Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
If Kyle has been the architect, then I do hope they keep him, promote him... My point was only that for the last 2-3 years nobody knew who was in charge of making the calls for the draft or free agency. And when the questions were asked, everybody always said it was just a team effort, a collective decision, etc... Somehow (maybe it was Kyle) they have done a pretty good job with the last 3 drafts. Whatever the recipe has been, I hope they continue it. If that means retain/promote Kyle, then do it.

Chief, I'd feel pretty confident stating that your football comments are top 5 on this site, among a large majority of us, if not all of us. You have a license to say whatever the eff you want to. You have a sh&t ton of credibility points available. |
Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
We’ve lost some of the top current coaches in the NFL. I’m not about to lose the best talent evaluator in the NFL (yes, he has proven to be the best).
Kyle Shanarat (fired w/ his GM/coach daddy who couldn’t pick defensive players or coaches, his downfall) Matt LaFleur left when Shanarat was fired Sean McVay came to Washington with Shanarat but was retained by Gruden Arthur Smith OC Titans, the son of Fedex founder Fred Smith, Gibbs brought him as a QC assistant for 2 years. He will probably be an NFL coach next year Kevin O’Connell will also probably be a head coach candidate next year. |
Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
It would be a surprise if Smith isn't retained but I guess that's up to Ron.
|
Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Losing Kyle Smith would be another terrible mistake by this organization.
|
Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Keep him.

Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
I can't imagine them not offering him another contract but surprised they have not done so already, along with a promotion ie. GM. Maybe he's not been a "YES MAN" for Snyder, so Dan has somewhat held him back. Still anxious to see when and what this report on Snyder shows...even if it doesn't force him out...it may push him further out on the football operations and decisions...hopefully.

Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Losing Smith would be on the same level as losing John Schneider who went on to help the Packers and then is the architect of the Seattle Seahawks last 10 year run as GM
|
Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
On the one hand re-signing him before his contract is up makes sense in avoiding seeing him poached, but on the other, with the college season messed up and so the scouting period is probably going to run onto spring, maybe Ron wants to see what plan he comes up with for the draft before re-signing him?

I'm disappointed nobody took the bait earlier but seriously this isn't a good debate. Smith has been as good, if not better, than anybody who has worked for the team in the last 30 years. He will be extended, and if he isn't my faith in Rivera will drastically plummet. |
Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Oh .. I took double take at your post but realized it was sarcastic... 😀 we need Smith

I tried to add fuel to the fire, but no one took the bite there either. |
Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
I think he'll stay on as GM.
Rivera can't do everything and Smith has proven he can handle the job. By working together Smith can focus on picking the players that mesh well with Rivera's culture and Rivera can focus on catching them. Whether or not Ron agrees with that will determine Smith's fate. |
