Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
We all know it's about his ego... He was the best wideout last year and he wants to be payed like a top ten wr. He doesn't want the encentive based contract that he has now.
I've seen him play well in SF, while not getting along with Garcia. The eagles will end up getting rid of him next season. |

This year, he is scheduled to receive $3.25 million in base salary, and $250,000 in incentive bonus (generally thought to be easily achievable). Next April, he is scheduled to receive an additional $7.5 million in bonus money. If he were to play three years for the Philadelphia Eagles, his income for that period would exceed $21 million. Only two players (Marvin Harrison and Randy Moss) have contracts that exceed that compensation. The claim that Terrell Owens is underpaid is posturing by his agent. |
Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
I think Terrell is pandering to the media heads with all his "whoa is me" verbiage, but in reality this guy is doing irreparable damage to his situation. He has confronted publicly three of the most important offensive figures on that team (McNabb, Reid and Childress). How can he assimilate back into the club house after this act he's pulling? My guess, though it's mere speculation like the title suggests, is he plays this year, is off & on the injury list and says his goodbye after the season. However, what team would want to take this baggage? Has there ever been a player with this much talent who is scorned around the league? Maybe Reggie Jackson is his hey day but other than that no.

Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
They got through the end of the season and the playoffs without TO--that's gotta be influencing their thinking. To my mind, there's no WAY the iggles are the one to cave here. But if TO makes any sort of gesture of apology (no likely) they'll probably be ready to talk. But I agree--it's just gonna start up again. McNabb's been a mellow about it so far (compartively speaking), but he must be pissed as hell. Who are the iggles going to side with? McNabb of course. And now Reid is pissed as well. Why bring him back?
Bye, TO. |

Completely agree. So he thinks that sitting out is "helping his family"? Let's look at the consequences of these actions: 1. Even though Reid dismissed him, he'll likely be fined by the league and/or have to give some money back if he breaches his contract officially. 2. Who in their right mind's would want to sign a whiner like him? Say he puts up even higher numbers for someone else? Would he want a new contract then? 3. He's already proven to be a team disruption and this circus is not helping it. What team would want this kind of publicity? |
Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
I am sure there are a dozen teams that would try and put up with him. Why? I don't know. But the only way that this is mended is the only way it's ever worked with Owens. He gets his way.
If the Eagles stick to their guns, look for a suspended Terell Owens for this season and released in the offseason. Now the Eagles have desparate offensive problems though, their top 3 WRs from last season are gone (Mitchell) injured (Pinkston) and disgruntled (Owens) then their top TE retired (Lewis) and the #1 RB on their roster is a holdout (Westbrook). Can Donovan lead them to the promise land again with Buckhalter and Greg Lewis? |
Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
And the answer is no.
Can they still be a playoff caliber team? Yes, but if this happens be prepared for the NFC East to be a much closer race than was previously thought. Without ANY WRs to speak of to plan on, teams can key on Westbrook and it's game over. |
Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
kingerock, I agree with your assessment. Westbrook has, however, ended his holdout. Due to his short period of service in the league, he had to report 30 days before his first game, or lose the season as time accrued towards free agency. He reported exactly 30 days before his opening game.

Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
Offensively this team scares no one w/ out Terrell. Westbrook's skill and ability is predicated on a spread, down field approach where Donovan can check off receivers who draw line backer and secondary coverage. You can single up every one of the WR's and have a LB spy him. Plus losing Chad Lewis to retirement is going to hurt more than they're willing to accept. He is quite familiar with the scheme and was consistent; LJ Smith is as inconsistent as they come.
I also think the Eagles FO are doing themselves a disservice by using last year's playoff run as a measuring stick. The NFC '04 playoff was weaker than ever. Minnesota's team was a joke. They beat an overwhelmed Green Bay team and had more issues than countable. The Falcons were a solid squad but had a suspect offensive scheme and were quite lucky in the final 8 games. By this assessment I'm stating that to say "we got there without TO, we don't need him now" is a lark. They need him more than he needs them to be honest. |
Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
Well they need him, and it hurts me to say this, but they also need Pinkston. As big of a pussy as he is, he still averaged a HUGE number of YPC. With your #1 and #2 receivers out, your starting RB only caring about money and your TE retiring, this might not be as easy a road back to the Bowl as many would have thought.

Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
I say we go after him try to trade for him. maybe give a few 1st round picks for him. im joking i would never want anyone like that on the skins. Its good hes a eagle so he can ruin that team.

Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
I don't see how a QB and WR who don't like or trust each other can play together. The instant Owens THINKS that DM is avoiding throwing the ball to him (even if Donavan isn't) the shit's gonna hit the fan. NO WAY this can work.
Didn't TO campaign to play here? Didn't he spurn the Baltimore Felons to play here? Do any of you think that the fact that D. Rosenhaus receives no money from TO's current deal has anything to do with any of this?? Hmmmmm. I wonder. Agents are servents of the devil. |

yup just proves how unhappy he is and what a freak show that team really is, i thought i saw a bearded lady in the backround of one of those videos |

Exactly my friend exactly Just as you said that you would never want anyone like that, most of the teams said the same thing last year. Very few teams were interested in a guy that was such a dick to his QB. I mean c'mon it was Baltimore that was desperate for an offense and the eagles who were desperate to make it to the superbowl. Just remeber how the eagles were posing and taking pictures with TO at the probowl. They wanted this guy and they got the guy all of the good and the bad, they got their wish and made it to the superbowl and TO did everything a WR could do in the superbowl. Now they are dealing with the bad, i don't think they are handling this like a good front office or team because a good front office or team wouldn't have such a loony training camp. Westbrook is unhappy, i forgot about simon in all of this shit and TO is acting like an ass. No way are their FO doing a better job than anyother team. I was pissed when they stole TO from Baltimore and TO was desperate to sign. Clearly the true winner was the Eagles getting TO for possibly a cheaper price than they would had they fairly aquired him in through a trade or FA. PAY BACK IS A BITCH AIN'T IT! TO is has little respect for that team, i mean how can he tell one of the coaches not to talk to him until he talks to the coach. I have never heard such lack of respect. I am not scared of TO as much as I am of his value in a trade. I doubt a trade will happen but if the eagles are a good team they will sit his ass down. Just see how we handled Coles, it never broke open, it was over as soon as it started, we took a shot for the sake of having a good moral team. |
Re: SPECULATE: How can T.O. play with the Eagles this year?
This is the way i see it playing out: The eagles won't give in to his demands, he'll come back in a week, practice, and play during the preseason. Then when it gets to the regular season he's gonna have two options:
(A) sit at home until he gives in, says he's sorry for all the trouble he's caused, or (B) come in, shut the fuck up, play for the season without any complaints. After the season if the cap hit isn't bad the eagles will dump his ass. During free agency it might go something like this: (A) Nobody wants him because he's not worth it, and he'll retire, or (B) a desperate team signs him, then gets into a whole lot of shit with him and the process will start all over again. |
