I do agree JC needs time in a game but its just too early in the season for him and we don't even know what they see in him at pratice. Some great and loyal fans around here giving up on the season already. Probably were on here last year in week 12 when we were 5-6 talking all this same trash. It ain't over 'til it's over.
I will never give up till they are eliminated... NO WAY is this season over.....We Can still make the playoffs ..... |

If you put Campbell in now, you risk destroying his tree of confidence with all the tree boring worms that fans will pour onto him in the thousands when he fails to play with extraordinary effectiveness. Right now Campbell's confidence tree needs to get stronger and taller before he is ready to go. I am amazed with the grace that Mark Brunell holds up under the antipathy sent at him. Even an experience player like him is going to be effected by all that criticism and lack of support. The fact is that just like fans can be the 12th man, they can also have the effect of making us play like we have only 9 or 10 men, by harming the players with all this scapegoating.
I 'm intrigued by what you would have the fans do? Each game starts off with 90k Redskins fans cheering for Brunell and all of the Skins. Do the fans boo? Yes they do. As far as "sparing" Campbell's confidence, spare me. How much confidence does anybody gain with a clipboard? At the end of the day it's football, and if he was going to be in a spot where he couldn't succeed, maybe I'd worry about his confidence. But he's got plenty of weapons, we've made the investment in him, and the starter is not winning games. He'll have to take his lumps sooner or later, why wait? And yes, I'm scapegoating. Brunell, Saunders, Lloyd, Cooley, the O-line, and anyone else who has underperformed. Gibbs. 2-4, we're not out of it but the schedule doesn't get any easier, so my question is why wait? |
Re: John Riggins Show - Joe Gibbs
right on, I thought the crowd was a factor sunday, in titans favor
Maybe they should drug the crowd so that they don't care that the team was letting a very winnable game slip away, yet again. They should be cheering their little hearts out when the team goes 3 and out for the 10th time in a row because the QB short hops a 10yrd hook or because the O-line fails to pick up a blitz. Everyone in burgundy and gold should stand up and cheer when the defense gives up 3rd and long or commits a personal foul that continues a drive. They should be proud that our once great defense let a rookie QB on an 0-5 team lead a game winning drive and they should be lighting off fireworks when our QB throws up a jump ball on first down with about a minute left to end the game rahter than trying to actually move the ball down field into FG range. The fans at the stadium are all a bunch of idiots and they are the reason we lost this game just like they are the reason we lost the game to the vikings. |

Thank you AMD! I was going to post something to that effect. Its all OUR fault.

I just get pissed when people get so mad at booing the home team or whatever (sorry to get off topic). I feel like the fans are smart enough that when they boo it's for a reason. They were booing on Sunday because the team looked like complete crap for much of the second half. If Campbell comes in and struggles at first I think the fans will be much more forgiving because they know he is young and will need time to adjust to the game. Brunell should be veteran enough to understand this. If I pay a ton of money to go see my favorite band and they come out and mess up all the songs and knock the speakers off the stage and take long pauses inbetween each song, I'm going to be pissed and I'll probably boo. I feel the same way about the team that I invest a lot of my time and money into. |
Re: John Riggins Show - Joe Gibbs
Well, some of the players aren't too happy about all the booing. Right or wrong they think the fans should get behind them more. Should we just dismiss their feelings on the matter? I think they understand the booing, but the fans are just so quick to boo now. Perhaps the negativity is wearing on them a bit. They know they're not playing well, they know they need to play better, and the last thing they need is the constant booing and chants for the backup QB.
I'm not saying I totally agree with the players, but I do see their point. |

So do I, and I hate that it has come to the point that many of us fans are so quick with the boos. I think if the team were doing well and Brunell was to throw a pick the reaction wouldn't be so quick or so harsh. But, the team is struggling, and on Sunday we were struggling against a team we were favored to beat by 10 points. I would have been more shocked to not hear the crowd react to the poor play than I was to hear them boo. |
Re: John Riggins Show - Joe Gibbs
And we have to consider how this plays into feeding emotion to our opponents. Hearing the boos rain down has to get them even more pumped, and at this point they don't need any more help.

Re: John Riggins Show - Joe Gibbs
If you think it was bad on sunday, just wait until Dallas comes to town. If MB is still the QB and we dont come out and play well right off the bat, the fans will turn in a hurry. I dont agree with it but its true. If that happens, Dallas will blow us right out of the water.
|
Re: John Riggins Show - Joe Gibbs
Gibbs needs to ask the fans to not do that. He is the only one who might be able to curb that a bit.

Plus, the problem is, when the team is not doing well (ah'hem) there are always a lot more cowboys fans creeping around FedEx than if we are winning. I really hope the dumb kid I go to games with doesn't get into a fight on the 5th because I doubt I'll jump in. |

Some great and loyal fans around here giving up on the season already. Probably were on here last year in week 12 when we were 5-6 talking all this same trash. It ain't over 'til it's over.
it's different. last year we were 5-6 (.455) not 2-4 (.333), we hadn't fallen behind two nfc east teams (0-2 now, vs 6-0 in 2005), we hadn't gone 0-3 in the division (we went 10-2), we had an easier schedule, and we almost won a bunch of other games (35-36 bucs, failed 2pt conversion vs broncos to tie as time expired, OT loss to SD, all VERY close games). right now, unless we're super lucky, we'll hit the bye at 2-5 and need to go 8-1 to get back in with no hint of defense or committment to the running game yet in sight. |
Re: John Riggins Show - Joe Gibbs
I went to Desmond Howard's 1st preseason game vs. the vikes in 92, the season after we won our last bowl. It was also Rypien's 1st game after a long holdout & he was booed heavily in a 30-0 loss (we beat them in reg season & playoffs). Granted, he held out & was overpaid, but he had just been super bowl mvp!
Howard had 1 catch & no boos, despite having held out just as long. QBs in DC have always been booed, I remember it happening to Joe T, but its the timing & energy that matters. If you're going to boo, at least make as much noise when the other team has the ball. Fedex got quiet for our D & it was a close game. |
Re: John Riggins Show - Joe Gibbs
The booing on Sunday was mostly frustration with the defense's inability to stop the Titans in the 2nd half. There were scattered boos directed towards the offense, but that was to be expected as Brunell lobbed passes that he needed to fire in and fired in passes that should have been lobbed. The offense just looked out of sync, and meanwhile Vince Young was pretty effective against what all Skins fans feel should be a formidable defense.
The fans don't come to games to boo, they come to cheer. Unfortunately there wasn't much to cheer about in the Titans game, the Skins scored early and then spent most of the next three quarters in fits and starts. Players are sensitive, so what. If they don't want the fans to boo, then give a better effort. Travis Henry ran for 175 yards, were the fans supposed to cheer about that? |
