If the defense stays the same and the offense improves a bit (which i think it will) we'll be looking at a far better season.
Ramsey will probably get comfortable with the new wideouts....better yet, all the people we picked up want to be Redskins.....and we cut or got rid of everyone who didn't wanna be one. |
Re: THE most important off-season/season?
I believe that we took gibbs coming as starting from scratch, things are starting to go the way he wants it.. perhaps he just doesnt have all the desired pieces yet? i love patrick to death but is he gibbs ultimate choice at qb? will we see this team flourish until that spot is taken?

Re: THE most important off-season/season?
Gibbs obviously wasn't happy with the offense last year....maybe he's rebuilding it into an offense that he sees fit? We Don't exactly need awesome all-stars...just a good group of guys that play well as a team.

Re: THE most important off-season/season?
When your coach/savior is 64, every year is a big year. Expectations are starting to get blown up again and eveyrone is forgetting that it takes at least two years to turn a team like the skins around - I really don't expect much of a record this year, I will be happy with a competitive 8-8.
BUT - Its way to early to say this year is make or break, because the fact is, two years is not enough time to turn this team around. Now years 3-5 is another story. Last season was a HUGE reality check for me, I was screaming 10-6 and the playoffs! Yet is was so damn obvious that my expectations were way to unrealistic! As far as rebuilding, I mean, who doesn't do that to some extent every year?
In Gibbs first stint with the skins starting in 1981 we were 8 and 8 winning 8 of our last 11 games. In 1982 there was a strike and I would call that a throw out year as far as a building year. In 1983 we won the SB. I would not say that it takes more than two years to build a team,. We have the talent its just time to execute and get the most out of our players. Someone also mentioned that the next two years will be a salery cap hell for the skins. That has been said for years now and we have no way of knowing the stratges they have for this. If its like the past years we have dealt fine with the cap. If Snyder knows anything its how to deal with numbers. We go 10 and 6 this year winning a wild card spot. |
Re: THE most important off-season/season?
I say before we condemn the coaching staff and this up and coming season, we should actually wait and see what happens in the season first. Every season is a new season....
I say before we condemn the coaching staff and this up and coming season, we should actually wait and see what happens in the season first. Every season is a new season....
I don't understand all the doubt that I see on this site from several posters. I hope the players don't have this same feeling. If the skins, are truley their team you would think they would be more optimistic about our chances this year. We have a QB with high confidence, praticing with starting squad all camp, one more year expereince. Our WR's if you go by last year stats scored twice as many TD's and had more combind yards (Thats comparing Rod & coles to Moss & Patten). Our D should be just as good as last year with Williams still running the show. Our special teams should be great with all the new players we have brought in who can play special teams. Our coaching staff is in its second year with no loss to personell. The only thing we lost was big toe Coles, one year wonder Pierce, and just a good CB that took awhile for a team to pick up. I did not even bring up the changes that we are making on the offence to help spread the field to help Potis and the D's from stacking the line. Like Portis just said if they want to play the run we will go deep on them if they want to play pass I'll run on them. This will not be the same offense we saw last year Gibbs is much better than that and he will not show his cards so we realy don't know whats going on.

Re: THE most important off-season/season?
Some say they're just keepin' it real. If you're too optimistic, then you're just drinking the kool-aid.
In all fairness, I think those who question every move our team makes are just keeping their expectations low so they won't feel so deprived at the end of the season. I can understand not being very positive when we've had only one playoff season in about 12 years, however, every season is a new season. We've debated last season not only into the ground, but passed the ground and even passed the core of this very Earth! most of us, even the doubters, have agreed to dismiss last season as a learning experience, knock the dust off year for Joe Gibbs. All I'm say is, let's actually look forward to the season, forget about picking this and that part, and just concentrate on a brand new season. |
Re: THE most important off-season/season?
In two weeks we will all get to see what the new skins have to offer...

Re: THE most important off-season/season?
I'm optimistic and looking for the Skins to improve this year.......I didnt say superbowl just improve
1. our line should be better 2. our defense was good and this year even without Smoot and Pierce I think Williams will work his magic and find adequate replacements from current roster players....... 3. We got a reliable WR in Patten and I think Jacobs will emerge The key to this year's season is RAMSEY.............. |
