Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
Yeah I don't buy that thinking, because the Colts really had one bad year. They haven't been a franchise mired in mediocrity. I do understand they have many new players.
Luck has had a solid season but not the most efficient in my opinion. I mean the turnovers alone have been prolific and at times horrific. Luck this year is like that NBA player who you say "Wow! He scored 40 points tonight" and then you see he was 13-38 from the field, 4-10 from 3 point range, and 12-12 from the line" (don't ask me if that adds up to 40, I didn't do the math). But speak from your heart man, you're a lifelong DC resident. Talk about how the two most important positions in DC are President of the US and Redskins QB. And RG3 has revitalized not just the franchise, but the community.
Excellent point and definitely something to emphasize, I can't ever remember a season like this. What he's done in uniting people around the DMV is nothing short of incredible. I can't go anywhere in public or at work with Skins gear on without getting into a conversation with someone about what the Skins have done, or what RG3 is going to do next. It's crazy thinking about how one guy has brought us a lot of people together like this. |
Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
I'm jsut curious, if Luck were a Redskin and RG3 was a Colt, and they're stats were the same, what would we say about RG3? Probably that he plays in a safer offense and Luck throws it downfield more. Both guys are very very good for rookies. But in the passing game, Indy w/out question demands more from Luck than we do with RG3.

Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
Luck might have more yards passing simply because he hasn't enjoyed the running game that Gryphon has. To me this point narrows the passing yardage gap between the two.
The yardage gap becomes much narrower when you consider what Gryphon has done with his legs, in terms of rushing yardage. And it is not just the yardage gap at stake here: Gryphon makes defenses play honest in a way that Luck does not because of his running threat. Since the radio is interested in our perceptions of Luck, of course I think that Luck is a phenomenal talent. He has a strong, accurate arm, makes some good decisions (and will make better decisions when he is no longer a rook), and provides leadership. But I personally have no Luck envy. As phenomenal as Luck has been, I am very happy that we have Gryphon. |
Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
RG3's stats blow Luck's out of the water when you compare them side by side, no contest really.
Luck has too many turnovers.
Some stats. He's way behind in yards, attempts, completions, and slightly behind in TDs. Now granted, I would prefer RGIII's stats to Luck's so lets get that cleared up before any knuckleheads decide to read more into than what's said. Bottom line is, Luck has less to work with than RGIII does, and is asked to do more than RGIII is. Would he be causing that many TOs if he had a running game like we do? Who knows. Does Luck have a Trent Williams or a Montgomery blocking for him? Not hardly. Our 3rd string TE(paulsen) has outperformed all of their TEs. (including Fleener) Remember, that Colts defense is one that gave up 352 rushing yards the other week so it's not like that defense is carrying the team. It's not. |
Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
I hate to say it, but in my mind if the Redskins dont' win this Sunday and win the Division, then I think Andrew Luck is ROY for taking his team to the playoffs. If The skins win however, RGIII will have won the NFC East for his team, which one-ups Luck. I know RGIII wins the "most effecient" award between the two of them and Russell Wilson has been right up there as well. But objectively you have to say going from 2-14 to the playoffs is just amazing for Indy and without Luck, it doesn't happen.
Yeah, had they not decided to cut ties and go the youth route with Luck they might have been stuck with Peyton Manning. :silly: |
Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
Well you know part of being a great QB is making players around you better. So we shouldn't just look at it like well lucky for RG3 he's got Logan Paulsen...why not lucky for Pualsen he's got RG3

Let's just say RG3's passing stats are vastly more efficient. Higher QB rating, completion %, QBR, only 5 INTs, etc. And you can add in his impressive rushing numbers as well. I think RG3 keeps defensive coordinators up at night, Luck is good but I don't think opposing DC's have fits about having to face him like they do with Griffin. |
Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
i just think you keep it simple and look at expectations. RG3 is 2nd rated passer behind Aaron Rogers, that is just amazing. Noone thought he could throw the ball this effecient out of college.

Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
Redskins are #1 in the NFL in yards per play with 6.3 yards per play. Higher than Denver and New England. NFL Football Stats - NFL Team Yards per Play on TeamRankings.com
Redskins are #1 in the NFL in least amount of turnovers. Redskins are #1 running team in the NFL. RG3 is 2nd rated passer behind Aaron Rogers. "RGIIi is more physically gifted player than Luck with a beautiful throwing motion and a knack for making good decisions on the football field – and he also just happens to have track-star speed." The colts offense is not number at anything other than maybe turnovers |
Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
Don't forget to ask him about question number 3.

Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
I actually don't think it is that close -- to Smoot's point, a great QB makes those around him better. Logan Paulsen is a third string TE w/o RG3, Pierre Garcon was always a #2 but with RG3, is playing like a #1. Santana has played surprisingly well b/c of RG3. On top of that, the whole, "RG3 has Alfred Morris" argument doesn't really hold as much water either. Morris is a beast but when a linebacker has to forever spy your quarterback b/c of the play-action bootleg, it makes running the ball much easier.
As for the Andrew Luck has to throw more passes -- that still doesn't work b/c in terms of Passer Rating, QBR, Yards per Attempt etc. and all other metrics of efficiency, RG3 is ahead by a comfortable margin. |
Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
12th. Sounds like an awesome opportunity. I wouldn't bad mouth Luck. We've been lucky to see possibly the best rookie QB class ever. Both are great players that will be fun to watch for a long time.
A great resource is this indystar article that compares all rookies and their stats: Test of Luck | Indianapolis Star | indystar.com I suggest checking it out for the big differences between the two. Luck is asked to throw the rock a lot more than Griffin. Because of that teams are able to play better coverage. I think if we played a traditional NFL offense, like Luck, RG3 would see many more INTs. Also, fumble numbers may be important. RG3 has 12 fumbles (2 lost) and Luck has 10 (5 lost). So add an additional 3 turnovers to Luck. I think Luck is a fantastic player, but really the change in DC is amazing. We haven't won for a long time. We've had 'hope' for the first few weeks of the year -- but the last time I was inspired going into week 17 was....... I don't even know. Have fun and please let us know how it goes and find out if there's a way we can listen to the interview online! Edit: Surprisingly RG3 only has 1 more rushing TD than Luck (6v5) |
Re: I'm Going On INDY Radio To Discuss Luck vs RGIII!
FWIW, I don't like QBR. Kaepernick is two slots ahead of RG in total QBR. No thanks.
