Lol! My bad. |
Re: Replacing the KO
Is it really that hard to see the difference between punts and kickoffs?
|
Re: Replacing the KO
Kick offs are not going away. The current system still allows for the onside kick, missed kick out of bounds, a return, and a pooch kick (probably not the correct name or spelling).
Good points about onsides on so forth...can't really eliminate those in my opinion because it is a very fundamental change. |

Now we have an answer to the question: Who snorts the most cock before kickoff? I did always wonder..... |
Re: Replacing the KO
I can see how some might think KOs aren't any more dangerous..especially since the image of a single gunner getting downfield and leveling the returner is pretty well known. But the difference is on KOs is that EVERYBODY is going full bore like that...it sorta makes everyone not look as fast and diminishes proper perspective.

It depends on what you consider a PED. You've seen FD's posts, you call it. |
Re: Replacing the KO
At first glance, this idea seems idiotic because it's so far outside the realm of what we know football to be.
Thinking through this idea though, it's not as crazy as it may seem when you consider the nature of most coaches. For most of the game, a coach would not risk giving up that type of field position by going for it so they would probably punt it away. The percentages of teams retaining the ball is slim, probably at or lower than current onside kick success rates. But this also gives an opportunity for teams to try to get an additional offensive possession at the end of games (like an onside kick) if they need to as opposed to eliminating the kickoff altogether and killing that option. As for the difference between a kickoff and a punt, on a kickoff, 10 players are spread across the field, with a running start against basically retreating targets. On a punt there is stationary contact at the line and controlled contact all the way down the field. Huge difference. |

No. But I do love me some potato wedges. |

Pain isn't in on the joke. How quaint. |

Right. The problem with getting rid of kick-offs is that you are getting rid of onside kicks. So the Schiano solution would take care of that. I like it. |

Paintrain, meet First Down. First Down, put down the rooster and meet Paintrain. Or you could just read FD's magnificent post here which he's subsequently edited. Daseal (correction) quoted him later in the thread so it's saved for eternity. |
