John Beck could have worked out. Beck had two failings as a Redskins quarterback. He rushed his reads just about every time he dropped back to pass and he had absolutely no poise whatsoever. That is why he didn't succeed in Washington.

He had all of Big Bens bad habits and almost none of his good ones on the field mind you.

So you're saying he could be an NFL starter?

You forgot that he couldn't/wouldn't throw the ball more than 10 yards downfield.

Without a doubt Beck could have been a decent starter given the right circumstances. However, I think he was mentally destroyed long before he got to DC.

Like most rookie QBs, they are often thrown into very bad situations and expected to succeed. Too often it doesn't end well for either parties. You can't put a rookie QB with no offensive line, no running game, shitty WRs and expect something good to come of it. It's futile and a major reason why teams that draft QBs so high often see them fail. Take notes on how Jacksonville is throwing Gabbert out in the fire with a crappy OL and shitty WRs. It's not going to end well for him.

I believe Beck was shell shocked back in Miami, and considering how he was so gun shy and so quick to dump it off, it spoke volumes of his confidence in himself. That Buffalo game was a train wreck to watch. The guy folded under the pressure, held the ball too long and just simply was overwhelmed mentally. I'm almost positive David Carr was another QB just like Beck. Had the talent and skill, but thrown into a bad situation and never recovered mentally. As we all know, once a QB's confidence is shot, it's pretty much game, set and match.

Highly doubtful. He's simply not an NFL QB. He's not a pin point passer, no feel in the pocket, can't anticipate when guys are coming open. The NFL game is too fast for him. This is why I simply have little faith in the Shanahan's when it comes to talent evaluation. They fed us this clown and even I knew he couldn't play. When some young guys get thrown in the fire you can at least see something. I saw nothing when Beck played in Miami. To me, Blaine Gabbert looks like John Beck. Everything is just too fast for him.

Yes, if he didn't play scared. As I said, if Beck showed more poise he could have succeeded. He rushed his reads only because he was scared of the rush. If a NFL QB worries about the rush and rushes his reads and as a result lacks poise, then he won't be able to succeed at the NFL level.

hooskins 04-29-2012 02:28 AM

Beck had little skill. The problem is more than poise.
