Re: 70Chip Presents the #56Fanatic "Does LaVar Deserve Special Treament" Poll
I'm one of the one's who voted NO, BUT do you think that LaVar should give the REDSKINS special treatment when it comes to restructuring his contract to help out the team?
Well, he's the one saying how much he loves it here and how he wants to be here for the rest of his career. Let's see if he puts his money where his mouth is. |
Re: 70Chip Presents the #56Fanatic "Does LaVar Deserve Special Treament" Poll
My answer was actually yes he should, because there's no I in team. ;)
Just wanted to see what people would say... |
Re: 70Chip Presents the #56Fanatic "Does LaVar Deserve Special Treament" Poll
I do agree though. He's bothered me enough this year with his emotional crap that I'd be OK with him leaving. The only reason I'd want him to stay is talent ONLY, not for cap reasons or anything else.
However, if he took a pay cut to stay a Redskin, he'd have my full support and again be one of my favorite Redskins. |

Under the new collective bargaining agreement, that will change. GO TEIM! |

I wanna know how many times a Redskin should have to restructure his contract? wtf? Why do they even give them out if they have no intention of living up to them...ever?! |
Re: 70Chip Presents the #56Fanatic "Does LaVar Deserve Better" Poll
I dont remember people feeling that way when Thrash went to the Eagles, or when Trent Green was sent packing. The difference here is simply that Lavar has not earned his paycheck for two years and the Skins have to deal with the salary cap. People tend to stand behind the guys that work thier ass off, keep thier mouth shut, and don't complain about thier paycheck (i.e those two guys I mentioned above). Lavar, for all his talent, is guilt of breaking at least two of these three football fan rules.
Again, as mentioned, these things are why fans have different opinions about the Lavar release and why your statement about the fans turning on Lavar after his release my become true. I just believe that if it does, it is his fault.
I didn't care at all when Thrash left becaue he had half of a decent season. And I know I wasn't a member of this site, if it existed, when Trent Green left. Anyway, what about Stephen Davis or Champ or the way a lot of fans were on board with Brad Johson getting pushed out the door? What about all the negativity toward Smoot and Pierce? It started to happen last offseason before Samuels got his new deal. That's pretty much where LaVar is right now. All of a sudden he sucks because he makes a lot of money and if he doesn't restructure than he's not a team player. That's pretty retarded. |

That's the name of the game in today's NFL. Show me one team that actually pays out the full terms of a contract with no restructures. |

they still pay them all the money in a restructure but they just get it at a later time |
they still pay them all the money in a restructure but they just get it at a later time
The only part they end up getting is the signing bonus, unless they stay for the entire lenght of the contract. Which with any player who is half way decent they never get the back end of the deal, that why they restructure it because by the time they get to back end, it cost to much to keep them. so its either restructure, or SEE YA, DONT LET THE DOOR HIT YA WHERE THE GOOD LORD SPLIT YA |

Did you miss the point? The point was that players who are wrapped up in the money (i.e. 6.5 million) are not going to stay on the fans top priority list... just like Smoot, Pierce, Champ. If you leave for or complain about money, expect the cold shoulder from the fan base. The players that are just playing as hard as they can will get more support. You can call Dan Snyder a lot of things, but tight-wad isn't one of them. Lavar doesn't suck. In fact, I think he may be ready to have his best season if he stays. For a lot of fans, the real question is can we afford him at his salary, at the expense of the team as a whole, when we know the defense can excel without him. |
Re: 70Chip Presents the #56Fanatic "Does LaVar Deserve Special Treament" Poll
Maybe Snyder can have all the players re-sign for the veteran minimum and then make it up by paying them 10 million to appear on his media shows during the season. Is there any rule against that?
|
Re: 70Chip Presents the #56Fanatic "Does LaVar Deserve Special Treament" Poll
I think LaVar will be willing to restructure, however, that doesn't mean he'll stay a Redskin past next season. Just like Stephen Davis. LaVar dropped his grievance, so I don't think that he's necessarily "wrapped up in the money."
I did, however, miss the point of your first post. |

no, the player gets it immediately, the team is just allowed to pro rate it over the rest of the length of the contract for cap purposes. |

steven davis wanted 10mill a year to stay, who'd agree to that? his agent was being stupid. since then he had 1 good year and now looks like he's done and likely to be dropped for good. I didn't really like champ while he was here, but i didn't hate him for leaving, he got 15million more to go to the broncos. And i'd trade for portis any day, there's no regret on my part there. I didn't think rogers or marshall would be as good as pierce and smoot this year... turns out they both were. Smoot again got more money, but pierce left cause he rather play in NY, so i was a bit miffed at that. I don't think most people are saying that lavar sucks, his contract is just too big right now and someone's gotta go. That' the reality of the salary cap. |

yes, though i guess you could launder money through sponsors that are cooperative, but it'd be easy to spot (due to the size of transactions) and blow up in your face almost every time. |

no. this isnt your dad's little league team lavar. Put up, and shut up.

LA has been a good (not great) LB but has not lived up to expectations. Like everyone, I thought he was going to be the LT of his era, it did not happen this way. I have to vote no.

"Does LaVar Deserve Special Treament" Poll

Does LaVar deserve a fair shot once again at the greatness we know he posesses? Yes. Does he deserve special treatment? No. In my opinion, LaVar still has a lot of good years left that are going to go to somebody. They should go to the 'Skins. If he can stay healthy in the knees, he can and will be a threat to anyone else's offense. LaVar is the kind of player that radiates Redskin Greatness. He is a franchise type guy who I believe is willing to try to make things work at his expense. What I fear is that if the free agency gets pushed to April, this will effect how his contract could legally be restructured in order to handle his bonuses on a pro-rated schedule. If this happens, the Redskins may have no choice but to move LaVar out... As with most unfortunate things in life, it comes down to the bank account of the Team, and if there will be enough dollars to go around. I would think that with a high-profile player with the talents of LaVar, he would want to know where he is headed at this point in the off-season. I believe that neither LaVar nor the Redskins could keep any deal a secret for very long based on track history. At any rate, LaVar will always be considered a Redskin great in my book, and special treatments aside, he will help the Redskins if they can find a way to keep him in camp.
