Will Jamarcus Russell make an NFL team this year? He is training at TEST Academy in San Diego, along with Jeff Garcia, Marshall Faulk, and some other high-caliber athletes. I've been watching the documentary on him so far, and it's very interesting. Russell is below 300 pounds as of 5 days ago, and still hopes to be at 265 by the time of his Pro Day that he is holding in April. Watching him work out, it's definatley a work in progress but he is apparantly impressing them and all involved believe he will reach his goal. He looks good throwing the ball. He had some misses but the arm strength is still there. I don't believe for a second that J-Marc is broke. He may be celebrity broke, but i can't imagine that working with Garcia and company is cheap.. Bottom line is the guy is showing a work ethic now and i think he has to make it somewhere, maybe not as a starter right away, but he is surely better than alot of NFL backups. I know number one picks can be busts, but it's not like just anybody can get the no 1 pick....thoughts??[/quote] Mind blowing isnt it? |

Jamarcus Russell will make a team this year. The Montreal Alouettes. They need an experienced clipboard holder.

Re: Will Jamarcus Russell make a team this year?
Wanted to update this one, I watched every single Bleacher Report video. I say Russell gets a second shot. His weight is down over 40 pounds, he looks quick on his feet, and still has all kinds of arm. Jeff Garcia has a future in Pro Football as a QB Coach or something, even before he took on JaMarcus there were whispers of him coming back to the NFL as a coach / specialist.
Garcia has NFL connections, even ESPN has now aired a mini documentary about Russell that is actually very touching. Garcia reached out to Russell on his own, and offered to help him come back if that's what he really wanted. He told Russell that if at any time he felt like Russell was not for real, then Garcia was done with him. He seems like a good guy who put himself in a bad situation and now is trying to go back to the only thing he knows. That in itself is sad. I did not know that both of Russell's uncles died within months of each other. The one uncle practically raised him and was a father figure. It's still unsettling to see a 6 foot 6 270 pound man cry like a baby when he talks of how sorry he is that everything turned out the way it did.... |

No worries.....he's training with Albert Haynesworth........

Re: Will Jamarcus Russell make a team this year?
I remember when he got drafted and the all the so called experts said he had the best pro day they'd ever seen. This is the classic example of why these pro days mean nothing. John Beck would probably look good at a pro day. Different story when NFL defenses are game planning, mixing up coverages and blitzing.

Too little too late. I don't see him making a team.

Re: Will Jamarcus Russell make a team this year?
He's got the odds against him for sure. One thing that I do ask myself is if him being dealt to the Raiders was one of the factors that led to his demise. I forget where I read it but one guy who was really close with Russell prior to the draft, he knew that Russell was a great athlete and could make an exceptional QB, but he worried that Russell needed a good stable organization where he could be brought along slowly, and he feared that a place like the Raiders where they had a 1st year head coach would do nothing but harm him...I wish I knew that guys name

Re: Will Jamarcus Russell make a team this year?
I dont think so at all.. getting back into shape doesn't mean he is ready mentally for the NFL anymore
