |
Lee Evans, Michael Clayton, Kevin Jones, and unfortunately Julius Jones all deserved some consideration but yeah this was Big Ben's prize to win. I never realized he as a rookie almost finished the season with almost a 100 qb rating. That's just absolutely unheard of.
And I don't know when they select the comeback player of the year award but if Brees doesn't win that hands down then someone's on the take. |
Sorry, I thought Gates was a rookie.
Michael Clayton and Kevin Jones probably should be neck and neck for 2nd place in this voting in my opinion. |
