Re: LT Leno signs 3 year extension
Technically, there's 64 starting tackles. If he's #18 out of 64 then he's graded out in the top 30% which appears to be how he will be paid. Current salary would rank 16th out of all LTs and 23rd out of all tackles.
Seems fair for both sides. |
18 would be right in the middle right? So he is average.
It said among NFL tackles, so I'm assuming that would include left and right tackles. If that's correct, he is above average. And it's a very reasonable deal. |

Re: LT Leno signs 3 year extension
Top of the market for LT is $23m/yr, Leno is getting $12.5m/yr which in all likelihood will be a 2022 cap hit of about $6.5m with an option to release him later in yr 2/3 if they want to. Sounds like a good deal for a starting LT.

Re: LT Leno signs 3 year extension
Decent deal but I'm not a big fan. He's been playing decent but I still think he's slow and it shows at time.
Now, if our OL was healthy (or just normally injury hit instead of depleted) we would be fine with him. Envoyé de mon SHV48 en utilisant Tapatalk |
Re: LT Leno signs 3 year extension
Good move, he's been a pleasant surprise here. Just looked up his bio didn't realize he was a 7th round pick back in 2014. Makes his story even more impressive.

Re: LT Leno signs 3 year extension
He played well enough to earn that contract. Does he get beat sometimes? Yeah. That's why he's not getting paid in the top 10-20%. The good thing is there's no reason for the team to have to start over at LT or RT, and they can focus their energy on solidifying that interior.
He was one of many nice offseason additions last year. |
Re: LT Leno signs 3 year extension
Wouldn’t mind seeing Eric Flowers extended. He has 10 million cap hit next year in the last year of deal with a 0 zero cap penalty if we cut him…gives us some leverage.
Maybe do a 3 year deal extension making it a four year deal…give him some guaranteed and knock down next year cap number as well as giving us a similar out on year 4. |

He can be beat with speed to the outside but does a good job of standing in people's way, not taking penalties. Pass pro > run. I imagine we can get out after year 2 with little dead cap. My only worry is that we saw him playing at near his best this season and may not be what we get next year. Snap count -- im starting to think teams have figured out our snap count and the edge guys are just firing off the ball, especially the cowboys game 2. Some plays the edge guy is half past Leno or Cosmi before they are even having a chance to get out of their stance. If we can do better at changing it up, different cadances that would help the tackles. ------------ Im happy with the signing, we dont have to worry about LT this off season and probably are only contractually committed for 2 years vs 4 or 5. |
Re: LT Leno signs 3 year extension
Yeah Leno isn't top 5 tackle but he is no slouch, and allowing Leno go will create another hole for us to fill in the offseason. Also, the contract is very reasonable. Great move on the front office's end.
On another note, I noticed WFT has been better with creating reasonable contracts for our players ever since Rivera became head coach. |
