Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes

Kyle and Mike have done a terrific job putting together an offensive scheme that can take advantage of the team's talents. This line is not big, but they can move, so we have stretch zone plays that outflank the defense, and a decisive back who is very hard to bring down once he makes the one-cut.

Our WRs are sturdy and willing to block, they're sharp route-runners. And needless to say, RG3 is all that and a bag o' Doritos.

What's amazing is that going into this offseason (which we don't even need to think about yet), do we really need any offensive pieces? Anybody we pick up would seem to be luxury/depth. We can focus almost all of our resources on defense.

Future's so bright.

This is a great point. A main reason our OL is playing at the level that they are is because they are good fits for the offense we run and we run plays to their strengths. This is not the Hogs 2.0. These guys aren't going to blow defensive lines 3 yards off of the ball because that's not what they're expected to do. This isn't a power running line but for what the scheme calls for, they are balling out.

It will be interesting to see next year if LeReibus can push Liectenstiger for the LG spot and who we bring in to replace Brown & Polumbus. After many years of neglect, our line is no longer a cause of major concern. Shanahan deserves credit for addressing and improving that.

I agree that the offensive line has played admirably this season. Trent Williams is playing at an all pro level and Kory Lichtensteiger has been pancaking DTs and linebackers all season. While I would like to see an upgrade at center, I feel Will Montgomery has been spectacular. Chris Chester has been quiet but I don't think he's given up a sack all year long. A lot of people feel Polumbus is below average but for a 2nd string RT he has played well all season.

RT. The way Garcon and the rest of the wr's look lately - Robinson and even Hank - i would say that WR is a non issue. Though we have to wonder if this is Moss's swan song? Davis will be back at tight end. Alot of talented youth on that side of the ball. Yeah offense looks pretty solid For sometime.

The Redskins have been a top ten offense all season long. Certainly the Redskins have improved tremendously since last season. If Bruce Allen has sighted anything at all wrong with the offensive line, I'm sure he and Mike Shanahan will address it in free agency. Compton, Gettis, and LeRibeus won't be starting anytime soon.

I really believe that Moss could do a Welker-like thing (play the slot) when he can't run a post anymore. So no, I don't think this is his swan song. With RG3 at QB receivers are gonna hang around as long as they can.

Where was Dezmon Briscoe yesterday?

Chris Chester has been one of the more under-appreciated FA acquisitions of recent years. I remember a few people here lambasting the move. Do they feel the same now?

Future's so bright.[/quote]We need players that make people miss in open space. So if Brandon Banks were a concept instead of a bad football player, we would need that.

Garcon is really good after the catch, but we need more players that fit that mold to make this offense work long term.

The good news is that we don't need to target any one position.

I'm not ready to say we're set at WR, we still need a consistent playmaker in the red zone. We've been getting by well with the talent we have, but I'd still like to see us address the position during off season.

As far as Hank, eh, he's been okay. Nothing to really write home about honestly.

Chester is a stud.. boomer!

I never bashed the move, because quiet simply, we needed OLineman.

He is a very solid guard.

mike didn't put a scheme together around te OL we had, he got OL that fit his scheme, if you don't remember. that's why guys like chester came in and the bigger guys all went away. he likes small fast OL guys and that's what he went out and got.

and, i mean, it's working, so why mess with it. i would seriously look at vollmer in NE as a new RT though. we can't spend money on a LT type player, but he's a solid RT that could be in the price range.

has anyone done an updated run analysis on the skins? we've been running left almost twice as much as right the last couple years from what i remember. is that still the same?
