Re: Franz Gone
I guess this offseason has been a huge success for you Matty? It's been an F from every aspect. Retaining defense and making slight changes to the offense was all we needed! Franz isn't exactly the straw that broke the camel's back though.
So it's been a huge failure then?? We've lost talented players before, Bailey last year for example, and the team plugged someone else in and moved on. The sky isn't falling because we're taking a different approach. Last season we seemd to have a different defensive lineup every week, and they never missed a beat. So will the defense fall apart without Pierce and Smoot?? I highly doubt it. Losing players, especially fan favorites like Smoot isn't fun, but if you step back and take the emotion out of it, I think you'll see losing Smoot isn't going to break the team. And it certainly isn't making the offseason a complete disaster in my opinion. |
Re: Franz Gone
Losing key players is not necessarily a driver of wins and losses, see the Pittsburgh Steelers. They lose players every single year, and yet they went to the AFC Championship this year.
Signing big-name guys is not necessarily a driver of wins and losses. We know that pretty well, look at 2000. Deion, Jeff George, Mark Carrier, Bruce Smith, and we were mediocre! The driver for wins and losses is coaching and teaching in today's NFL. You have so much player turnover these days that whoever can most effectively get their players on the same page is a step or two ahead. That takes a great coach, and you need stability in the coaching staff in order to get players on the same page, look at Belichick, Reid, and Cowher, all been with their teams for several years now. I think we've got the coaches, they're proven. Now we just need some time. It also helps to be able to draft talent and otherwise unearth it cheaply. It remains to be seen how effective we'll be in that department. I think the Skins will be better this year regardless of which players were brought in and which left. They'll be better because they're in Gibbs' second year, they have the same D coordinator as last year, and Ramsey has a year of experience in Gibbs' offense. |

Couldn't agree more. |
Re: Franz Gone
Yeah, I forgot about Lott. I'd much rather see him in his natural positon at safety, rather than trying to work him into a CB position.
What a disaster this offseason has been, Franz was a guy we absolutely needed to bring back.
Fire Gibbs! ;)
That is unlike you. You say that over Todd Franz. Come on now. Are you having a rough day? |

Re: Franz Gone
at first i was upset but now i feel pretty good about it all. we will be okay you gonna lose some and win some in free agency but i dont think we should do like we have in the past and break the bank. still wish we could unload brunnell though but hey one more year he better not touch the field.

Re: Franz Gone
You guys get all caught up in 'names'. Franz is better than Prioleau is now. :oink:
|
Re: Franz Gone
I bet Todd would feel great that we have almost 3 pages of posts about him of all people...
|
Re: Franz Gone
Pierson Prioleau was signed.
|
Re: Franz Gone
well lets hope that our weakness isnt exposed with prioleau if bowen or taylor gets injured. what we really need is a strong young cornerback
|
Re: Franz Gone
The guy IS a strong young DB. He's going to provide even MORE depth as well as a welcome back to come in and give Harris a break.
Fire him!?!?! I say fire him and burn him at the stake. Then get the pitchforks and torches and we can march up to Danny Boy's house and get him too.
