Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
If they can give out Russ Grimm's number 68 (and they did), then they can give out number 7.
I can't stand the idea of anyone wearing number 21 after Sean. A great life cut short by an evil act must be honored. |
So,i guess that Sonny's no.9 is next,no these youngsters have to respect those who made their mark while here,so being-MVP-winning a Superbowl and going back to back means nothing and if he hadn't gotten hurt Joe would've been at the helm for our other Superbowl victories...let the kid earn his stripes with another number.
The first thing Haskins said when asked about wearing #7 was I have to ask Joe Theismann. So don't worry about the lack of respect angle. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Joe was a very good but not great QB, although he was with us on some truly great teams. I feel differently about Sean Taylor -- I think his number should be locked down for the reasons everyone was acknowledged.
However, if we're concerned about karma, then don't let anyone touch 7 (or 11 for that matter). I don't like what happened to the last two guys who wore those #s. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
I don't give a damn if Dwayne Haskins wears #7.....the number hasn't been worn in 34 years out of respect for Joey T....but the number should only be worn if Joey T says it's okay for Haskins to wear it....I'm anxious to see which number Haskins will wear during rookie mini camp in a few short days.

Love him, I pretended to be him as a kid in the backyard for years. But I'll remember him just as fondly whether Haskins wears #7 or whether he wears something else. I remember Theismann for Theismann, not for the number he wore. I remember what he did more than anything, won us our first SB. That's not going to change if someone wears his number. That's why I just don't get the number fuss. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
I don't mind seeing Haskins wearing #7 either. What's the big deal? I think it's probably a better honor to learn to spell Joe Theismann's name right.

Green (28) immediately spring to mind for me. If Haskins wears #7, it won't change those memories of my childhood rooting for those teams one bit. I like the fact that his initial reaction was to say he'd need to talk to Mr. Theismann. I like that a lot and the respect it shows for the team's past. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
I have no problem with any number that is available including 21. Just do it to be the best you and not because you want to emulate JT or ST

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Per Grant Paulsen
Big #Redskins nugget: Joe Theismann says Dwayne Haskins has decided that he wants to wear No. 7. Theismann has given permission to the rookie QB to do so. Told us he just talked to him on the phone. |

That was MY number." Boo-Hoo. You don't play anymore. You don't wear a jersey. Let it go. Yes, certain exceptions apply (21). But if the only reason you want to "retire" a number is because you were "such an amazing player nobody should ever be allowed to wear that number again".... ? Give me a break. |

Gotta update my sig.

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
If a number is not retired, teams issue them out. It is that simple. If JT has issue with it, it is with the organization and not Haskins. That Haskins asked for JTs permission, was out of respect for Theisman and his contributions to the organization.
Personally, I like the behind the scenes negotiating for jersey numbers. Because it usually turns into a healthy donation by the requester to a worthy charity named by other player. Everybody wins. |
