Re: Falcons Agree to Trade Hall to Raiders for '08 2nd Round Pick
We don't need to trade up to select a Cb, There will still be atleast 3 quality DBs available at the 21. Cromartie will be there at least till the second.
|
Re: Falcons Agree to Trade Hall to Raiders for '08 2nd Round Pick
There should still be a lot of good corners left when its our turn to pick at 21. I'm excited about the prosopect of landing a good corner in the first round.
Rogers cannot be factored into the competitive roster because of the severity of his injury. If he plays great, but we can't expect much out of him this coming year. |
Re: Falcons Agree to Trade Hall to Raiders for '08 2nd Round Pick
Talib, Cromartie, McKelvin or Jenkins I would gladly accept in the first round

i don't like talib, but i'd be happy with any of the other three. I still doubt ANY (except maybe talib) make it to #21 though. |
Re: Falcons Agree to Trade Hall to Raiders for '08 2nd Round Pick
I don't hate Talib (or Cason) the way others seem to, but looking at the big picture I think we're better off taking a CB in the 2nd/3rd round (Godfrey?/Thomas?) and worrying about other needs earlier.
Maybe something like Merling, Godfrey, Scheuning? Balmer, Rachal, Thomas? Hard to say really. It may be a little clearer if we sign Hackett. I just worry that taking a CB in the first round hurts our chances to get good talent in the mid rounds, whereas there is some pretty solid depth at CB in this draft that we can wait a couple of rounds and still get a good choice there. |
Re: Falcons Agree to Trade Hall to Raiders for '08 2nd Round Pick
porter may be up in the 2nd, godfrey might last till the 3rd... hard to say. also in the third jordy nelson or dexter jackson might still be there too (for the comp pick).
merling/harvey, t laws, godfrey, nelson would be a great haul (and we could grab zuttah and mcduffie at OL late, but obviously we can't hit on 5 positions with 4 picks). |

We don't need an uber talent at CB. This defense relies more on matchups and just about any team we play I think Springs can cover their 1. So we're looking for a guys who has decent raw coverage skills and a brain. That could be found in 2-3 rather than taking a marginally better player in round 1. |
Re: Falcons Agree to Trade Hall to Raiders for '08 2nd Round Pick
Do the falcons enjoy losing? First they lose their offense in Vick. Now goes their defense in Hall. 0-16!:D

PFT.com, Who knows.....the soap opera continues.
HALL TRADE FALLING APART? Posted by Michael David Smith on March 17, 2008, 7:17 p.m. There are conflicting reports about the trade to send Atlanta Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall to the Oakland Raiders. Over the weekend, the trade was widely reported to be all but signed, sealed and delivered. Today Steve Wyche of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the trade is nearly final. But Hall himself denied that the trade was close. And Adam Schefter reported today on NFL Network that the sides are not as optimistic that the deal will get done as they previously were. “It doesn’t look like, right now, this trade is going to come to be,” Schefter reported today. The Falcons and Raiders appear to have agreed in principle that the trade will consist of the Falcons sending second- and sixth-round picks to the Raiders, but the Raiders are only interested in consummating the trade if they’ve worked out a contract that will keep Hall happy, and right now no such contract is in place. If a contract agreement is reached, Hall will be a Raider. If not, this trade isn’t happening. |

Well seeing how we're doing the safety dance this year in FA, I highly doubt we'll get him then. |

The talent isnt much differen't in the first 3 rounds. S owe could potentially land 3-2nd round studs (1st rounders who fell). To me, our 21st pick isnt even worth their 2-2nd rounders, so Im just hoping this works out... If we play our cards right, we could end u with ALOT of studs if we land on a lot of our picks. Unless I had a top 8 pick, I would trade my first away EVERYTIME, for 2-2nd rounders. or a deal like that.... This is the way to build your team. |

No doubt,WOW is right. I guess you never know maybe even the Raiders can have a good team soon, who knows? They sure have a much improved roster. Certainly if this deal is sealed they will have a heck of a CB tandem. Source: After trade to Raiders, Hall to get seven-year, $70 million deal ESPN.com news services Updated: March 18, 2008, 8:40 PM ET Atlanta Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall says he will finalize a contract with Oakland by Thursday morning, allowing the trade sending him to the Raiders to be completed. Clayton: Silver & Gold Frustrated by his team's lack of success, Raiders owner Al Davis has spent a lot of money this offseason. And he's not done yet, writes John Clayton. Story A source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the deal is for seven years and worth $70 million. The amount of guaranteed money and bonuses in the contract have not been finalized. The source also told Mortensen the teams are discussing possibly more compensation than just a second-round pick for the Raiders to acquire Hall, a two-time All-Pro. If the deal goes through as planned, the Falcons will have three second-round draft picks and four of the first 48 selections under first-year general manager Thomas Dimitroff. Hall said he is scheduled to fly to Oakland on Wednesday to meet with Raiders officials, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "There is just some tweaking of the language that needs to be done, some minor details," Hall told the newspaper. "No deal breakers." Hall, a former first-rounder taken with the eighth pick in the 2004 draft, would be paired with Nnamdi Asomugha, giving Oakland one of the top cornerback tandems in the game. The move would also provide insurance if Asomugha were to leave as a free agent following next season. The Raiders placed the exclusive franchise tag on Asomugha, guaranteeing him at least $9.465 million in 2008. They still would like to sign him to a long-term deal. If the deal goes through, the Raiders would have only one draft pick in the first three rounds. Oakland picks fourth in the opening round and traded its third-round pick last year to New England for a pick used to draft offensive lineman Mario Henderson. The Raiders have been very active during the free-agency season after winning just four games last season and a league-low 19 the previous five years. Oakland has signed defensive tackles Tommy Kelly and William Joseph, receivers Javon Walker and Drew Carter, safety Gibril Wilson, offensive linemen Kwame Harris and Cornell Green to deals that could be worth more than $160 million. The Raiders also re-signed running back Justin Fargas to a $12 million, three-year contract that guarantees him $6 million. |

More so the last 6-7 years give or take? Besides this year, which year (this year is still in question) didn't we overpay for someone over the hill? No sarcasm intended. Why don't you give some examples from the past few years of us overpaying for someone over 30 years old? Because (granted this is off the top of my head) as best as I can recall Griffin, Springs, Washington, Moss, Portis, Smoot, Lloyd, Randle El, Rabach, Archuleta, Duckett were all under 30 (some close to, but still under) when we signed or traded for them. True some didn't work out, but they weren't "over the hill" So that leaves who? London Fletcher-well worth the money, Todd Collins-didn't overpay and he certainly stepped up last year. Todd Wade-didn't overpay. Pete Kendall-I guess we could go either way on that one. Mark Brunell-I don't want to get into another debate over him. So it seems to me, unless I'm really missing a lot, that the notion that we've spent the last several years overpaying for over the hill players is a bit overblown. |
