Re: Make Your Day Two Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 3-7)
I dont know college players well enough at this point. I wait to hear conversation or for people to distinguish themselves. Anyhow, I want a kicker late. I'd love to get a kicker and punter in here for the long term.

Re: Make Your Day Two Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 3-7)
colt brennan doesn't have an nfl arm, he'd be a wasted pick (imo). chris ellis and trevor laws are going at least a round before you have us take them (and we pick near the end)
i think hardy gets drafted in 5th or 6th too. good guy to bet on though. |

I not so sure about that I've been on here for a long time (as have you ) and we seem to always over value prospects.

Re: Make Your Day Two Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 3-7)
3rd - Dre Moore. After that I don't have a good feel for who will be available and who we can develop. In general though I would like too grab and OL, LB, and S. Usually these positions are the ones that develop into quality starters when they come from the late 2nd day picks.

Strengths: Runs adequate short-to-intermediate routes and isn't going to drop many passes should catch. Tall enough to come down with most jump balls, uses wide frame to shield defenders from the ball and flashes the ability to make the tough catch in traffic. Is fast enough to work the seam and shows good body control when tracking the ball downfield. Runs hard and can pick up yards after contact. Takes adequate angles to blocks, flashes the ability to adjust to the moving target in space can get into position at the second level. Works hard, gets adequate hand placement and flashes the ability to sustain blocks. Walked on at Maryland before earning a scholarship, has progressed nicely and should only get better with added experience. Weaknesses: Plays too high, hasn't shown great lower body strength and should have problems driving defenders off the ball. Isn't physical, doesn't deliver a violent punch and catches defenders rather than attacking them. Though plays with a wide base and generally gets into sound position when asked to help out in pass protection, bends at the knees rather than the waist and has problems anchoring against bull rushers. Isn't fast enough to outrun defenders when gets a seam, lacks the elusiveness to make defenders miss and isn't much of a threat after the catch. Overall: Haynos was redshirted in 2003. During his first three seasons (2004-'06) he appeared in 30 games (six starts) and caught 38 passes for 372 yards (9.8 average) and four touchdowns. Haynos was used primarily as a blocking tight end during his first two seasons. Haynos is a suspect drive blocker at this point and he isn't much of a big-play threat but he has the tools to develop into a starter in time. He has the frame to add bulk and get stronger at the point of attack and the strong hands to develop into a reliable possession receiver.
What does everyone know about Josh Johnson, QB out of San Diego? Played in a pro-style WC under Jim Harbaugh. Possible late rounder?
Josh Johnson projects as a 3rd pick right now on USA Today. To me that means that he's either going in the 2nd round or the 5th. Either way projecting where QB's are going to fall after the top 10 seems quite troublesome. Strengths: Possesses adequate-to-good height and bulk. Is tough, aggressive and active versus the run. Hands continue to improve and he does a decent job of getting off blocks, finding the ball and pursuing. Generally displays good leverage out of his stance. He is a good open-field tackler for his position. Displays good initial pop and will stand some OT's up with his short area explosiveness. He displays some quality power moves as a pass rusher. Plays with a great motor. Excellent experience at the highest collegiate level. He also has been exceptionally durable and reliable throughout his career. Weaknesses: Lacks any elite qualities. Does not display good top-end speed or closing burst as a pass rusher. Will struggle to turn the corner as an edge rusher and will never be much of a threat in that facet of the game. Plays power-DE in college but does not possess elite size and will need to improve his base in order to contribute as a situational run-plugger type. Gets good initial pop but will struggle to anchor versus bigger, stronger OT's. Overall: Gilberry was redshirted when he arrived in 2003. During his first three seasons (2004-06) he played in 37 games (25 starts) and recorded 108 tackles, 33.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks. Gilberry is a tough, aggressive, durable and reliable college player that continues to improve each season. He will give a great effort and maximizes his skills. He is at his best versus the run and should find a way to contribute for a NFL team on a sub-package basis. However, Gilberry will never be much of a threat as a pass rusher and he lacks any special physical qualities to get excited about when projecting him to the next level. Even if he maximizes his tools in the NFL he will never be more than a situational run-stopping reserve. As such, Gilberry projects as a mid-round pick in 2008. I have to stop kidding around so much. Letting people know that I'm messing around is becoming a full time job for you SmootSmack. In all seriousness I think the key to finding out who the Redskins will take on day 2 will be finding out who are the most coachable guys with extremly productive careers, while being short on measureables. HB Blades is a prime example of that. I think Vinny said that he averaged 150 tackles a year when he started at Pitt, but don't hold me to that. In fact Vinny said that they mainly target productive players with average-measureables on day 2. So if you're looking who the Redskins might take on day 2 look at the stats instead of the 40 times. |

Re: Make Your Day Two Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 3-7)
I think that history tells us that one of the second day Guards will probably go on to be a successful NFL lineman. To me the guys to watch out for are
Andrew Crummey - Local product that was highly regarded by fans and coaches, but has recently been slown down by injuries. 2008 NFL Draft Scout, From Prep to Pro Coverage for Pros by Pros -- Powered by the Sports Xchange (Projected round 6-7) Robert Felton G - Arkansas - To this day I believe that Darren McFaddens success is due more to the ability of his offensive line then his own natural talent. Felton is a mauler and I would love to add him. Ironically his agents name is Dave Butz. Also might have heard that he can play Guard and Tackle 2008 NFL Draft Scout, From Prep to Pro Coverage for Pros by Pros -- Powered by the Sports Xchange (Projected to Rd 4-5) Mike McGlynn - The ultimate swing lineman, can play C, G, and T. Durable as well and apparently plays with good technique. I would be very pleased if we got this guy. 2008 NFL Draft Scout, From Prep to Pro Coverage for Pros by Pros -- Powered by the Sports Xchange (Projected to Round 3-4) Chris McDuffie - G - Clemson - Big mauler that helped his RB's combine for 1,600+ yards 2008 NFL Draft Scout, From Prep to Pro Coverage for Pros by Pros -- Powered by the Sports Xchange (Projected Round (6) Eric Young - G - Tennesee - Highly regarded prospect that has been red flaged due to injuries. 2008 NFL Draft Scout, From Prep to Pro Coverage for Pros by Pros -- Powered by the Sports Xchange If we do go the WR, DE, CB route (in no particular order) with our first 3 picks then I say that we'll probably end up with one of the lineman that I have listed here. Probably with that alleged 3rd round comp pick. Of course I would love Brandon Albert, but for me thats a pipe dream. Anyway with the coaching of Joe Bugel and the handful of elite Guards that were picked late in the draft I would be more then willing to wait. Heres a list I've compiled of some of the top Guards in the league and where they were drafted (or Undrafted) Brian Waters - KC - Undrafted Kris Deilman - SD - Undrafted Steve Hutchinson - Min - 1st Round 17th pick Logan Mankins - NE - 1st Round 32nd Pick Shawn Andrews - Phi - 1st Round 16th Pick Alan Fanneca - NYJ - 1st Round 26th Pick Benji Olsen - Ten - 5th Round Will Shields - KC - 3rd Round Eric Steinbach - Cle - 2nd Round ~1st Pick Vince Manuwai - Jax - 3rd Round 8th Pick Leonard Davis - Dal - 1st Round 2nd Pick Stacy Andrews - Cin - 4th Round Pick 27 Randy Thomas - Was - 2nd Round 57th Overall Derrick Dockery - Buf - 3rd Round Pete Kendall - Was - 1st Round 21st Overall Brandon Moore - NYJ - Undrafted Mike Whale - Sea - 2nd Round Supplemental I'll add more when stupid ESPN lets me see the list :P Actually after looking at this list I'm convinced more now then ever that we should draft Albert in the 1st Round. However I have faith in Buge's ability to develop virtually any lineman with a shread of talent and potential. |
Re: Make Your Day Two Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 3-7)
Dave Butz is also Matt Jones' agent (he was at least, not sure if he still is). And the name isn't a coincidence he is 65's son.
