Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
There's a good chance someone already said this, I didn't read all the posts, BUT....
I just hope our punter doesn't get his nose smashed into his face again. I almost lost my pumpkin pie when that happened to Barker on Thanksgiving a few years ago. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
I'm sure some cable companies will add the NFL network to their choices (assuming the direct tv contract is non-exclusive) but it wont be for free. I suspect in 10 years the NFL network will carry all of the games.
I suspect that in ten years all games will be on a pay-per-view basis. Moving the games away from the Networks to an NFL owned property is a prelude to this. Advertizing revenue will not be large enough to sustain the growth that the owners have become accustomed to. The success of the Sunday ticket will encourage them to begin marketing a team's entire schedule and also individual games. I believe there was a recent court ruling as well which may force cable companies to sell channels on and individual basis rather than as a set package. This trend towards a-la-carte programming will mean more choice but not lower costs (as I suspect some naive consumers believe). For instance you may be able to enjoy games on a television, a computer, or a portable device with fewer commercials but at a higher cost. Hopefully they will supplement the games with expanded interactive, multimedia, coverage such as what is available on Redskins.com presently. Marketers are skilled at using things like this to make it seem like good deal when in reality we will be paying for what was previously free. I myself would be williing to pay if there were no ads. During our two playoff games it was hard catching a play or two between the two hours of commercials. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
i love catching the shortcuts of other teams games (and the skins too of course), I can catch up on who we're playing next in 23minutes... you miss some pre-snap stuff and ome replays which kinda sucks, but it is a pretty good compromise of fitting a 3.5 hour game into a small time investment.

Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
Just out of curiosity, who's the play-by-play team for the NFL Network? Do they have a team already?
|
Just out of curiosity, who's the play-by-play team for the NFL Network? Do they have a team already?
I don't think so. They have several possibilities. Emmit, Terrell, Mike Mayock, Woodson, Linc. Solomon Wilcots already work there and would be adequate color men. For play by play they would need to bring someone in. Their studio hosts are Rich Eisen and Paul Burmeister. I don't know if they could do it. If they are serious about this they need a first rate crew. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
i would suspect that cable providers will be lining up to pick up the NFL network with 8 games on it next season. That's a lot of football that people will pay for. I would think it would be added next to the ESPN and Fox Sports channels though rather than a premium.
I have the NFL network and I get the NFL ticket every year, so I wont miss it, but I fail to believe that a smart Time Warner and Comcast wont pick that up. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
I dont think this will happen because I just read an article about Tags and it seems he fears having the NFL get overexposed by having too many games on throughout the week (like MLB, NBA, NHL, etc). Like us, he enjoys the build-up and thinks that build-up is great for the league.
When I first heard this idea I wondered HOW they could have mid-week games. You'll get too many mismatches with one team extremely rested and another tired from playing on Tuesday or what not. Even the game after a MNF game shows a big drop in play, another day in there would kill the intensity of the game! |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
Update from today's dallasnews.com
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/football/nfl/stories/020406dnsposuperdate.21741ca9.html "Cowboys' Thanksgiving game is staying put: Tagliabue said the Cowboys' Thanksgiving game will remain on network television, contrary to a report recently that the league wanted to put the Cowboys against Washington in the night game on NFL Network. The Cowboys would prefer to keep their 3:15 kickoff. The league releases its schedule in April." |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
yah Tag-li-a-buuuuu said that they will add one more thanksgiving game and it will move around the league. This etra game will be on NFL network. Detriot and Dallas will keep there thanksgiving advantages for now.

Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
I heard miami
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
detroit and dallas get it every year. its tradition. the brand new third game could be anyone though.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
KC did thanksgiving games before the merger.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
i wanna see the redskins host a thanksgiving day game.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
Guys. We do not play Dallas on Thanksgiving. That was an article posted in January and the schedule came out for turkey day and we are not on it.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
ATTENTION EVERYONE:
We're not playing Dallas on Thanksgiving. Hope that's cleared up now. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
Hey, I hope the Skins don't play any of their late December games on the NFL Network. I don't have it or live in the D.C. area. I would not be able to watch it. I have Charter Cable and if they don't get the NFL Network back by this Fall, they will be losing me as a customer.

Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
I know that this may sound a little stuck up or snobbish, but why dont you all get directv. It is actually cheaper than cable, at least where I live anyway. And that BS about poor quality during bad weather is false. Over the past year and a half I can count on one hand how many times my sattelite picture was out and I still wouldnt even use all of my fingers. And for those of you live out of state Directv provides NFL Sunday Ticket. That is how I survive the season. Now if you still live at home with your parents and are watching their TV, then you are just going to have to suck it up until you move out on your own. You could of coarse get a job and ask permission to hook up DTV for yourself, but when I was a teenager I had better things to do with my money. But now that I'm married I don't have to pay for it anymore. Actually that's not true I pay for it everyday, it just so happens that it is not cash I am spending on it now. Than God for a wife with a job!

Sunday Ticket is the greatest product ever invented. But then again, I'm biased. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
This may not necessarily be deserving of its own thread, but I couldn't help but notice this:
"The NFL will place eight prime-time Thursday and Saturday games on its NFL Network starting in 2006, a senior league executive said. The schedule is made up of games that would have been on Saturdays late in the season on CBS or Fox, or on those networks' regional schedules, said the executive, who was granted anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the deal. The first game will be on Thanksgiving night, between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins." I don't think that's right. I think it's Dallas and the Bucs |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006
We are going to put a serious beat down on Dallas and you will have much to be thankful for!
Really, I think they changed this. Look it up. I'm almost sure Dallas is playing the Bucs... |
Really, I think they changed this. Look it up. I'm almost sure Dallas is playing the Bucs...
That's true. Originally, we were supposed to play Dallas on the NFL Network. But FOX decided that they weren't gonna take the Kansas City game. So instead of FOX taking Dallas-Washington, they chose Dallas-Tampa Bay. That left the KC game for NFL Network and we aren't on their schedule. I'm guessing they gave us the opening MNF to make up for it. Cool by me. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006...Not Happening (rumor just a rumor)
i remember all the old thanksgiving day games against the cowboys.i wish we would start that again because it added to the rivalry.i think alot of our younger fans arent as intense for their hatred of the cowboys as they should be

I am not sure if Direct TV is cheaper in my area or not. You see they have this little rule that you have to have their "box" on all of your TVs and you have to pay $4.99 per box per month for the 2nd box and up. I have a family of four and there are 4 TVs in my house. That means an extra $15 a month just to have TVs hooked up. On cable I can hook up 8 TVs if I have enough wall jacks and it is still the same price. Does anyone know if you can hook up to Direct TV without one of their "boxes" once you have the first TV hooked up? |

Yeah you can hook other tv's up by getting a splicer, the downside is that lets say you have a reciever in your bedroom and your son/daughters room is next to yours and they want tv also, you can splice the cable and run a line to there room but they will have to watch whatever you are watching, they can not turn the channel with out going into your room... |

Yep, I was going to post exactly this but 8588 took the words right out of my mouth. Trying to splice like that basically defeats the entire purpose of having different TVs. The whole reason you have different TVs is to watch different things. If you've got that many TVs, DirecTV can get pricey. |

I can just see me explaining a Direct TV remote to them?! Right now they know how to turn the TV on and get to the Disney Channel and that works for them! Oh Well, some day!. Maybe Charter Communication will come around before next Fall and bring the NFL Network back. They dropped it around Dec 1 2005 and I drop their Sports Tier right after that! |
Re: Redskins vs. Cowboys Thanksgiving 2006...Not Happening (rumor just a rumor)
I am not sure if you can get it but Dish Network has the NFL Network on it now and I know that you can run 2 tvs off of 1 receiver with each tv watching a totally different station. But if you live out of the DC area then you will only get whatever games are on your locals and primetime.
