(100%) 1: Sen. Sam Brownback (R)
(97%) 2: Rep. Duncan Hunter (R)
(95) tie: Rep. Tom Tancredo (R)
Sen. George Allen (R)

i was not surprised with the results exept for Duncun Hunter. he is pro-choice and supports gun control, thats two areas that i strongly dissagree with and he might support same sex unions, i can't remember.

In general, I support less government.

My political opinions go something like this:
1. Less war
2. Privatize Social Security
3. Funding for education
4. Environmentally cautious
5. Civil unions
6. Free trade
7. Reduce spending and lower the deficit
8. Pro business
9. No capital punishment
10. Pro life
11. No gun control
12. Improve border security

You're pretty similar to me, except:

1. I am "iffy" about privatizing Social Security. Privatizing it would inherently make it less secure.

2. I think gays should be able to enjoy all the rights of marriage, including being officially "married" and not merely joined in a union. It's largely symbolic, but it's an important distinction.

3. I am pro-choice and pro-death penalty (although the death penalty system must be reformed).

4. I definately believe in gun control.

On many "hot button" issues (e.g., abortion, gun control, gay marriage) I lean pretty far to the left, but on other issues (e.g., war, taxes) I lean pretty far to the right.

Warning, pandora's box opening: I'm in favor of sending tons and tons of troops to Iraq.

Bill Richardson
John Edwards
Dennis Kucinich
Ron Paul
Joe Biden
Barack Obama
Al Gore
John Kerry
Duncan Hunter
Wesley Clark

In leading up to the last election, the 2 guys I liked in the Democratic Primary were Kucinich and Clark. I also consider myself pretty moderate, and as someone said earlier, there is not enough parody within the questioning for me.
i was wondering, do you have children? and are you registered for the draft?
Yes, one daughter, 3 months old. And I can't remember how draft rules apply to me. I'm 27, which means, should a draft be instituted, I think (though not positive) I'd be eligible right now, but would soon be deemed too old. I think they target ages 20-28 in a draft? I dunno for sure.

But I get the gist of your question. If drafted, I'd be proud to go. There's a military history in my family and I was actually very VERY close to entering the service after 9/11.

I'm not one of those types that thinks send more troops as long as you don't send me or anyone I know.
Where are these 'tons and tons of troops' going to come from Schneed?
Yeah that's the problem.

Draft. I'm in favor of it. And yes, I realize that makes me a very slim minority.

Also, assuming we do need to boost troop levels (which many don't agree, but assuming we do for the sake of argument) the country might want to consider giving all soldiers a pay raise. Pay them more and you'll definitely get more volunteers. BUT... we'd need to raise taxes to do it, because we can't drive the deficit any higher. And that would be REALLY unpopular, to raise taxes (unpopular in and of itself) in order to fund an unpopular war. So that doesn't really make much sense.

Draft is the logical solution, assuming we're sending more troops.

Re: Who Would You Vote For?

i really dont think that is the answer. its something about the mentality of the middle east. kill or be killed. no matter how much we try to interject, the mindset remains the same

Schneed10 01-26-2007 09:58 AM

Re: Who Would You Vote For?

PS For the record, I think Bush is a moron if he thinks that sending what amounts to a 15% increase in troops is going to produce significant results. At this point, I think you either go big (like McCain suggests) or you go home (like Obama and Hilary suggest). You definitely don't go somewhere in the middle and just eff around for another 5 years like Bush is doing.

I prefer going big. Bush is right when he says that if we don't succeed in Iraq, the middle east is going to be a friggin mess, and will likely cause us tons of headaches down the road. He's just a moron regarding how to get it done.

TheMalcolmConnection 01-26-2007 09:59 AM

Re: Who Would You Vote For?

I'm not. I pay my taxes like everyone else, and I'll be damned if someone is going to tell me whether I have to serve or not. It's a beautiful thing having a voluntary military.

I don't agree with this war, so therefore I wouldn't go.

If this was Afghanistan where we are defending ourselves from a regime that attacked us, I'd be glad to be drafted, even though war isn't exactly my favorite thing to be doing with my life.

You're right, the Sunnis and Shiites are going to kill each other no matter what. The only way it can work is if Iraq gets economically and militarily strong enough to suppress its own uprisings. That will take a lot of economic and a lot of military strength because the opposition is tough.

There are also other dynamics though. Al Sadr is willing to come to the political table and work with the Iraqi government, but he won't do it unless the US is out of the picture. He's showing signs he can be reasonable. But then, there are still too many Iranian and Syrian militants in there, not loyal to Sadr, with different agendas, and we can't leave because they're still there. So Sadr's political agenda will have to wait for us to jet.

TheMalcolmConnection 01-26-2007 10:04 AM

Re: Who Would You Vote For?

Speaking of Sunnis and Shiites, the reason they kill each other is so INSANE. I looked up the difference and I cannot believe people hate each other over something like that. It's almost like Baptists fighting Methodists.

Yeah it's nothing short of bigotry. It's completely retarded.

dmek25 01-26-2007 10:28 AM

Re: Who Would You Vote For?

i don't think its as easy as suppressing the uprisings. these people are taught, from a very young age, who they are to hate, and how to take care of it( by killing) until you can change an entire philosophy of life's beliefs, the cycle will never end

You'd be safe, you're 34. They'd deem you too old. But I know what you're getting at, with the principle of it and whatnot.

Again, I definitely realize I'm in the minority on the draft thing. I don't bother trying to argue for it because I know the majority is too overwhelmingly against it.

Re: Who Would You Vote For?

I remember back in 1991 with the Gulf war my friends and I were seriously talking of packing up and moving up north if they put a draft in place. We were just 18 at the time so we had no idea of how unlikely a draft really was, but either way we were pretty freaked out initially when the war started and there were some whispers of a draft.

Re: Who Would You Vote For?

Anyway, on voting as a topic in general, Iraq is an issue for me, but I'd say that 75% of my vote is based on one issue: the economy. I'm a numbers guy, what'd you expect!

Taxes, the deficit, jobs/unemployment, wage growth, inflation, minimum wage, these are all the things I care most about. Then comes Iraq. Then comes education.

On the social issues, which rank low in my priority list, I'm pretty much a lefty. But I'm a righty on the economy. So overall, when it all averages out, I end up liking moderate republicans.

now im just curious here, but are you saying you wouldnt fight for your country because:
(a) you dont agree with this war?
(b) you dont agree with this war and you dont like Bush?
(c) you cant justify risking your life for your country, no matter what the circumstances?

That Guy 02-03-2007 12:24 AM

Re: Who Would You Vote For?

cutting down the armed forces was the stupidest idea ever. now instead of having soldiers making 23k a year for logistics jobs, contractors have to be paid 80-100k to do the same work. a down sized military only saves you money when they're not fighting. we could have been better off (on the economics) with our old full sized military for something like 20 more years with what's been spent on contracting in iraq thusfar.

a draft is great economically for the country, but i's terrible for the military. You end up with a lot more opposition and MUCH lower morale and effectiveness (ie higher incedents of drug use, going awol, etc).

an right now the army will let you enlist as old as 42. if a new draft is instituted, the age limits can be re-assessed if needed.

That Guy 02-03-2007 12:39 AM

(95%) 5: Sen. Hillary Clinton (D) Information
(93%) 6: Gov. Bill Richardson (D) Information
(89%) 7: Ex-Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R)

i'd go for mccain, or giuliani. I don't think i'd EVER vote for rice or hillary (not that they're women, just that i don't like them all that much). my results are screwy cause libertarian types are
in between (conservative economics, more liberal socially).

i think this survey wasn't very good though. Like, i don't care about immigration per say, only ILLEGAL immigration, especially those that are collecting benefits without paying taxes, but that wasn't an option, only 300k/year or don't worry about it.

btw, i think the best race would be mccain vs obama... obama probably needs more experience, but if a dem has to win...
