I'm really starting to cool on JLC. I appreciate his insider info but it seems like he is increasingly willing to go out of his way to slam the Skins.
JLC seems to have much support around here. IMO he is not good for the Redskins at all. I think there is a pretty big conflict of interest, but I am in the minority. He is a pawn and a Redskin Insider he is not. Once again IMO. |
Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
ST continues to be an enigma. I would honestly rather pay him now, because man, he is going to have a big year. At the same time, I hate when players bargain after a down year. If he had bigger balls, he would just play his ass off, get a justified prowbowl bid, and THEN sit down and negotiate. This is the typical tough guy primadonna move.

Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
Yeah Sean Taylor has no leverage at all. Case closed. Great you are a very good player. When you become great call us back and you can have that raise so you can be more of a millionaire.

Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
Funny Taylor say's nothing but everyone knows what he's thinking! I would like to see the quote that he say's he is unhappy with his contract and want's to restructure? Of coarse every player would love more money but not to the extent of a holdout, Taylor said 2 years ago that the mini camps are not mandatory therefore he doesn't need to be there. I am also just tired of hearing that Taylor is being moved out by Landry, does anyone have a clue why we picked Landry so high? IT'S BECAUSE WE NEEDED A SAFETY WHO WOULD ALLOW TAYLOR TO BE EVERYTHING THAT HE CAN BE! Landry is not a replacement, he is a compliment to Taylor. For some reason I see post after post of individuals who can't get it out of thier heads that there are 2 safety positions not 1, as if you need only 1 good safety, and who cares for the other safety position. The last thing Taylor wants is a new contract after last season, he now has safety help and poised to have a monster year, then he can get paid.

It must be a full moon or something because lately I find myself agreeing with you. ;) People need to chill, we're already assuming he's not here due to contract issues, and some are even speculating this means he's headed for legal trouble again. LOL c'mon, whatever happened to giving a guy the benefit of the doubt for a second?? Until we know more we should really chill with all the wild speculating. |
Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
Sean was at Redskins Park a couple of weeks ago working out with the team. The guy still has 4 yrs. left on his current contract and is making almost 2.5 mil this year. What does he want? Maybe they can extend him after another year but not this year.
|
Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
I agree with you to offiss.

Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
First off, even if it is a contract squabble, let Taylor take up arms against the team for all I care. He's got no leverage. He is signed with us through 2010, scheduled to make base salaries of about $1 million per year. He doesn't have any roster bonuses or workout bonuses remaining in his contract, the only money coming his way is the base salary.
So what's he going to do, hold out for 3 years? Play 6 games each season to get credit for a season played? His base salaries are subject to him being here and playing. If he doesn't play for us, he gives up his base salary. So what, you think he's going to give up his source of income for the next 3 years? Hell no. The guy will be here when it counts, he needs to earn his money. He can throw a fit about his contract for all I care, he has no leverage, the Skins know it, and they know he'll be here. Missing OTAs? Whoopee stinkin doo. Until he starts missing mandatory training camp, who the frick cares. |
Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
I think when it's all said and done, the Redskins will do right by Sean Taylor.
It wouldn't at all surprise me if he got a new deal at the end of this season. |
Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
why else wouldnt he be here. also he should have an extension because he is one of the best safties and should be paid accordingly
As others have already said, this is much less of a thing than people are making it out as. The Miami guys are notorious for working out in South Florida and it generally works out pretty well for them. As already mentioned, after last years season Gibbs has changed his policy and I for one think it is a good move. I didn't used to think that, but after hearing Clinton Portis talk on the John Thompson show (got to love PodCasts) he thought that one of the reasons for the tough season last year was that everyone was burned out from being at the Park since February. Let these guys have some time away from the game. They are professionals, they are working out with WORLD CLASS athletes and trainers down in Miami, and they will come back in great shape and recharged to give 100% to the Redskins. Stop freaking out, it will be ok. |

All of you are whackass haters if you have anything agianst Sean Taylor. If he wants more money, he deserves it!!! HE IS THE BEST PLAYER ON THE TEAM!!! He should atleast make more than Brunnell.
Sean was here before OTAs working out off and on. He had troubles his rookie season but he is NOT A THUG. At that time he was a KID and kid's get into trouble. As for Springs, you can't blame him he doesn't know if he'll be here come June 1st so what the point of participating in OTAs. |

Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
My biggest concern from that article came from this paragraph:
"Before the voluntary workouts began, Campbell had wanted to work out with wide receivers Antwaan Randle El, Santana Moss and Brandon Lloyd, but the dates never materialized. Moss said he hoped to reschedule with Campbell during the six weeks between the mandatory June minicamp and the start of training camp July 27." I'm glad Santana is going to reschedule with Jason, but it looks like Jason was willing to put in the extra effort to improve during the offseason, but his corp of receivers weren't. I remember hearing a report about Carson Palmer & Ocho Cinco, after Cinci went 8-8 and missed the playoffs, analyzed what Peyton Manning and his receivers did to get to where they were at, and it was simply putting in extra time to run routes individually with receivers to get their chemistry tight. So, Carson, Chad, and TJ did that as well in the offseason, and their air attack exploded the next season. I wish Jason could've done that with his receivers as well. Lord knows Brandon Lloyd needs to put in the extra tme running routes. |

I don't think we realize sometimes that these guys have lives away from football and they need their down time too. |
Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
Fair enough, I think of all the OTA and off-season stuff, the timing and route running of the passing game probably benefit the most. More than any other aspect of the game, the passing game requires two particular players to understand each other. The off-season route running probably does allow the QB and receivers to talk more and get a feel for each other's nuances.
Even that, however, can't duplicate game speed or conditions. At the same time, it will probably be more helpful to work on it after minicamp and before Training Camp as it lets them be that much more prepared prior to the opening of camp. |
Re: Springs and Taylor miss OTAs
This is my opinion but this is why I think he has been treated unfairly:
Springs has been a leader in the locker room the whole time that he has been on the team. He has never been in trouble. He participates in the community, he shows up on the local Redskins shows and he represents the team well on the various media outlets. He has restructured his contract, in the past, when the team needed salary cap relief. Last year, he hurt his groin. He rushed back to get back on the field because the team desperately needed him. Although never 100%, he did his best to give the team a chance. Well, he never healed and then he was hurt again later in the year. During the offseason, the Redskins ask him to restructure and essentially take a pay cut because he was hurt last year. Realizing that he held the leverage due to the shortage of quality corners, he decides that they can pay him his salary or let him go where he will certainly get a large signing bonus. Since he wouldn't restructure, the front office did everything they could to get rid of him but there have not been any legitimate offers. I would take a whole team of Shawn Springs. This is a prime example of why players should think long and hard about restructuring. They are holding his high cap number over his head. The cap number that is so high because he helped them out in the past.
Agreed. Springs is not going to take a pay cut. He has been a great leader and defines what we call a "core redskin." I hope we keep him at least for this year. It's a non story. OTA's are optional and every nfl team has players that don't show. |

As a receiver, the only instincts are basically how to get around getting bumped. After that, It's run your route crisp, recollect from film where you have to be, and know your QB. I think you're right to assume QB/WR timing is the most important. |

Grim you have valid points, but I am just surprised you started this thread. You are the one who is usually blasting people for overreacting. And what about all those other people that skipped camp. Does it really even matter that much? I dont think teams around the league care that much about camps. I know Joe might, but overall how is this a big deal? GW still sweats STs nuts and we dont have another safety to play, they tried last year and that didnt work. I just dont see the big deal with this issue... |
