Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
It's not so much of who's better out there right now. It's just that I can't think of any good reason why they wouldn't hire Gregg Williams. Every player I've heard speak about the coaching vacancy has publicly endorsed Gregg Williams.

Do you think Snyder will listen to what his players think? To me it seems like he's not that kind of guy. I guess we'll wait and see. Hey I want GW just as much as everyone does, but I think Schneed10 made some good points as to why its not going to be him. |

Speaking of told ya, anyone seen Warriorzpath? But back on topic, other than being local what other ties does Schwartz have with the Skins or any of its players? |
Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
Bringing in Schwartz also indicates that Snyder's hesitancy on Williams may be largely personal. He knows that if he hires someone outside, Williams will leave so he brings in someone who he thinks can do what Williams did from a defensive standpoint to be the guy. If he didn't dislike Williams he could just promote him. Basically Schwarts background says they don't expect Williams to be here. If he were an Offensive guy, Williams might still leave (with Blache and Grey) and then you'd be adrift defensively.

Signs point to Gibbs and Snyder thinking he's a great defensive coordinator, but not a good leader. |

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
For him to walk, Grilliams would have to have a HC job lined up, right? I don't think anyone's knocking down his door... or do you think he would quit out of spite? Point may be moot however if they hire outside the organization, someone's most likely going to bring in their own people anyway.

I don't know, 70. I can't see Williams putting a $1MM clause in Williams contract if he has something personal. Too have him in mind at one moment and then turn around a million dollars and have a change of heart just doesn't seem right to me. Not to mention that Williams' defense finished eighth in the NFL. |
Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
The issue with this guy, and anyone else who comes in from outside the organization, is will he accept Al Saunders as his OC.
Bram Weinstein had a good point today saying that if it's a first time head coach, that would lend more leeway to Snyder to say that whoever it is won't have a say with the offensive coordinator -- assuming Snyder does want to keep Saunders. |

According to his bio, the only player he has ties to is Randall Godfrey.
Schwartz also was instrumental in the integration of newly acquired LB Randall Godfrey into the Titans defensive scheme, as he set career highs in tackles (169) and interceptions (2). Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
I thought we all agreed there was no clause. The guys on Sirius said unequivocally that it was a myth, not to mention an illegal provision.

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
maybe i'm on dope, but I just can't see Gibbs walking away from everything he's busted his arse for 4 years only to have it torn down. It just doesn't make sense to me. There is a replacement for Gibbs already and Gibbs and Snyder knew this already. They are just making us sweat it out. done deal pal!

JLC had a post on his blog saying that clause doesn't exist. I've heard it on the radio as well. |

OK, logically speaking, why would they do that? |

Cooke made Gibbs keep Richie Petitbon and Torgeson and the whole defensive staff as a condition for getting the job in 1981. The problem of course is that the perception is that the defense is better than the offense at this point. Likewise in 1981, it was the offense that had been holding the team back. If you condition Saunders, you're saying "Win, but you have to do it with this slightly disfunctional side of the ball". I just can't see Williams staying regardless of the new HCs background. Williams role here has been something more than just coordinator but less than HC and he knows that Gibbs allowed that when nobody else will. |

I don't see how that can be intrepreted as continuity at all. He might run a simliar defensive scheme, but I'm sure when you get down to all the nuances of it, it's proably quite different. In mind continuity encompasses far more than bringing in a similiar defensive scheme. It would have to suggest offense, teams and defense. Not to mention the culture of the Redskins organization. Schwartz may have solid NFL credentials worthy of an interview, and keep in mind that's all it is, but he most certainly has no idea of the vibe and what continuity actually consists of at Redskins Park. |

My bet is GW as head coach, Schwartz as assistant HC - defense.

To who, GW as HC? Then why the initial interest in Cowher? Why didn't GW get promoted immediately? And why would Schwartz interview for a lateral move? And would the Titans even allow the interview for a lateral move? |

Could be. And then it might be one of those Jason Garret type things. He was the golden boy everybody thought was going to be the head coach and the Jones plucks Wade Philips for the head job. ( hehehe...I said head job) |

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
OK, logically speaking, why would they do that?
No disrespect to Coach Gibbs here but realistically gibbs was "out of the picture" kinda once Al Saunders came in. Coach gibbs was the middle man for the offense with the power of veto over saunders but for the most part i believe Gibbs took somewhat of a back seat to the play calling once Saunders came in.... I think this is obvious with the 5-11 season in 2006 (saunders 1st year) So in reality, the point i'm trying to make here is: Saunders offense has proven to be effective I believe this is evident in the last 4 regular season games. Cambell went down (Gibbs "boy") and Collins came in (Saunders "boy") and tore it up. Gregg's "D" has also proven itself to be effective so I think that Gibbs decided that it's time to take his bottle of gule home with him because he's done his job and "glued" this team together. Gibbs is a brilliant man and I really don't think we'll see the fruits of his labor until next year and beyond. I know, I have this posted in another thread.... |

Who said the Skins were ever seriously interested in Cowher other than pure speculation from the media and fans? It wouldn't be a lateral move when you take into account the title, Assistant head coach - defense. |

Could have been wrong, but JLC doesn't get his scoop from Pro Football Weekly. He's got connections. Again, they could have been wrong. The assistant head coach title thing would irk the Titans. They'd say it's basically the same position and raise a stink over the Skins using a straw man title to skirt the rules on asking for permission to interview. I think if he was coming to interview for Assistant Head Coach - Defense, you'd hear some squawking out of Tennessee. |
