This is from GW's recent chat on ExtremeSkins

"....I do have to take a look at every opportunity that comes along for the betterment of my family, but I can tell you that being a Washington Redskin right now is the most important thing on our minds, because we want our kids to finish school here and enjoy having roots here in Virginia and the Washington DC area. It'll be easy---I can say no and I will say no. I said no last year to opportunities to be a head coach again."
Translation:
Someone will have to blow him out of the water in terms of money before he'll take a HC job becasue essentially he doesn't care as much about being a HC as he does about rooting his family. Does anyone think someone is going to offer more than Snyder will be willing to pay to keep him?
This is the guy that Gibbs basically tied himself too when he decided to come back. Unless he and Gibbs have a falling out Gibbs is gonna want to keep him around at almost any cost.
He's gotta also know that he is straight up in line for the HC job here when Gibbs hangs it up plus he is getting mad props on a daily basis around the league. He isn't in any hurry to get out of here. Thank god.
Actually it happens all the time.

Not all head coaches that are fired up end back as a head coach right away.
Or ever again for that matter.

i for one do not want greg williams as head coach of the redskins.he is an excellent d coordinator, but that doesnt translate into sucess as the head coach(see norv)i think what williams accomplished in buffalo in his short time there should be sending up a warning flag to the skins

I have mixed feelings about it. I mean he could be a Bill Belichick you know, and have great success the second time around. I wouldn't just annoint him the successor but I'd definitely put him on short list

One thing about Gibbs is his coaching tree hasn't had quite the same success as Walsh's or Parcells'. Though the advantage Williams has is that he has been there before

True but people can improve on their second stint as head coach. Look at Bellichek for example. Since he's learning from one of the best coaches ever his chances for improvement are very good

Re: Greg Williams

If you look at what williams had to work with in buffalo, and you look at the personell he brougth in, and then you add experience of working with Gibbs, and Bugel, and Breaux... I think he'll be okay. On top of that, he's got the D he built basically from the ground up, and a new offense thats suitable for a hall of fame coach... If I were in his position, I may stick around and try to take over if we start winning. After all, its no secret that we're the best opportunity to make long term money if he is a success.

Re: Greg Williams

I don't see Gregg Williams going anywhere for all the reasons most of the people have said to emphasize, Gibbs has made it no secret that his time here will be limited, which Williams would be willing to wait. He loves the players, the staff he has on defense, the HC he works for, his family in the DC area, and he is making more money than some HC in the league or right at it, which program can he take over where a coach is going to be fired if the organization is not in shambles. He is having his say as well in helping develop this team for the future which only makes more evident that he will succeed Gibbs.

Re: Greg Williams

We all remember Belichick as coach of the Browns, and now as coach of the Patriots.

But anyone else remember that odd scenario where he spent three years as top assistant to Parcells with the Jets. Then when Parcells resigned he was like and now, as planned, I'm handing the reigns over to Belichick. And the next day Belichick was like you know what I changed my mind. I'd rather make my own mark somewhere else.

Anyone worry that might happen with GW?

Re: Greg Williams

Not really worried whether that would happen w/GW to be honest. I would love for him to stay.

What would worry me more is if he took Blache, Lindsay and a few others. If he leaves and they stay, I think the defense can maintain a lot of it's core philosphy and schemes. I'm more worried that there would be an exodus of the assistants more than anything else.

Yea I just hope we don't loose Coy Gibbs. He's done a tremendous job keeping the coffee warm.
