I believe our biggest threats year in and year out come from our division. We went out and signed two good receivers and the Giants signed two to three corners and safeties.
5-6 CBs and 2 safeties ;) |

At least we know of one team that takes us serious. |
Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
I'm not too worried about the Giants. Someone mentioned that the front seven is scary but that's assuming the addition of LA proves fruitful. Eli looked like he took a step backwards in his development towards the end of last year. Toomer, Strahan and Barber are no spring chickens: I said this about Barber for the last 3 years and he always shows me up. Plaxico seems to play when he wants to.
Also, all of these new guys on defense better be able learners if they want to function smoothly as a team when the season starts. Otherwise, they'll have a bunch of out of position DB's loking at each other shrugging their shoulders as CLEMP blows by 'em. Dallas could have the worst team ever but they would still give us fit, same with the Eagles. Carolina's D shows up every game but their offensive doesn't. Tampa has to rely on Simms performing spectacularly more often than not. Atlanta will be a better team if Vick realizes that he's not going to make things happen every play. Patience, Mike, patience. Seattle has already heard their "Give Me One Moment In Time" song. The loss of Hutchison will sting as will Jurevicious. |
Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
Chris Simms plays a lot better when he doesn't have Cornelius Griffin and Sean Taylor to deal with. Getting sufficient pressure on him was all we needed to beat the Buccaneers in the first matchup last year. It didn't happen, and he picked us apart. I believe Tampa Bay is a force to be reckoned with.
Now, fill me in on the Giants -- who did they pick up in the secondary? Obviously they were concerned with how Brunell and Moss carved them up in the second matchup last year. |
Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
I hate Chris Simms more than I hate most players in the league. That little "bring it on" gesture made me want to throat-punch him.

Or just use a chainsaw to take off his arm and punch him in the throat with his own "bring it on" arm.

We do what we can here, we do what we can.
And Joe really did that last year. Not that I have an opinion on it, but it was pretty funny. |

Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
Everytime I read the title of this thread, I see biggest "TREATS" in the NFC. For me, that would be the Skins cheerleaders.

Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
I agree, these are six division games, no other games are more important than winning in your own division and the NFC East is shaping up once again to be the toughest division in the NFL.
I also think that if we arent winning in the division its also a mental blow. I think it hurts more than normal to lose to the cowboys/giants/eagles, and if you cant win division games I think a team can get frustrated. ...not that any of this is going to happen of course. 16-0! |

Now that you've written that I can only see biggest TEATS in the NFC.... and I still agree! (I hope that wasn't over the line, sorry for any offense) |
Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
The Giants shouldn't scare anyone. Dallas, Carolina, and Seattle are the only clubs that will be able to hang with the Skins.

I wish that was easier said than done. This season is gonna be full of battles. The Giants are gonna be able to bring it and don't forget if Mcnabb is healthy the Eagles still won't be a pushover. i hate them with a passion just like the rest of the division, but lets not under estimate our opponents this early. Remember we were picked to win it all in 2000 and finished only a mere 8-8. We already have proven we can hang and we are winners, now we just got to prove we can take the next step and i believe we can do it. Skins-fo-life |
I think the NY Giants will be toughest D to handle this year and the Panthers O will give our D their biggest headache this year. But other than that I think the colts will have the best O we will face this year hands down.
Weak run blocking line, with a rookie runningback or even worse, Dominic Rhodes. By the time week 8 rolls around, no one in the league will respect that rushing game. |
Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
To me the Seattle Seahawks are the team to beat. They won the NFC; they were the best last year. They have probably gained in strength overall in the offseason; they have the experience of playing all the way through the Super Bowl this past year.
To me the Redskins are the top challengers; our improvement has been notable with free agent pickups and our trade. I think the Redskins will win the Super Bowl this year, but the Seahawks definitely are the strongest barrier for us in the NFC in my book. |

How in the hell did they manage to 1) Sign Alexander to a long term contract 2) Sign Burleson to that STUPID huge contract and 3) Get Peterson? |

cause, like the eagles, they have a stupid amount of cap room and good depth. Its what happens when you build through the draft and don't have top 10 picks every year. the burleson deal is only 4mill a year, its only stupid if he stayed in minnesota. peterson is 7mill a year, but if they kept hutchinson, he would have gotten the money instead. peterson was the stupid contract. they could have offered a lot less and still have been clearly in the lead to get him. |
Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
Well, hopefully none of those pan out because it looks like they're stuck with some people for a while.

Can you guess who that might be?

Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
Haha. Very true, but it doesn't seem like the Seahawks did the creative contracts that we did.
|
Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
Carolina Panthers and the Cow-sissies by far!
|
Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
You think the Cowboys are a big threat in the NFC?
|
Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
The Giants are the biggest threat, by far... and not just because they recently signed LA, either. They were the division champs last year - the only team in the division that we lost a game to last year. The team has not degraded, in fact, an argument can be made that they have improved.
All of the division games will always be tough, but the Giants are the biggest threat in the division and since we play them twice, they'll be the biggest threat in the NFC. |
Re: Biggest threats in the NFC
In the East, I would say the Giants, I think we both improved, but we improved more.
