Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

QB Tommy Maddox

WR Brandon Lloyd

CB Charles Woodson or R.W. McQuarters (special teams)

DE Jon Abraham

OL Jeff Backus

K Vinatieri

Any of these players especiall at WR or CB would please me. Feel free to disagree or add to this

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition
he knows the style of offense, and i think he could contribute, but would you rather go after someone else?
Not really. Randle-El is a hot commodity and will be way overpriced when all is said and done. I don't want Antonio Bryant, he's a cancer. Jurevicius would be alright, but he's been in west coast offenses, not our style of offense. I'm not interested in Koren Robinson, he's not a Gibbs guy. Brandon Lloyd is restricted and I wouldn't want to give up any of our precious draft picks for him. I think I'd like Givens about as much as I'd like Bruce, between them it would come down to price for me.

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition
I agree wholeheartedly, so who are some guys like that?
I don't think that fans can pick out the bargains like Griffin and Washington. We're more familiar with players who have been publicized. Chris Hope and Randel El have been mentioned here because their team won the Super Bowl. They're both good players you'd like to have but unlikely to be bargain deals.

I'd throw Moulds into that mix too. I know he supposedly had problems in Buff. last year, but he was never a malcontent before and I think the Buffalo offense and/or coaching staff had real problems last year. He is about the same age as Bruce and was a first tier WR for a long time. If he gets cut, and the price is right, then my I would go with Givens first then Bruce or Moulds then Randle-El.
I TOTALLY disagree with this. Bruce knows our system, he played under Martz for several years who is a disciple of the Gibbs offense. The guy could come right in and run solid routes for us. I wouldn't pay a lot for him because as you say he is old, but he is still an effective receiver. It was only one year ago that he had 89 catches and 1292 yards. Last year he missed 5 games, got nagged by injuries all season, and Martz was sidelined. I wouldn't pay a lot for him given that we could get a David Givens for pretty cheap, but Bruce would be able to come in and assimilate our offense very quickly. He knows the Saunders style offense already.
Not only did he play under Martz but he was a perennial Pro-Bowler under Al Saunders. So they have a good history together. For the right price he's a perfect fit here.

probowler under saunders eh? I DO like the cut of THAT jib.

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

I'm wary about Koren Robinson because he drops so many balls. I know he had a resurgence last year, but I'm not sure he's the most reliable to be our #2.

Randle-El really is a #1 guy. He's that good. He would have a breakout year like Santana did for us if he was a # 1 somewhere. I'd be surprised to seem him leave the Steelers though.

I think Isaac Bruce can still play. He had a decent season last year and that's with him being hurt part of the season as well as Bulger. His ship hasn't sailed just yet.

I'd just like another guy that could stretch the field. Antonio Bryant seems like an intriguing project. I wonder if he really does want to prove himself and a bit of redemption or if he really is just a mess.

i dont think randle-el should HAVE to be a #1 guy. we have that in moss. i agree with wheover thinks that the super bowl will drive the price up on randle-el but i WOULD like to have him for the right price.

Huddle 03-09-2006 09:52 AM

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

My bet is that the Skins don't go for a WR in free agency. I think Al Saunders will want to add another pass receiver at the TE slot. There are several good prospects at that position in the draft.

PSUSkinsFan21 03-09-2006 09:54 AM

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

Any chance we could afford Jurivicous AND Bruce/Givens? Could you imagine that starting trio? Moss, Bruce/Givens and Jurivicous as the possession and red-zone guy? Not sure what the cap is, but I'd be all for dropping Patten to get this combo.

As for KR, I need to see him stay on the straight and narrow for another solid year before I'd even look at him.

PWNED 03-09-2006 09:55 AM

id prefer a pass BLOCKER at the TE slot.

That is just rediculous. Pay a guy a few million dollars for a year, he retires, then we are stuck w/ his dead money the next year or two. We do not need another 30 something year old receiver. we have two already

Randel-el is more hype than anything else. He had mediocre numbers (even when considering his team) and a stellar reputation because of a superbowl and thowing touchdown passes. Randel-el at a good price would be nice, but he's looking for money. If he wasn't looking for big bucks he wouldn't leave the steelers so theres really no extra incentive to be a redskin. Quite frankly I think patten is a better wide-out then Randel-el.

Bruce is old but proved effecient even last year. Someone mentioned about about him and saunders as well. Looks like it's going to happen, but we'll see.

I agree 100% about Randel-El.. He's a decent #2, but nowhere close to a #1.. I've been very vocal about wanting Givens with Bruce and Moulds as secondary options at #2.

So where did you hear that Bruce is planning on retiring after next year? Because I didn't see that article, perhaps you could link it here? That's a ridiculous assumption to make.

You know what we really need? A WR to come here and make an impact, take pressure off Santana Moss, and gel right away with our offense. His familiarity with Al Saunders makes him the perfect fit.

I'm not saying break the bank for the guy, but he's the best available option for us.

HE IS 34. ARE WE BRING BACK GEORGE ALLEN AND GETTING THE OVER THE HILL GANG BACK TOGETHER!! WHY PAY A 34 YEAR OLD GUY WHEN THERE ARE YOUNGER, FASTER, BIGGER, MORE PRODUCTIVE, AND ALL IN ALL BETTER RECEIVERS ON THE MARKET. YOU PEOPLE ARE BASING IT ON HIS NAME AND PREVIOUS YEARS STATISTICS. HE WAS HURT LAST YEAR, NOT VERY PRODUCTIVE OTHER GAMES. I AM NOT SAYING HE WOULDN'T BE SERVICABLE, BUT REALLY, WHY NOT MOULDS, BIGGER(WHICH WE NEED) A LITTLE YOUNGER. WHY NOT JEVON WALKER, HE IS BIGGER, BETTER, 7 YEARS YOUNGER. YOU MIGHT AS WELL GO FOR RANDEL EL, HES THE SAME PLAYER, SIZE AND SPEED WISE.

All caps really is unnecessary. I agree that we should consider age, but that can't be a deciding factor. You can't deny that consistent receivers can have great careers after the age of 34. Does production decrease? absolutley. However someone with a performance as consistent as Moulds or Bruce...it's hard to argue they wouldn't contribute to the team with great success. We're not asking him to be a #1 receiever. We're asking him to be an threat. Andre Reed for example had approx 800 yds his 13th and 14th seasons for BUFF. Jerry Rice produced solid numbers for 19 seasons! Don't brush off Bruce yet.

Besides, not only are you yellin and most definitely not gellin, but you're also not making any sense. How can you crap on Bruce for being 34, and then turn around and advocate for Eric Moulds, who is 33?? And I have no idea why you keep saying Isaac Bruce is small, he's 6'0"!!!

If we're going to get particular, Bruce won't actually turn 34 until November 10. And, interesting to note, that the last 4 years his YPC have gone up each year while Moulds' have gone down.
