Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
If we don't draft Claiborne then I'd go for Webb or Grimes and am starting to come around to the Dwayne Bowe playing for us theory. Him or Vincent Jackson.
Sorry, I'm a little dumb with this cap space stuff. So how much will we have going into free agency in March?
$38 million is what the Redskins have right now, but that's a bit misleading because of all their free agents.
They have about $15 or $16 million with which to improve the team and about an additional $30 million in salary flexibility with players on their own roster. |

"According to The Warpath.net the Redskins have a projected cap commitment next year of $82.75 million. Now even the Warpath.net will admit that their numbers aren’t official, but they do an excellent job of finding the information out from news reports and various other sources, and next to having access to the league’s official cap numbers it is about as good as you are going to get. Now I cross checked their numbers with other sources such as Rotoworld (which doesn’t always give the cap numbers and you need to guesstimate a lot) and Sportrac, and the Warpath numbers looked to be on in just about every case. So while they could be slightly off their numbers seem to be close enough to the mark to evaluate." :embarrass |

I've verified all the salaries and they are up to date. Will continue to tweak the bonus amounts as new info becomes available. But the bulk of this should be pretty accurate. |

According to Tandler we might have up to $11.9M to carry over to next year: Rich Tandler's Real Redskins: Salary cap "The new CBA allows teams to carry over unused cap money from one season to the next. According to our sister site Pro Football Talk, the Redskins had $11.9 million in cap space as of Nov. 20. They have eaten into a little of that with some injury replacements and some other roster moves but they still have almost all of it. So if the 2012 salary cap is $125 million as it is projected to be now, the Redskins will have almost $137 million to spend in 2012." According to my records we had very little if any cap room at the end of 2011. We might get a small credit but I'd be very surprised if it was anywhere near $11.9M. |

I have read stuff like what you just quoted about big numbers we were under, but when I looked at actual figures, I would see far less. I have been going with a slightly educated assumption that the carryover would be about 4 mil. But I have no reason to have any confidence in a number like that. |

What actual figures are you referring to? The cap numbers on this site are estimates based on information from different sources. It's normal to be off by a mill or two, but a $12M discrepency seems large. Of course it's possible, but your educated assumption of $4M is probably closer to reality. |
