Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
I just realized that lol, i joined a year after you did.
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
This really doesn't mean anything, and I am sick of trying to "read" Gibbs and what he is trying to say. Gibbs doesn't give the media anything, and it doesn't make much sense listening to what he thinks. The Cold Pizza piece, has more validity, because it is from a third party. I think Campbell is coming within 2-3 games.
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
I think Campbell is coming vs Dallas. Brunell might start, but we'll see him.
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
I believe we'll see Campbell start.
It will herald the start of a true new Redskins era, I may even cry. :dallas: |
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
Brunell is a class guy, I have no doubt he would (will) support Campbell.
As for Collins the dude has been a backup for the majority of his career. I don't see why he would become a diva out of nowhere.
Collins could be good. Look at Damon Huard in Kansas City. He was the third stringer behind Collins and Green. But I still don't want Collins to play at all. |
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
One sack with a shot to Brunell's midsection and he isn't getting back up. If you've got sore ribs, any type of hit is NOT going to feel good.
Think teams might go easy on Brunell just to keep him in. No unnecessary hits, etc. |
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
Brunell usually does enough to keep his job another week.
Also we should be careful what we wish for. When Campbell does play it's going to be a mixed bag, so I hope you all will maintain your entususiam for him when he has a bad day. I have no doubt you will. (sarcasm) I think Romo's mixed bag should be of the bad variety for Sunday. They're actiong like he's Stauback in Dallas so he should let down. New QB's are up and down. Unless he really is Stauback. I have a very positive feeling about this game. |
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
We'll be much more patient with a young QB than an old QB.
|

I would highly doubt that. Any team would like to see a unproven rookie in a game, rather than a vet who has the capacity to lead a team to a comeback(not saying that he would, but just that he has the capacity). |

exactly because you lower your expectation. good point |

Maybe that explains Jansen and the off year he is having, we know he was pal's with Ramsey. Obviously it's clear now, Jansen just want's to win!:towel: |
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
I'm not expecting Campbell to come in and look like Peyton. I for one, am accepting of the fact that all quarterbacks playing for the first time struggle. It's a universal theory. There are a few that come in and play excellent, but those are extremely rare. Look at Roethlisberger, does anyone think he is still a good quarterback just because he won a super bowl? He played excellent as a rookie, now he's throwing four picks a game to the Raiders of all teams. If Campbell comes in and tosses 3 picks, so be it. It's the growing pains all young quarterbacks go through. For another point, look at Alex Smith. He threw all of one touchdown pass last year against like 11 interceptions, or something like that. He's already thrown for 10 touchdowns this year.
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
If there is a change coming the smart thing to do is to keep Brunell out of practice as long as possible while he heals to allow Campbell to continue to work with the first team, but I would keep MB as the starter and give Mark the first series and if he doesn't put it in the end zone he's out of there, the reasoning for this is there is a basic game plan for Brunell, the Boy's would hopefully have trouble readjusting for a different QB who they have no clue what he is capable of, or what his week points are right now. Could be a big advantage right off the bat.
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
I think it is time for Campbell to come in. He has had plenty of time to sit and learn, let him get in there and grow with the young players he is going to have to generate chemistry with. It will really pay off next season, like Alex playing last year (as excruciating as it was to watch) benefitted him a lot this season.
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
Yeah, and Ramsey was the starter last year.
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
It would be nice to see both young quarterbacks starting against each other, but I don't think It'll happen. I do not hope brunell gets hurt, though... he's still wearing a skins uniform... I just hope he stops sucking.
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
Everyone thinking that we are going to see Campbell this weekend needs to know it is unlikely unlss he starts(really unlikely), He has been the emergency QB every game this year which means he can't play unless both the the active QBs go down with injuries. In that case when he comes in those other QBs can't come back no matter what. If he came in and got hurt up we'd be running ARE at QB then. Doesn't sound like something Gibbs would risk. I am hopeful that we can switch JC and TC soon so this scenario doesn't rear it's head. JC needs to play ASAP. We can't go into this guys 3rd year having no clue what he can do. Even if we miraculously start winning games with Brunell we are treading on real thin ice not playing JC. Prior to the season the only way I wanted to see Brunell throughout was if we were in the thick. At 2-5 we couldn't even be reasonably in the thick of anything until we got to say 8-5.

Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
this whole thing makes me laugh. if Campbell would start against Dallas, and throw 3 interceptions, and really suck, then people around here would be calling for Collins to start. and ripping Gibbs for picking Campbell in the draft

And your point is? |
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
my point is, our perception of where this season is heading, and coach Gibbs' perception are 2 totally different things. we see doom and gloom, and the coaching staff see them tweaking a couple of things and righting the ship. there is no way Campbell gets on the field this year unless brunell gets hurt, or the redskins are mathematically eliminated
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
No matter who is in at QB if the Skins are losing they are losing. It's as simple as that. Campbell could turn out to be the greatest QB of all time but if he looked like garbage for 2 straight years that would be 2 years of begging for the back-up to come in.

The backup QB is always the more popular QB amongst the fans. If Campbell looked horrible the whole season, I doubt we'd be very patient with him the following season. |

I would tend to agree. Patience doesn't seem to be a virtue among many here. There are already those who say that Campbell must be a bust anyway, otherwise he would be playing already. Bottom line is, as has been said, the backups and the ones that got away always seem to be the "best" choices. |

i totally disagree. if Campbell started and stunk up the field, we'd all attribute it to youth and inexperience and we'd expect him only to get better. that's the benefit of youth. something no one could say about Brunell. remember how patient fans were with Ramsey (and not Gibbs), they all expected him to just get better with experience but alas he never got the chance to lose (and learn from) as many games as Brunell has. |
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
True enough. We gave Ramsey a ZILLION free passes.

We both know there are those here who called JC a bad pick from the start and are chomping at the bit to say look at how horrible our talent evaluation is, and we mortgaged the future for a mid-level (at best) QB. |

Well if that's true we are going to have to draw straws to see who gets to put him out of commishion. |

Why don't you just put a link to one of my posts?:D |
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
How could people possibly show patience around here????? we've made the playoffs twice since 92 (and barely, 10-6 both years), meanwhile our divsion has been garbage every since the cowboys dynasty ended, but we managed to do nothing. The fans have been patient with gibbs in his second stint, However, patience right now would be unwarrented due to the fact that the skins are digging themselves a deep deep hole right now. We always seem to manage 7 victories or so to prevent panick, maybe a terrible season is what we need to identify the need for an overhaul. I still love watching the skins, even if I only get the joy of 6-8 wins per year. Last year was a dream for me........we went 10-6 haha.

Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
It's difficult for us as fans to think of Campbell going into his 3rd season with US having no clue what he can do but...even if we have no clue that doesn't mean the coaching staff has no clue. Gibbs in the past has let young QB's watch and learn then thrown them into the fire to see them atleast have moderate success(Rypien instantly comes to mind)...because he knew what they could do even if we didn't.
Still I would love to see Campbell ASAP cause Brunell is taking us nowhere and either is Collins so sooner or later the move has to be made to find a successer...the sooner the better IMO. |
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
Gibbs saying Campbell is ready to play is such a non issue...what's he supposed to say? Oh he sucks...he needs another year on the bench...of course he will say he's ready to play. Unless Gibbs makes a comment about Brunell not getting the job done we are never going to see cambell.
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
No, he'd say, "He's looking OK, but he still has some work to do."
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
I believe this as much as I believed Gibbs when he said Ramsey was his starter.
|
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
Everyone should just chill out. Jason is going to struggle just like every young QB. It is going to take time for him to start playing well. This is why they just should have let him be the starter after the Seatlle game last year. That way he would have gotten all the off-season work. Look what Cinn. did to Kitna after he threw 26 td's and 14 ints. He got the hook!

In retrospect, it probably would have been best to give him the job in February, but hindsight is 20/20. Right now, all that matters is beating Dallas. |

We cannot compare Rypien, Schroeder, and Humphries with Jason Campbell simply because none of these players were drafted in the first round with other picks involved. Therefore it was easier to wait on these type players because not a lot was expected of them at the time, plus they had a good experienced QB playing ahead of them. There is more expected from Jason, that's why most of us want to see what he can do, sooner than later. |
Re: Joe Gibbs: "Campbell is ready to play"!
Joe Gibbs just released a statement saying he would start Campbell, but Campbell declined an invite to eat dinner at Gibbs' house and Gibbs feels he'd be letting him off the hook.

Got that right! Who knows if the kid is really ready, but Gibbs can't continue to say he is not, the longer Campbell is on the bench the worse the pick looks. Tough to explain to people that a player you gave up so much for can't outplay MB. |
